Chapter 123: The Rising Popularity.

Elder Yuan and his disciple left the Thousand Wealth Chamber with a pale face. They looked as if their souls had been sucked out of their bodies.

Weng Ping was crying inwardly.

I’m dead! I’m finished!

Why did I tell this damn old man about the Thousand Wealth Chamber if I knew he was nothing but a phony?

How can an Intermediate Tier-2 Artifact Refiner master lose so miserably?

He was damn pathetic in forging and runes!

Gosh! I shouldn’t have chosen such a useless master.

Apart from his idiotic pride, he had nothing to his name.

The more he thought about it, the more his rage rose toward his master. From the corner of his eyes, he looked at his master who had a lifeless expression and sneered.

After we return to the hall, I must find a way to ditch this old man and choose another master.

I can’t afford to be associated with these losers.

While Weng Ping was planning his safe exit, Elder Yuan was lost in thought. He could accept his forging technique had some errors.

Which Artifact Master’s technique didn’t have some flaws?

That is not a big deal.

As long as the flaws were not too much to hinder the artifact from functioning, no one would consider the flaws.

However, what he couldn’t accept and understand was the runes. Stonewall rune was a common rune among artifact masters.

Even artifact refining apprentices knew of it. Although there are many versions of the Stonewall rune, everything still follows the same concept and design.

However, what he watched in the Thousand Wealth Chamber transcended his understanding of runes.

What he saw was not mere rune, it was jargon combined perfectly with the traditional known rune.

Yet, it worked.

How can it work?

What is the secret behind it?

Is it possible there is foul play that I don’t know?

No. No. I checked everything. There is no foul play.

The more he thought about it, the more he went deeper into the rabbit hole, questioning everything he knew about runes.

Before they could arrive at the Artifact Refining Hall, the news of Elder Yuan’s defeat had already reached the Hall.

Everyone inside the hall could not believe their ears. How could their vice master lose to some unknown young master?

Even though they found it difficult to believe, the news could not be fake as many people had watched the confrontation.

Elder Yuan was totally defeated without any saving grace. Some even had the negative remarks made by Mo Jian.

Every elder and apprentice was discussing the news. This was something that had never happened before.

The Artifact Refining Hall was the haven of Artifact Refinement. They housed the best of the best. Their legacy was nothing ordinary chambers could compare with.

Yet...

On the top floor, all the hall elders gathered in solemn silence, their eyes fixed on the Hall Master with pensive, grave expressions.

A heavy tension seeped into the air, pressing down like an unseen weight, amplifying every faint sound.

The silence stretched thin, taut with anticipation and unspoken fears.

Each elder held their breath, eyes darting nervously, waiting for the Hall Master’s voice to break the stillness and reveal what was to come.

"What should we do?" Finally, the Hall Master broke the silence.

Quickly, an elder responded with a firm voice. "We must teach them a lesson. We cannot allow any insignificant chamber to trample on the prestige of the Artifact Refining Hall."

"The prestige has been built for centuries with the blood and sweat of the past refiners. We should depart immediately and destroy them and show the world we are not an object of ridicule."

All the elders nodded. They did not care if Elder Yuan was in the right or wrong. This was the prestige of the Artifact Refining Hall and they would bare their fangs.

"I suggest we start now. We should bar anyone from trading with the chamber. No one should trade resources with them. We cripple them inside out." An older elder added.

"Agreed. We should also announce that their chamber has become our enemy."

One after the other, the elders voiced their opinions on how to deal with the Thousand Wealth Chamber.

The Hall Master listened carefully without uttering a word.

Just then, the door was pushed open and a female apprentice entered the room.

Instantly, a deep frown appeared on the elders’ faces, but when they saw it was the Hall Master’s apprentice, their frowns disappeared.

Without looking at the elders, she reported, "Master, Elder Yuan has returned."

"Good. Call him. We need his attention here." The Hall Master replied.

She nodded and departed.

"Now that Elder Yuan has arrived, we can formally ask what really happened," the Hall Master said.

Although the small chamber had trampled on their prestige, he was curious. How could the vice master of the Artifact Refining Hall lose so miserably?

Creak!

The door was pushed open and Elder Yuan’s lifeless expression appeared before them.

Seeing his soulless face, both the elders and Hall Master were stunned.

What happened to him? They all wondered in their hearts.

The Hall Master cleared his throat and asked, "Elder Yuan, can you tell us what really happened out there?"

All the elders held their breath as they looked at Elder Yuan, waiting for his response.

For a moment, Elder Yuan did not reply, his eyes were hollow, lost in thought. After what seemed like forever, he turned and looked at the elders.

"Is there another type of rune apart from the one we know?" he asked. His voice had lost its usual confidence and pride.

He felt like a broken man.

Silence!

No one spoke a word for a full thirty seconds. They stared at him, unsure of what to make of his question.

"What did you see that makes you ask this question?" the Hall Master asked.

"I-I don’t know..." he stuttered. "But do you know another type of rune from the one we all know?" he asked once again.

"No. What we know is the only known runes," the Hall Master responded confidently.

When Elder Yuan heard this, instead of clearing, his confidence deepened. He was quiet for a moment before he muttered,

"Is it... Is it possible we’re not learning the real runes?"

No one replied, but their confusion deepened. Even the Hall Master couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was going on.

This was not a matter of losing a confrontation but something far deeper.

"What did you see? Tell us. We might help you."

"The Stonewall rune... I don’t know." He shook his head vehemently. "I’ve never seen something like that before."

"It’s rubbish... full of jargons... It doesn’t make sense—at all."

"H-How... how can it work?"

He shook his head, his face withered, losing its luster as he left the room looking more exhausted than ever.

Both the Hall Master and elders wore puzzled expressions. From the beginning to the end, none of them understood what just happened.

"What is going on? What happened to Elder Yuan?" an elder asked.

"What happened to the Stonewall rune?" another elder questioned, looking at others for answers.

"I think something important must have happened in that chamber that broke Elder Yuan’s understanding of runes," a voice responded slowly.

"Indeed..." The Hall Master nodded. "I heard the young master of the chamber corrected Elder Yuan’s Stonewall rune, but unlike our usual rune, I think he used something different."

"Now, our top priority is to find out what is strange about this rune."

The elders nodded. They realized how grave the situation was. If there was another type of rune, how could the Artifact Refining Hall not know about it?

Besides, who knew if it was good or bad?

Quickly, the hall sprang to action using all their available resources to find out about the runes.

While the Artifact Refining Hall was searching for the strange rune, the news of the vice master of the Artifact Refining Hall had spread throughout the commerce district.

"Are you saying the owner of the Thousand Wealth Chamber defeated the vice master of the Artifact Refining Hall?"

The mysterious leader of the Broken Moon Consortium asked with a light shock on her face.

"Yes, Young Miss." Her assistant responded with a nod. "Young Miss, this is an image stone that records everything."

She took the image stone and sent a portion of her spiritual energy into it, and an image appeared above the stone.

Even though the image did not have sound, from their actions she could predict what was going on.

"So, that is the owner of the Thousand Wealth Chamber..." she mused, and various thoughts flashed through her face for a moment.

Although she could not see Mo Jian’s face, the recording had proved the owner of the Thousand Wealth Chamber was a young man.

"This is getting interesting." She turned and looked at her assistant. "Make preparations. We’re going to their auction. When is it?"

"In three days."

"Good. Find out everything about them before that."

Meanwhile, at the Golden Pavilion, they were also reporting the news to the owner of the pavilion.

"Is this news genuine?" he asked in disbelief.

This was the vice master of the Artifact Refining Hall that they were talking about. How could anyone just defeat him that easily?

"Yes, My Lord. It was witnessed by a lot of people." His assistant responded and fetched an image stone from his spatial pouch.

"My Lord, this is the recording of the event."

After watching the recording, his shock deepened for a moment before a sharp glint flashed through his eyes.

"Find out everything about this new chamber," he commanded. "Also, make preparations. I’m joining their auction."

Apart from the powerful chambers and pavilion, all the powerful clans in the capital had gotten the news.

What everyone thought would be the downfall of the Thousand Wealth Chamber—who would have expected it would shoot them to glory?

With the news spreading like wildfire, it was only a matter of time before the whole capital knew of the Thousand Wealth Chamber.
