Chapter 59 - 59 59 Red Army Suona
59: Chapter 59: Red Army Suona 59: Chapter 59: Red Army Suona On the way to visit the elderly who lost their families, Lin Fei asked Wang Yixin where he could sell a Montblanc watch and Apple phones.
Wang Yixin said with an easy air, “That’s simple, leave it to me.”
Then, Wang Yixin drove the Lamborghini to a commercial plaza, asked Lin Fei to wait in the car, and went into the mall building alone.
In less than ten minutes, Wang Yixin returned to the car, handed a bulging envelope to Lin Fei, and said, “I have sold the watch and phones at the mall’s watch and phone counters for a total of fifty thousand.”
Lin Fei opened the envelope and saw five stacks of RMB inside.
“Thank you.” Lin Fei didn’t expect that Wang Yixin could sell a used Montblanc watch and a few used Apple phones for fifty thousand, which was indeed unbelievable.
Lin Fei suspected that Wang Yixin hadn’t sold those things at all and just handed him fifty thousand from her own pocket.
For someone who can afford to drive a Lamborghini, giving out fifty thousand is still very easy.
But Lin Fei wouldn’t know that Wang Yixin actually sold the watch and phones he gave her, and indeed for fifty thousand.
It’s just that the commercial plaza belongs to her parents.
Lin Fei didn’t say much, put the fifty thousand from the envelope into his pocket, considering it as both he and Wang Yixin donating to those elderly in need.
A little over ten minutes later, the Lamborghini driven by Wang Yixin arrived at an urban village near Huadu University.
The roads in the urban village were narrow, making it very cumbersome for flashy sports cars like Lamborghinis to maneuver, so Wang Yixin had to park on the roadside, and they chose to walk, as Yixin said that it wasn’t far.
The urban village was filled with buildings closely packed together, alleys intertwined like a spider’s web, many dimly lit, inducing fear, and garbage scattered everywhere.
Most residents here were migrant workers and various social underclass individuals.
Wang Yixin led Lin Fei through dirty and dark alleys.
This made Lin Fei slightly skeptical that a rich lady like Wang Yixin would even come to such a place?
“Yixin, aren’t you afraid of these dark alleys when you used to come here?” Lin Fei asked Wang Yixin.
Wang Yixin turned back to Lin Fei and said, “Afraid, I’ve been here three or four times, and each time I brought three or four bodyguards, but bringing bodyguards to visit the elderly was disturbing, so I stopped coming.”
Soon, they arrived in front of an old two-story building, whose walls bore traces of time and weather, clearly aging.
Wang Yixin told Lin Fei, “In this building lives Grandma Liang, who is in her nineties.
She’s a veteran Red Army soldier, whose husband died on the Long March, her only son sacrificed during the War to Resist U.S.
Aggression and Aid Korea, and her only grandson is now a soldier guarding the islands at the southern end of the seas.”
Lin Fei couldn’t help but say, “It’s a family of martyrs, a revolutionary household.”
Wang Yixin nodded, “Indeed a family of martyrs, and the only surviving veteran Red Army in Huadu City.
Over the years, even provincial and city leaders have come to visit Grandma Liang.”
Lin Fei asked, “Yixin, since the elderly have no relatives, why let her only grandson go far to guard the seas?”
Wang Yixin sighed and said, “It’s what the old lady desired; she wants her descendants to serve the country and guard its seas for generations.”
Lin Fei couldn’t help but feel respect for Grandma Liang whom he had yet to meet.
“Let’s go in and see the old lady!
Usually, this time, she should be having dinner,” Wang Yixin suggested to Lin Fei.
Lin Fei checked his phone; it was exactly 7 PM, indeed dinner time.
So, they approached, and Wang Yixin gently knocked twice.
The door creaked open, revealing a middle-aged woman in her forties.
“Who might you be…” the middle-aged woman sized up Lin Fei and Wang Yixin.
Wang Yixin told the woman, “Auntie, we’re students from Huadu University, and we’re here to see Grandma Liang.
How’s she been lately?”
Upon hearing they were Huadu University students, the woman enthusiastically ushered them inside, seeming accustomed to students visiting the old lady.
“Ah, you’re students from Huadu University, thank you for coming to visit my aunt.
I’m her niece,” the middle-aged woman explained to Lin Fei and Wang Yixin.
Clearly, this middle-aged woman usually took care of the elderly lady.
“Auntie, no need to thank us, where’s Grandma Liang?” Wang Yixin glanced around but didn’t see the old lady and asked the woman.
The woman frowned and sighed, “My aunt has been bedridden with a severe illness for several days, and the doctor issued a critical condition notice a few days ago.”
“What?
Grandma Liang, she…” Wang Yixin looked shocked, her voice trembling.
She had been away for only one or two months and didn’t expect the old lady to be gravely ill.
The woman said to Wang Yixin, “Girl, don’t be sad, my aunt doesn’t want us to be sad.”
“Auntie, may I see Grandma Liang?” Wang Yixin asked the woman.
The woman nodded and said, “Follow me.”
The woman led Lin Fei and Wang Yixin to a room upstairs.
Under the light, on a bed lay an elderly woman with white hair and wrinkled face, her eyes cloudy.
“Xiuzhu, who’s here?” the woman asked weakly.
“Aunt, Huadu University’s students have come to see you,” the middle-aged woman told the elderly woman.
“You are thoughtful, please sit…” the elderly woman’s gaze remained fixed on the ceiling.
The woman informed Lin Fei and Wang Yixin, “My aunt’s eyes can no longer see, please sit down!”
“Auntie, we don’t mind.” Wang Yixin looked at the frail grandmother, her eyes slightly reddened.
Lin Fei’s pupils shrank as his gaze started to scan the elderly woman’s meridians and internal organs.
But after seeing through, he realized that almost all of the old lady’s vital organs were at the brink of failure, about to cease functioning.
Needless to say, the old lady wouldn’t make it through the night.
Even though Lin Fei possessed some powerful mysterious energy others didn’t, it was impossible to restore all of the old lady’s failing organs.
He didn’t have the power to regenerate organs.
“Auntie, does Grandma have any last wishes?” Lin Fei asked the woman.
The woman pointed to a suona on the table in front of the bed and said, “My aunt said she wants to hear ‘Ten Farewells to the Red Army’ on the suona one last time, because that’s the tune she cherishes the most.”
Lin Fei’s gaze fell on the light-yellowed suona, with the red cloth wrapped around it faded to a light white, clearly an old Red Army suona kept since the Long March.
“Auntie, let me help fulfill Grandma’s wish.” Lin Fei picked up the suona from the table.
Just then, about a dozen people arrived at the entrance of Grandma Liang’s house.
“We’re here; this is Old Mrs.
Liang’s house.”
“Mrs.
Liang is the only living Red Army soldier in Huadu; we must cure her illness.”
“Mayor, I’ll knock on the door…”
