Chapter 96: First Mystic Weapon. (Double Happiness)
Elder Luo Zhen was covered in a bead of sweat, his firm muscles held the hammer and struck the broadsword on the anvil.
Since Mo Jian and the others had decided to help him in the creation of the powerful weapon.
He couldn’t help but be excited and quickly rushed to the refining room.
After a couple of minutes, he had forged the broadsword, leaving the last part. The Runes.
Coming out of the forging room, Mo Jian and the others looked at the newly forged sword in a daze.
This was the first time they had seen Elder Luo Zhen work personally on refining a weapon.
Even though they were not taking the path of weaponsmith, they learned a lot just from staring at him working.
Most especially, Wei Jian, who had the talent of metallurgy.
"What do you think?" Elder Luo asked with pride.
"Impressive!" Mo Jian responded with a light smile. "Now, let’s make this the greatest weapon."
Elder Luo Zhen’s smile deepened as he placed the sword on the runic table.
The corrected runes had already been drawn on paper. He just needed to follow it.
Quickly, he took his runic pen and began to inscribe on the sword. The process was slow and boring, but to those in the room, it was like they were looking at a work of art.
After two hours of meticulously inscribing the runes on the sword, it was finally completed.
’Huh!’
Elder Luo Zhen wiped the beads of sweat from his forehead, but his eyes never left the sword.
It was like the sword was a newborn baby.
"Now for the final part." Mo Jian’s eyes were filled with anticipation.
Not only him, everyone’s eyes were burning with anticipation.
This was the first weapon that would be using sloth. A novel idea that had never appeared before in this world.
Elder Luo Zhen nodded, his hands trembled from nervousness and anticipation.
He had failed at this junction many times, but now, all his effort and hope were placed on this.
He took out the light stone from his spatial pouch and placed it gently in the small hole created before the sword hilt.
With the light stone in the hole, what was left was the final rune.
The major rune that would connect all the various runes on the sword with the light stone.
"Elder Luo, would you like me to do it?" Mo Jian asked, looking at the trembling elder.
"No. Young Master, I must do it to overcome the obstacle in my heart." His voice was firm with determination.
Taking a deep breath, he held the runic pen firmly and began to inscribe the last rune.
The rune took Elder Luo one good hour to complete. Everyone in the room did not dare breathe loudly in fear of breaking his concentration.
Even though the process was slow, they knew this was the process.
Inscribing a rune on a stone was delicate, any slight deviation and increase in pressure would shatter the stone or, in the worst case – cause an explosion.
Therefore, it must be done carefully.
When the last rune line was connected together, a light humming sound came from the sword, and it vibrated.
The shiny light stone dimmed immediately as if it were an ordinary stone.
Watching this, everyone was filled with confusion.
"Is it successful?" Wei Jian asked, looking at Mo Jian.
Even Elder Luo Zhen was not sure whether it was successful or not.
"I guess we have to find out," Mo Jian said calmly and took the sword.
Holding the sword, it was light as a feather. Unlike the first sword forged by Elder Luo that was filled with extreme sharpness.
This just looked like any other sword.
"Young Master... be careful." Elder Luo Zhen warned from behind.
"I know..."
Mo Jian raised the sword above his head and swung it downward without any fanfare.
Whoosh!
Everyone held their breath, their eyes focused on the sword while Elder Luo could not hide his nervousness.
Since the success of disciples that created various artifacts that
shocked everyone, he and Elder Bai had been under a lot of pressure.
And now, if this sword were to be a failure, perhaps his heart for refining might be lost forever.
Thus, he was betting everything on the sword.
The sword cut through the air at a dazzling speed filled with sharpness, but nothing happened.
Except for the swiftness and sharpness, there was nothing spectacular about the sword.
Hmm?
Everyone widened their eyes in confusion. This was not what they expected.
What happened?
They expected a devastating attack and yet...
Elder Luo Zhen looked at the sword as if he had lost his soul.
The burning passion in his eyes died off and he seemed to have aged a couple of decades.
"Young Master, what happened?" Xiu Xu asked.
"I don’t know..." Mo Jian replied.
"Perhaps, there was an error in the runes?" Yan Li asked from the side.
They were all worried about Elder Luo Zhen.
"I guess it’s impossible after all..." Elder Luo Zhen said in a low voice.
"I’ve told you nothing is impossible. It is either you don’t know how or your way of doing it is wrong." Mo Jian responded sharply.
"You can’t just give up because this does not work. We should try to find out the cause of the problem."
"The Young Master is right. It is possible we just need to look for the error in the runes. I suggest we redo the calculation." Young Li suggested.
"Let me think for a moment!" Mo Jian said, creasing his brow.
As for Elder Luo, he had lost hope and his mind was filled with so much self-doubt.
As an elder, how could he not accomplish what many inner disciples did?
With experience and knowledge on their side, failure meant they were much worse than the disciples.
Mo Jian did not know what was going on in the elder’s mind, but his own was filled with many theories why the weapon did not work.
Suddenly, he opened his eyes and swung the sword, channeling a portion of his spiritual energy into the sword.
’Humm!’
The moment his spiritual energy entered the sword, the dimmed light shone brightly.
A horrifying sharpness filled the room, Yan Li and the others all had their hair stand on end. Their faces were covered in dread.
A blinding sword light erupted from the sword and cut through the thick refining hall as if it were a piece of paper.
Boom!
The refining hall shook vehemently to the core, and everyone inside the hall was terrified.
Apart from that, everyone inside the sect heard of the terrifying attack.
What happened to the refining hall?
All the disciples rushed to the refining hall to find out what was going on.
As for the elders, they were curious but did not appear as they all sent disciples to check out what was happening.
Standing at the highest peak, the Sect Master looked in the direction of the refining hall and creased his brow.
His senses caught a horrifying light that was filled with deadly sharpness.
’Has Elder Luo succeeded in weapon refinement?’ he thought, and a look of anticipation appeared on his face.
With such weapons, their sect’s power would reach another level.
Meanwhile, inside the refining room, everyone looked at Mo Jian in shock. Their gaze shifted from his face to the sword in his hand.
The sword had returned back to its usual plain appearance.
"Y-Young Master..." Yan Li called with a trembling voice.
A bright smile appeared on Mo Jian’s face. Before he could speak, Elder Luo Zhen rushed toward him, his eyes filled with joy.
"You did it." Mo Jian said excitedly.
He was genuinely happy for Elder Luo. Working so hard and only failing at the last minute was not a good experience.
Elder Luo Zhen’s eyes were filled with tears. For a moment, he did not know how to react.
After a few seconds, he murmured, "I did it!"
Hahahaha!
"I did it!!" he shouted excitedly.
Everyone wore bright smiles as they looked at the elder acting like a kid who just got his first toy.
His face had regained its vigor and all the self-doubt had vanished into thin air.
"Let me try it!" he grinned happily.
Just as he raised the sword, Mo Jian said quickly,
"Elder Luo, you need to channel a portion of your spiritual energy into the sword."
"Ah! So that’s it!" he exclaimed with a look of realization.
It was not that his weapon was not successful, but Mo Jian’s first attempt did not activate the sword.
Whoosh!
Sending a portion of energy into the sword, the horrifying brightness mixed with skin-prickling sharpness appeared.
Boom!
This time around, the refining hall was almost split into two.
Compared to Mo Jian’s attack, this was on another level. Now, everyone in the sect saw the sharp bright light in the sky.
With such an attack, how could the Sect Master and the elders remain calm?
Quickly, they all rushed to the refining hall.
Before they arrived, Elder Bai came from the room. His breakthrough to the Golden Core realm was successful, and the aura around him was different.
"Elder Luo, congratulations!" he said as he entered the room.
"Hahaha. Thank you," Elder Luo laughed. "I can also say that back to you."
"Hahaha. Agreed. We both achieved our goal."
He did not only achieve his goal, he comprehended the mysteries of gravity.
Even though it was just the surface, it was enough to bring his mastery in gravity to another level.
Just as he prepared to talk to Mo Jian, the Sect Master arrived.
"Elder Luo, did you succeed?"
"Haha. Yes, Sect Master. I did it."
"Good. Good. Congratulations." A bright smile appeared on the Sect Master’s face.
Just then, his eyes caught Elder Bai and he widened his eyes in disbelief.
’How could this be?!’
