Chapter 201: Unresolved Royals

The greatest boon to Julius was the bonus points gain from the fall of both the Queen of Lunan, and the King of Roserun.

Since both wars officially were recognized to have ended at the same time his total points increased massively compared to his first few dozen level ups.

Having not decided what to spend these points on at this point aside from upgrading his Unit Inspection.

This was a reward given beyond just the overall war for the complete fall of the enemy nation.

If only he’d declared independence at the time of the war with Bridget he’d have been able to obtain massive rewards when the King there was slain resulting in a far easier time against the Visigoth invasion of Aquitania.

But present circumstances being what they are Julius could not complain.

"Your Majesty, the war has been confirmed to have ended in failure..." <Noble>

The castle of Roserun was in shambles.

Having lost the majority of commoners in the capital, and then the majority of their nobility as well the city as a whole was basically a ghost town, and when the commoners left so to did most of the palace servants.

As a result while the remaining nobles and the Boy king awaited the armies victorious return dust and filth began to build up in the castle.

However as the days continued to pass, and scouts were sent out to discover what was holding the army up, these men likewise went missing having been captured and following their soldier comrades were also pressed into slavery, as was the custom against warring nations.

As the days turned to weeks, Messages were sent out to all the cities and towns of Roserun calling once again for the conscription of all able bodied men to serve the Royal call.

This message was mostly refused as they needed their men for the local harvests.

"So it’s over... We have lost?" <King Roserun>

"That seems to be the case your Majesty, an Envoy from the Duchy of Latinium or rather they seem to be going by Romanus now is here to see you." <Noble>

"That so... well send them in." <King Roserun>

After a few moments a man with noble bearing was lead from the antechamber side room and into the Kings grand hall where the King was seated bereft of other nobles and a paltry royal guard force who looked more like bandits than royal guards.

"Good Afternoon King Roserun, I am a Peace Envoy of the Grand Duchy of Romanus, my name is Anil Viktor it is a pleasure to meet you." <Anil>

This man before the king did not bow down, he did not even kneel.

Though the king felt slight without an army behind him against the might of Latinium or Romanus was a futile act for if they killed this envoy for impudence their entire nation would likely be raised to the ground.

"We are happy to receive an Envoy and bring hostilities between our two great nations to an end." <King Roserun>

The king needing to end this war for his own sake, adopted a calm demeanor to please the Envoy.

"These are the terms as dictated by the Grand Duke to bring hostilities between our peoples to an end." <Anil>

Handing the scroll bearing Julius’s royal seal over to the noble who in turn handed it over to the king.

The seal having been broken the king proceeded to read over the document, and while his face turned into a grimace at it’s terms, but ultimately after tapping his temple a few times rereading the document, before letting loose a long sigh and finally agreeing to the terms laid out within.

His continued ruling of Roserun would be ensured, however lands in the north and east would be ceded to Romanus, the east mattered little as these lands were practically barren following Bridgets invasion but the north would mean that the capital was less than a day away from the border now.

Open trade was allowed, and a 10 year peace treaty meaning neither side could engage in hostile action.

As a result of his signing the war was over and Roserun continued to exist however with the loss of the north and their army, Roserun much like their capital as a mere husk of it’s former self, a vassal of the Romanus Duchy in all but name.

- - Romanus POV - -

Over the months of peace that reigned within the Duchy Julius received a series of reports from the Port City of Intin at first the reports were as he’d expected.

Resistance was still strong and the Queen Hayna of South Lunan still refused to surrender, however most if not all her retainers were ready to accept terms.

The estate housing the queen was beyond deplorable and requests to finally end the punishment and clean up the mess was being made by the people and guards.

Julius relented and agreed to bring the estate back to it’s original state removing the waste and rubbish that had been building up.

While at the same time Julius had decided that the retainers had suffered long enough, anymore and the Queen’s life would be in danger as they offered up her head in surrender.

Julius himself was more than surprised this had not yet occurred and could only assume that her Royal guards were immensely loyal to their queen for some reason preventing the other servants and nobles from doing anything to her.

A few weeks later another report arrived announcing the surrender of all the holed up Lunanese Nobles Soldiers and Servants save for the Queen herself.

Even the royal guards surrendered after a promise not to harm her majesty was given.

This shocked Julius as the Royal guards gave up on their queen but only on the agreement she not be harmed...

The queen herself still refused to leave the estate, and according to the report did not seem to notice the change in soldiers and staff around the mansion.

Her sanity really had split from reality hadn’t it?

Another week passed before he received a followup report and this one shocked him.

This report was requesting that a regular rotation of posting be made for the Queen of Lunan’s protection.

This at first confused Julius however after reading further the reason why was confirmed.

It seems the long standing question of why her royal guards were so fiercly loyal to her was answered.

The queen had offered herself up to the comment men of the soldiery as an outlet for stress relief in order to ensure her own safety.

The queen’s sanity being split this was the only thing she could do to ensure her own survival and being killed or handed over to her greatest enemy by her own men.

Even after those men had changed.

The rumours had spread through the local legion and within the span of a month the estate itself was not a noble location any longer but instead a high class brothel where the legionaires could take turns laying with the Queen who welcomed them, while other whores were employed to fill the other rooms and travel the halls dressed as maid staff.

This was a ruse put in place to reinforce the queens perceived reality in that her maid staff had followed in the decision of their queen to likewise gain the soldiers and retainers support.

Months later

The Lunan Queens brothel was immensely popular the Queen herself had seemingly adopted her new way of life, taking on a number of suitors daily all with a smile on her face believing her actions were ensuring her safety until her armies had finished of the upstart Julius and his forces in the north to return and free her city and herself from the Latinium occupiers.

This single tenuous strand of hope was all the tethered her to the world, if this was split she’d likely go completely insane but until then she’d remain as the best hooker in all of Intin.

Julius meanwhile had received another report updating him on the cities goings on, and likewise to give him an update on the status of the Queen, the loyalty of the army and any possibly uprisings being planned or plotted to return her to her ruling status.

In this latest report it was indicated that the queen had become pregnant, and upon learning this she’d been speaking with the other staff about what to do with the baby.

The other whores had informed the Queen that the baby could be secretly take out of the mansion and the baby placed in the care of a kingdom noble until their coming of age.

This of course was following the population boom policy but to Hayna she took it as a means to continue on her Royal bloodline preventing Julius from getting his hands on her weakness aka her children, and ensuring even if she fell by the tyrants blade her bloodline could live on.

The Whore Queen of Lunan secretly was born however her own citizens had taken up positions in the military to get the chance at having a go at their former queen.
