Chapter 31: Taking the Western Region By Storm - Part 1

Under the veil of darkness, five men moved quietly through the forest.

Clad in gleaming metal armor, they held long swords, their breath barely visible in the cold air, their eyes determined and focused.

"Captain..." one of the men called in a trembling voice.

"Quiet," the Captain said sternly. "I know what you’re thinking, but you must trust me."

When his men heard this, they sucked in a cold breath and sighed. They were ordinary mercenaries who hunted beasts for a living.

However, they had been recruited by the Dust Valley Sect’s young master to kill a vengeful wisp and possibly a Restless Phantom.

Originally, they had wanted to refuse such a dangerous mission, but when they heard the reward, they were forced to change their minds.

Suddenly, the temperature dropped drastically, and all the men shivered, their breaths forming misty clouds in the air.

In the eerie silence, the vibrant, haunting glow of dozens of vengeful wisps emerged, illuminating the once-darkened path as they flew swiftly toward the group.

Fear and tension gripped their hearts like a vice, adrenaline surging through their veins.

"Formation!" the Captain shouted, his voice steady yet urgent.

He tightened his grip on the hilt of his sword, feeling the weight and strength of the steel.

I hope what the young master said about the sword and armor is true, he prayed silently in his heart.

"Attack!"

Bang! Bang!

The Captain rushed forward, swinging his sword in an arc with precision and force.

Under the veil of darkness, the sword shimmered with a radiant golden glow upon contact with the vengeful wisp.

Screech!

The air filled with the wisp’s ear-piercing scream, as if it had met its nemesis.

Instantly, the sinister wisp evaporated into nothingness.

"What!"

The Captain and his men widened their eyes in disbelief, a mixture of astonishment and relief washing over them.

"T-This... What just..." one of the men stammered, still processing the surreal event.

"The young master did not lie to us," the Captain stated with newfound conviction, filling his lungs with a deep breath.

His eyes sparkled with joy and confidence.

As if rejuvenated, the men nodded in agreement, their gazes now sharp and resolute.

Now, the vengeful wisps were not as terrifying as before.

"Die!"

Bang! Bang!

The men lunged at the wisps, striking them down in single blows.

Against their attacks, the vengeful apparitions were like fish on a chopping block.

Meanwhile, in the newly constructed coliseum, Mo Jian paced back and forth, waiting for the mercenaries’ return.

"Young master, please come and rest. We will wait for the mercenaries," one of the servants said respectfully.

"Don’t worry. I’ll be alright," Mo Jian responded.

Looking at their young master, all the servants wore worried expressions. If anything were to happen to him, they wouldn’t survive.

Apart from them, the blacksmiths were also anxious. They hoped there wouldn’t be any issues with the weapons and armor.

Under the tense atmosphere, everyone held their breath as they waited for the mercenaries to return.

Two hours later.

They heard a series of hurried footsteps approaching. Mo Jian turned toward the entrance with anticipation.

As long as there are no problems with the armor and weapons, the Ember Flame should vanquish the vengeful spirits with ease.

Creak!

The door was pushed open, and the mercenaries entered with bright smiles.

"How was it?" Mo Jian asked impatiently.

"Young Master, it was a success," the Captain responded with a deep grin.

He didn’t know what the young master had done to make the swords and armor so powerful against the vengeful spirits,

but this was the first time he had seen those damned apparitions fall so easily.

"Good. Good. Did you manage to kill any Restless Phantoms?" Mo Jian asked casually, not expecting a positive response.

"Yes. We killed three."

"What!"

Everyone widened their eyes in disbelief. Compared to a Restless Phantom, a vengeful wisp was nothing.

Yet, the weapons had worked against them too.

"Hahaha!" Mo Jian burst into laughter.

His plan had worked.

Seeing their young master laughing, everyone else broke into bright smiles. They knew their mission had been a success.

After a few seconds, Mo Jian composed himself and looked at his people.

"Well done, everyone. I’ll increase your pay," he announced.

"Thank you, Young Master!" they shouted in unison.

He turned to the blacksmiths and said, "You know what to do."

"Yes! Leave it to us," they replied confidently.

With a nod, Mo Jian left the underground chamber, a light smile hanging at the corner of his lips.

He took out his Spirit Link and sent a message to Zhao Tian.

"Success. Start the last phase."

---

Two days later.

The massive coliseum had been completed, and all eyes were on Mo Jian, the founder of the grand structure.

Many had speculated why he had built such a colossal building in the middle of a battlefield, but he had remained silent.

Now that construction was complete, everyone was waiting for his announcement.

Inside Elder Duan’s office, Mo Jian looked at her with a smile.

"Elder Duan, I want to make an announcement. Can you help me gather everyone?"

"What for?" she asked.

"That’s a secret. But I promise it’s something you wouldn’t want to miss."

Just then, Jian Ru rushed into the office and shouted,

"Master! The Radiant Sect has come to cause trouble again!"

"What! How dare they?" Elder Duan roared, rushing out of her office.

---

At the center of the open field, a group of Radiant Sect disciples stood with disdain and hostility toward the Dust Valley Sect.

"We’ve come to challenge the Dust Valley Sect. Who will be our first opponent?" Wan Ming declared arrogantly.

"What are you doing here?" Elder Duan’s cold voice rang out as she approached.

"We came to challenge you. Rumors are spreading that the Dust Valley Sect is neglecting its duty to defend the border,

which is putting the entire Western Region at risk," Wan Ming sneered.

"Through this battle, we will determine whether you are truly protecting the border or not."

"Who are you to judge whether we are protecting the border? Go back to your region immediately. We’ve had enough of your nonsense," Elder Duan said sharply.

Instantly, a thick tension filled the air. Everyone held their breath.

"A-Are you..."

"Say one more word, and I will kill you," Elder Duan threatened, her aura leaking out.

The Radiant Sect disciples seethed with fury, while the three elders among them glared at Elder Duan.

However, they did not press further. Their true mission was to spy on the Dust Valley Sect, and it was now complete.

"This isn’t over..." they muttered, preparing to leave.

"Wait!"

Hmm?

Everyone turned toward the voice.

Right behind Elder Duan, Mo Jian stepped forward.

What is he trying to do?

Is he going to cause more problems for us?

The disciples exchanged uneasy looks. But Mo Jian ignored them.

He looked at the gathered crowd and spoke in a calm, steady voice.

"Tomorrow, the Blood Fury Arena will open, I welcome everyone" he announced slowly.

"In the Blood Fury Arena, we have exclusive weapons capable of killing vengeful spirits with ease."

"These weapons are the bane of vengeful spirits."

"This opportunity is not limited to cultivators alone. Anyone can participate. Anyone can wield our weapons."

As Mo Jian made his announcement at the border, the Thousand Wealth Chamber was spreading the same news throughout the Western Region.

Slowly, the news took the entire Western Region by storm.
