Chapter 163: Completion of the Interregional Underground Tunnel.
"Do you hear?"
"Hear what?"
Inside a restaurant, a group of young friends sat around the table discussing.
"I heard the Thousand Wealth Chamber will unveil their new project in three days," a girl said in a low voice.
"Really?!" a boy asked with wide eyes.
"Yes. I heard all the top clans and powerful forces have already received the invitation."
For a moment, the group were trying to process the shocking news. The Thousand Wealth Chamber’s massive project had shaken the entire capital and the surrounding cities.
Many even came from other cities just to see the massive construction. With the completion of the project, many had been speculating how long it would take the Chamber to unveil the project.
But they were wrong. The Thousand Wealth Chamber would not delay the opening of the project to half a year or to a year.
They were going to unveil it in three days.
"Do you really believe we can have water in the city without using wells?" a girl asked in a low voice.
A boy with a handsome face responded, "We’ve all learned the Thousand Wealth Chamber is unlike any other force in the region... even beyond. We should not speculate and bring their wrath on us. Let’s wait for them to unveil it."
The group nodded. The capital might have seemed to have moved on from the war that happened a few weeks ago, but deep in everyone’s heart, they all remembered vividly.
Every time they left their clan, their father or mother would warn them not to go against the Thousand Wealth Chamber.
From this, they knew how horrifying and scared the clans in the capital were of the Thousand Wealth Chamber.
"Let’s not talk about the Thousand Wealth Chamber," a boy chimed in. "I’ve been employed by the Broken Moon Consortium as a journalist."
"Ah! So you also applied for work in the Broken Moon Consortium. I thought it was only me. I was employed as an editor," the second girl in the group responded with a light smile on her face.
Looking at the two, their three other friends were stunned. "When you said you’re going to apply for a job, I thought you were joking."
The handsome boy said with deep confusion on his face. Their group came from three clans in alliance.
To foster the clan’s alliance, they encouraged the younger generation to be friends with each other.
These five had been friends for over five months and they all did everything together.
When they heard the two were going to apply for work in the Broken Moon Consortium, they had made fun of them.
But who would have thought they would go ahead and apply. Worst of all, they were employed.
"Since you said you’re not interested, we thought this new work was something we’d never heard of before and we applied," the girl replied with a shrug.
The three who did not apply wore a slight frown on their faces but had nothing to say.
"Are they still accepting people?" another boy asked in a slightly loud voice.
"No. They are no longer recruiting people. The recruitment was stopped four days ago," the boy who was employed as a journalist responded.
Instantly, the group descended into silence. Their previous smiles had vanished. The three that did not apply for the job were looking at the two hatefully.
Meanwhile, inside the Thousand Wealth Chamber, Mo Jian was inspecting the newly arrived product.
He picked the first item. It was curved, painted in silver, gleaming under the bright sunlight. It was a faucet.
After checking the faucet, he moved to a bigger item painted white. It was a bath tub. Unlike the Earth bathtub, this had two runes inscribed inside it.
Dirt Removing Rune and Solid Grip Rune.
The Dirt Removing Rune made sure the bathtub was always spotless while the Solid Grip Rune ensured the user would not slip when stepping inside the tub.
He checked the washing basin, the closet, showers, and taps. Each of them was perfectly made, mixed with runes for additional comfort.
"Is this all?" he turned and looked at Miss Yang.
"Yes, Young Master. Merchant Tao said we will receive another shipment tomorrow," Miss Yang replied quickly.
"Good." He nodded and left the warehouse.
Back in his room, he went to his research study. While Elder Bai was working on the Mystic Water Pumping and Mystic Paper Printer—
He was working on two other projects. First, was the Mystic Typewriter, and the second was the Mystic Train Engine.
He had almost completed the engine for the Mystic Train. Thus, he was not in a rush to complete it.
The Mystic Typewriter was at the last stage, which was for the keyboard to work in sync with the paper movement. Apart from the paper and ink needed, there was another important component.
The Mystic Card.
The Mystic Card, the brain box of the Mystic Typewriter.
Resuming his work, he was drawn into inscribing runes and calibrating the keystroke brush to work perfectly.
After two hours, he wiped off the bead of sweat from his forehead. "Finally," he mused, as a light smile crept up his face.
He had assembled every part of the Mystic Typewriter and it was looking sleek on the workbench.
"Now, let’s test it."
Unlike Earth typewriters, where only a single paper could be placed in the ink roller rod—with the power of runes and spirit stones, Mo Jian upgraded the typewriter, which allowed multiple sheets to be placed in the paper tray.
Automatically, the typewriter would pick each sheet, allowing the user to work seamlessly without worrying about paper jams.
Apart from that, the Mystic Card served as memory.
Mo Jian created this for easier printing of the news. As long as the news was typed, it would be saved on the card, which could be read by the massive printer.
He took the already prepared paper sheets and put them inside the paper tray, which was beneath the Mystic Typewriter.
With the paper in place, he switched it on. A light hum came from the Mystic Typewriter and it automatically picked a sheet—it appeared in the printing rod space.
Tatatataa!
Quickly, his hands danced on the keyboard and the characters appeared on the paper while moving up beautifully.
"Good. Good." A bright smile appeared on his face.
With this, he solved one of the major problems for the printing press. What was left was to send the details of the Mystic Typewriter to the Western Region and it would be manufactured.
Suddenly, his Spirit Link vibrated. He picked his Spirit Link and checked the notification. The message was from Elder Xu Bin.
Without hesitating, he left his research study. Outside his office, Elder Xu Bin was already waiting.
"Is it true?" Mo Jian asked the moment he came out of his room.
"Yes, Young Master," Elder Xu Bin responded.
"That’s good to hear. You and the Old Withered Man did not disappoint me," he said, his face full of bright smiles.
"Lead the way. I can’t wait to see it."
"Yes, Young Master."
Quickly, they went to the back of the Chamber, where only a few were allowed to visit. They entered an ordinary-looking building.
Inside the building were powerful Peak Core Refining Warriors guarding everywhere. At the center of the building was a massive tunnel that led deep into the ground.
In a few minutes, they arrived at the depth. It was a long, large tunnel. A carriage was already waiting for them.
Quickly, they entered the carriage and it departed.
One hour later, they arrived at Wuyu City. Mo Jian only stopped for a few before they departed for the next city.
The Crane City.
Just like that, they traveled from one city to another through the underground tunnel.
Finally, they arrived at the Purple Stone City.
Inside the Thousand Wealth Chamber Branch in the city, Merchant Tao looked at Mo Jian with a bright smile.
"Young Master, congratulations on the completion of the tunnel," Merchant Tao said.
"Thank you." Mo Jian nodded with a light smile on his face.
His greatest project was the interregional underground tunnel. This was to ensure smooth transportation between each of his branches.
Now, going to the Western Region would not be difficult any longer.
Additionally, their movement would not be monitored any longer.
What happened with the Jade River Exchange Hall had made him realize how important and urgent he needed the underground tunnel.
He looked at the smiling Merchant Tao, Elder Xu Bin, and the Old Withered Man.
These were the people in charge of the construction. And they did not disappoint him.
"You’ve all done well," he began, taking a sip from his spirit tea.
"I would have allowed the three of you to increase your cultivation—especially Merchant Tao—but we need you right now."
"Therefore, Old Withered Man will be first to use the Cloudsoar Retreat. After him, Merchant Tao and Elder Xu Bin."
"Thank you, Young Master," the three said in unison, unable to hide their joy.
"It’s what you deserve. Continue to work hard and you will receive more rewards," he added, still smiling.
’Now, I can start making the Mystic Train Engine.’
