Chapter 147: The Last Gasp (1)

Having returned to her senses Serena pleaded to and finally got Julius to allow her to walk on her own two feet since, she’d realized the party was on their way to the throne room where all the survivors of their invasion had been gathered.

The joy she felt at being carried like a princess by a conquering hero was finally overtaken by the shame she’d feel being seen in that compromised position by all the people who once looked to her with reverence as their queen.

The party entered the throne room, the slaves that Zeff controlled had taken up a perimeter position while all the palace survivors were sorted into neat rows where they kneeled in a sieza before the throne.

Following the present act when they entered, Serena took up her position on the throne while the others took up position on her sides.

"Thank you everyone for coming here tonight, as many of you already know the city has fallen back into the hands of the Kingdom and it’s citizens." <Queen Serena>

As her words echoed throughout the silent room the palace staff looked with eyes that were shining while a minority of those in attendance scowled while look at the floor.

The minority of course was quickly checked over by Julius and his Unit appraisal skill.

Heh, well some nobles were captured as they were, while others took the time to don servent uniforms to hide amonst the crowd.

"With the cities return to Royal control, those who are responsible for plotting and executing this coup shall have justice delivered upon them for the crimes they have committed against the Kingdom and it’s citizens" <Queen Serena>

Roughly half the mercenaries in the room moved at this say so, grabbing up people that Julius had marked as being nobles in hiding while the other nobility were rounded up as they were.

The rest of the palace staff were shocked as close to a third of their number had just been seized and now were being bound in Ropes, and irons.

"These men and women you see before you are guilty of high treason, for the crimes of conspiring and eventual slaughter of their King, the crime of selling out their own country to it’s neighbors, and last for the wholesale slaughter of it’s own people while enslaving the rest." <Queen Serena>

The remaining staff had since turned their looks to be fierce as each crime was listed out, many knew the cities surviving nobles had been responsible for the rebellion, but did not know beyond that and became outraged at just how far they had gone.

This of course was unverified as Julius had asked Serena to state these particular crimes even though they had no evidence, but to get any would take weeks and by then it would not matter.

"Take these traitors to the dungeon, they shall be dealt with properly in the morning" <Queen Serena>

The last of the rebel forces in the palace were taken way by the escorting guards some nobles plead for appeasement while being dragged out of the room, others silently accepting their fate.

Serena meanwhile maintained a cold stone face as she watched their exit.

"As for the rest of you, i thank you for your Loyalty to Carthage in these trying times, know that no harm shall come to you if you so choose to remain within these palace walls, while the same cannot be said if you choose to leave, as a melee still rages within the cities streets between those serving the rebels, those who are here to liberate you, and lastly those sordid scum who are taking advantage of our situation to merely cause further chaos." <Queen Serena>

Having said her piece the Queen stood up before walking off with Miri, and Zeff along with a small detachment of the slaves following along, Julius meanwhile remained behind with some of the men to watch the aftermath.

How would the palace staff respond?

The minute the queen was gone the room erupted into discussion, the would be mercenaries were hounded with unless questions, many of these were directed towards Julius himself as he was seen standing next to her majesty.

The question first came asking about the state of the country, the city and what happened to the king himself.

Then they shifted towards the mercenaries as to who they were, lastly Julius and his company and their relations to the Queen, lastly were by the maid who had been trained with a keen eye who hounded him on his personal relationship with the queen as apparently she kept glancing over to him while she was in the room.

Having sated their curiosity with the answers that could be provided the biggest bombshell of all was when Julius revealed he under his guise of Haddin was the Aquitanian Envoy, while the mercenaries were proclaimed to be Carthaginian mercenaries not slave under their employ.

The maids, butlers, and the rest then were allowed to go out of the throne room back to their own rooms or jobs, with only select sections being made off limits mostly for the protection of her majesty, some of the Slaves took up posts as senties along the entrace to the palace keeping the rioting masses out, and informing any who came in relative peace that the Queen would be making an announcement in the morning.

And so the long night passed, those within the palace save for the dungeon had a rather enjoyable night in peace while the city below continued to convulse with violence till it’s populace was spent, while rumours about the Queen delivering justice against the rebels circulated.
