Chapter 206: Arriving In Sparta

The march from the shore wasn’t exactly short it took them a few days to not only pass from the oceanside village but all the way to the capital of Sparta.

Once they arrived, the legion accompanying them began to setup residence outside the city while Julius and the commanders accompanied Vasso and his troop into the city.

The entire contingent had provided escort just in case, and the oceanside village effectively was surrendered should it turn out that the newly arrived Romanus soldiers had not come in peace, well not exactly peace but rather than with hostility against Sparta herself.

This would be the worst time for a third-party to enter the war and steal their territory while the army was away defending their honor, and nation against the republicans who rose up and cast aside the kings who led their nations to prosperity after the fall of the Grand Empire.

In the entire Greecian peninsula, only Sparta remained as a Monarchy after the two other than the Atheanians converted to be republics after civil uprising tore down the monarchy and the nobility were publically hunted and executed by the masses.

This of course was incited by The Greecian republic weakening their neighbors and allowing them to plan their own men within the newly formed senates prepping the nations to peacefully integrate into themselves.

Julius having known the lore knew that Argos, Macedon and Arcadia may have been monarchary’s with aristocrasty but they were pretty moderate in the grand scheme, honestly the corruption and misuse of commoners was far grander within the Greecian Rupublic, but the greed of the president was vast to the point that most of his cabinet was his own family members basically making himself king, while lusting after the other territories but fearing the peoples opinions should they go to war, so the long plan of Pericles was to incite rebellions in all the Greecian kingdoms and bring about a complete revolution however Sparta alone stood strong backing their monarchy.

While the others collapsed, tensions against Sparta grew while their military prowess was world renowned their military was not intrigued by the expansion of their territory but rather to further enhance their prowess alone.

Entering the city of Sparta Julius and his retinue looked around comparing this foreign capital to their own Eternal city, the city was a pale comparison with The Eternal city however from another perspective it was a prime example of a military specific city, as there was not really much of an entertainment aspect as there were just dozens of training grounds, barracks, forges and leatherworking stations.

The entire cities focus was geared towards combat, just what do these people do when their not at war considering their outlook isn’t exactly bloodthirsty.

The procession of Julius and his Praetorian guards along with Yuri entered the city after being escorted by Vasso and his men.

As they approached the center of the city they could see the palace, it’s shape was irregular compared to typical monarch palaces as this one was shaped like a U as the Spartan’s operate with with a Dual Kingship from separate bloodlines so that neither king could every attain to much power as to think himself greater than the gods by making it so that power could never become to centralized, unlike Julius who was doing the exact opposite with his own nation.

After leaving most of the Praetorians behind with only his most elite entering the building along side him while the majority of Vasso’s men likewise remained outside.

After be led inside same as with the city rather than painting, sculptures or other artwork various weapons, and past armours worn by the kings and heroes of sparta extoling the peoples excellence as warriors.

"Welcome friends from across the sea." <King Cilix>

"Thank you for the warm reception King Cilix, I am the Grand Duke of Romanus Julius Aquitania we are very pleased to see our entrant into this war is not opposed." <Julius>

"Anyone looking to wet the ground with the blood of those bastards is fine by me!" <King Cilix>

"Well we’re certainly looking forward to the fights ahead! And since we’re on the subject how is the war faring? You lot haven’t already sent the alliance packing have you?" <Julius>

"No no, no sorry to let you down Young Julius but Leonidas is still leading our forces at the front against the cur’s who’ve invaded into our lands." <King Cilix>

So the king knows enough to save face and not expose their in a tough spot at least.

"That certainly is good new, though I guess as our respective nations leaders we should discuss the terms for their eventual surrender?" <Julius>

"The expelling of their armies from our lands and a 20 year peace agreement seem’s about right on top of the freeing of any slaves they’ve taken as war prisoner followed by the keeping of any we take ourselves seems about right." <King Cilix>

"That seems fair, but is expelling the Greecians going to be enough? They might come back again and break their word like they broke the long peace without warning?" <Julius>

"Hmm, you might be right however we do not aspire to expand our own nation." <King Cilix>

"Worry not your majesty, your men can expel the varmants and my men will rout them from the holes they crawl back inside of!" <Julius>

Yuri off to the side was busy talking with the Spartan noble women, all of whom were complimenting her as her streak against the men was already widely talked about as was her presumed position as Julius’s wife and future queen.

After reaching a verbal agreement and then doing up a quick and simple written agreement that any slaves taken by either side in the war belongs to that side, whereas any Spartan slaves recovered from the Greecian alliance will be freed and returned to Sparta, the treasure if any will be split equally from any battles within Spartan territory meanwhile anything from outside their borders will exclusively belong to the Grand Duchy and it’s armies.

With the agreement sealed Julius had King Cilix’s blessing and a written order of writ informing King Leonidas of their presence as a reinforcing army rather than turning the battlefield into a three way battle royale.
