Chapter 158: Aftermath.
Two days later.
The capital had descended into tranquility. The city was coming back to life from the chaos.
In the past two days, many small and middle clans had been destroyed. Their clan’s mansion turned to ruin.
Two of the top clans, the Ma clan and the Dong clan, forever became history. Their battle shook the whole capital.
Although the Gao clan and the He clan were victorious, their foundations were injured, and they needed decades to recover to their peak.
Apart from the clans, various merchant stores were destroyed, razed to the ground.
The Artifact Refining Hall and the Runic Inscription Hall, that had stood as hegemony in the region for years, were in wreckage.
From the hundreds of elders from these halls, only a few managed to survive. Many apprentices were caught in the crossfire, losing their lives.
The previous grand commerce district had lost its grandeur, with many destroyed buildings.
Now that the chaos was over, people came out of their homes and appeared on the street, walking in groups of two and three.
"I can’t believe a single statement from the Thousand Wealth Chamber Young Master would cause such carnage."
"Not only you. I thought those powerful forces would ignore his threat, but we’re all wrong."
"Huh! Without them lifting a single finger, they caused such chaos. Can you imagine if they were to take action personally?"
"That would have been a disaster."
"Indeed, the Thousand Wealth Chamber has become a terrifying force that no other force would dare go against."
"Why do you think the top sects did not intervene or try to stop the Thousand Wealth Chamber?"
"How will I know?"
"Perhaps, do you think they were scared of the Thousand Wealth Chamber?"
"What! That’s utter nonsense. Else you bring destruction to yourself."
On the streets, these types of conversations could be heard among the people.
Many of them came out to watch the destruction of the various buildings, while some came to try their luck.
From the ruins, they hoped to find many valuable things.
"Hahaha! Look what I found!" a voice shouted from the Artifact Refining Hall ruins.
A young man held a long sword which shimmered brightly. Looking at the artifact, the crowd were jealous.
Quickly, many became more passionate about digging the ruins. Who knows? They might also be lucky.
Inside the Golden Pavilion, the Pavilion Master watched the crowd digging ruins with disdain.
"My Lord, what are we going to do now that the war is over?" his assistant asked from behind.
"Now is the time to earn big," he responded without looking back.
With many clan destructions and with the two top clan destructions, there would be a lot of ownerless properties ready to be claimed.
This had been his aim from the start. Many were wondering why he did not join the alliance.
This was the reason.
He knew no matter what happened after the two forces fought, there would be a lot of ownerless properties.
He only needed to pay the governor a little money, and he would acquire everything with ease.
So why would he waste his time on pointless battles when others could do it for him?
"Tomorrow, we’re going to see the governor. I need to discuss with him how the capital can move on from this destruction," he said, and a greedy smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
While the Golden Pavilion was planning to capitalize on the opportunity, the Broken Moon Consortium was not idle.
They were also planning to buy the various properties at a cheaper rate.
Seven Talisman Trade Hall.
On the highest floor, inside a massive room, a beautiful middle-aged woman sat peacefully on her seat.
She picked the spirit tea served to her and stared at it for a moment before she took a sip.
Standing a couple of feet from her were three old men, their faces filled with respect and nervousness.
"Hmm... What a good tea," she said and raised her head and looked at the nervous old men.
"Where did you get it? This would be a huge sale in the Central Region," she mused, taking another sip.
"Mistress, this tea was provided by the Thousand Wealth Chamber," one of the old men responded in a low voice.
"Huh! Are you saying the new chamber produces this tea?" She creased her brow.
"Yes, Mistress," he nodded.
"How much are they selling it?" she demanded.
When the old men heard this, a bitter smile appeared on their faces. "Mistress, this tea is not on sale. We only managed to get the spirit tea leaves as a souvenir for participating in their auction."
The woman called the Mistress did not respond as she knitted her brow.
"Have you found the background of this Thousand Wealth Chamber?"
"No, Mistress. Please, punish us for being useless." The three old men lowered their heads in shame.
The Mistress clicked her tongue and shook her head. "Why would I punish you? You just need to work harder."
"Besides, with me here, I don’t believe we can’t uncover their background."
"Indeed, with the Mistress supporting us, it is only a matter of time before we uncover their secret," an old man said with an enthusiastic smile.
"Their secret? Have you gone insane from greed?" she said, her voice was sharp like a dagger.
"Ah! Sorry, Mistress. I misspoke. I did not mean it that way," the old man fell on his knees and pleaded.
"Humph! This would be the last time you speak without thinking. Next time, I wouldn’t mind cutting your tongue."
Hearing this, the old men shuddered, and a cold sweat ran down their spine.
They knew their Mistress was not kidding. She was not known as the Mistress for fun.
One of her hobbies was inflicting pain on people—mostly men. According to her, men’s screams gave her joy.
Watching the old men trembling, she wore a disdainful expression. She wouldn’t have rushed down to the Southern Region if not for the urgency in the message.
"Arrange a meeting with the Golden Pavilion Master. I want to see the legendary carriage you kept on yapping about."
"Yes, Mistress. We will arrange the meeting immediately."
Quickly, the three old men rushed out of the room as if their lives depended on it.
The Mistress did not mind their action and took another sip from the spirit tea.
’How could this place produce such a miraculous tea?’ she wondered.
Compared to other regions, the Central Region’s spiritual energy was thicker and purer, giving birth to many rare flowers and herbs.
Yet, they could not produce such tea.
Although there were many spirit teas with various effects, compared to this tea—
They were cabbage.
"Thousand Wealth Chamber..." she mused, a flash of curiosity appeared on her face.
...
...
The Governor’s Mansion
Inside a beautiful courtyard, a small pavilion stood at the center, surrounded by ornamental flowers.
Seated under the pavilion were two people drinking tea: a middle-aged man and a young man.
However, the two sat casually as if they were long-time friends.
"Young Master, can you tell me what brings you to my mansion?" the Governor asked, taking another sip from his tea.
Mo Jian dropped his teacup and straightened his back. "I’ve a business proposition for you. I don’t know if the Governor is interested."
The Governor did not change his expression but sat up straight. "Please, tell me."
"My chamber has developed an artifact that can help bring water to homes. People will not need to go to streams or fetch water from the well any longer."
"Apart from that, we created devices that can be used in the kitchen and bathroom."
Instantly, the Governor was piqued. He raised his brow and asked:
"How will that be possible? As far as I know, there is no such thing in this world. Even in the Central Region, I’ve never seen such a thing."
"Sir Governor, by now you should know my chamber is different from any other chamber or force you’ve encountered."
"What is impossible for others might be possible for us. So, are you interested in this artifact and this development?"
The Governor did not respond immediately. He looked at Mo Jian for a moment and asked:
"Is this for everyone in the capital or for a certain group?"
"For everyone. Everyone needs water. Why would I restrict myself to a particular group?" Mo Jian smiled lightly.
"Besides, I’m a businessman. Why would I do such a thing?"
"Alright. Although I don’t know if you’re going to achieve this, my gut is telling me this will bring the capital to a higher height."
"Indeed. This will change the capital forever."
"So what do you need from me to accomplish this? I know it is not money," the Governor said with a knowing smile.
"Hahaha. The Governor is right. I need a lot of land, and there will be major changes to the capital."
"So you need to make an announcement," the Governor said.
"Yes..."
"That is easy. Tomorrow, I’ll release the announcement."
