Chapter 92: 92. Mark and Lucy’s Search for Supplies (1)
After Anna finished helping Dylan, she fell into a confusion for a while.
It seemed that she had forgotten something.
What is it?
"Meow." Kitty pulled Anna’s trouser.
Anna looked at Kitty and patted the cat’s head. "What is it, Kitty?"
"Meow." Kitty beckoned towards the balcony.
Looking at the binocular that was sitting not far from the balcony window, Anna realized that she was planning to see when Lucy and Mark would return. She quickly walked to the balcony and sat down once again.
"Sister Anna, are you waiting for them to return again?" Dylan asked.
"Yes."
"They said that they might need another hour to return."
"How did you know?" Anna was stunned.
Dylan helplessly took out his phone. "Our mobile phones can be used at this time because it’s not using the local tower but through the satellite. Our country introduced that thing up there not long ago."
Anna was stunned and then realized that the newest model that was released were all equipped with the satellite connection. This would allow them to have internet connection even in remote areas as long as it was areas covered in the satellites.
With the large number of satellite their country has, there was only a very small area that was not covered in the satellite connection.
"...I forgot."
"Well, this thing is new, so you might have forgotten about it." Dylan was not surprised. "Just wait inside, it’s cold outside, Sister Anna."
"Alright."
"Meow~."
Kitty ran around Anna, making her laugh again.
Anna kept her phone nearby, ready to answer when Lucy called.
...
Lucy and Mark’s side
When Anna and Dylan were busy in the apartment to clean up and also cooked the rest of the flour, Lucy and Mark were rowing the boat on the water and looked around to find some places they could try to find food.
"This mall is still pretty high. The top floor is the food court and there are a lot of people going there." Lucy pointed at the right.
There were several boat stopping in front of the half visible mall. The window was broken and some people entered through that window. It was clear that their target was the food court.
Even though the people has been warned about the flood before, there were still some malls operating. There should be some food left in the refrigerator inside the restaurants in the food court and that should be their target.
Mark narrowed his eyes at the direction Lucy pointed at. "We can’t go there and compete with them."
"Well, I’m just saying."
"There are people outside who will target our boats if we try to go there."
"Huh?" Lucy was stunned and quickly looked closely to the group of people who were waiting below. It was easy to see that there were also some people who were roaming around and seemed to be looking at other people’s boat.
Some people were not master of crimes.
They only wanted to do this because the situation forced them to.
In their opinion, if they could obtain these boats, they would be able to earn a lot of money.
How many people wanted these boats?
They have been waiting for a month to be able to get out but because the rain was simply too fierce, even those who has boat didn’t dare to get out. Now they could get out but some people couldn’t because they didn’t have boat.
So, some others wanted to take advantage of this situation.
This is exactly what happened here.
"Shameless," Lucy cursed.
Mark shook his head. "You can’t help them. Even if you go there, how many people are not our match. Besides, we don’t know whether they have weapons or not."
Even though Lucy really wanted to beat up these people with her fist, she also knew that it wouldn’t be so easy to defeat them if she didn’t know their weapon nor their abilities. Lucy nodded and looked away.
"Where do you want to go?"
"I’m planning to go to a relatively remote area."
"Why?"
"Because there will be fewer people there and we might be able to take some supplies," Mark replied.
"I thought you’re going to buy them."
"Even if I want to, how do I know if there’s any open store here." Mark shook his head. "Use your head more, Silly Girl."
"I’m not silly, damn you!"
"Hey, hey, we’re going to fall at this rate."
"Hmph!"
Lucy crossed her arms and refused to look at her boyfriend as she rowed the boat once more. They also have engine but the problem was, there was no gasoline for them to use.
Even if they wanted to use it, they needed to fill the tank first.
And those oils, gasoline, nor diesels, were all submerged in the water.
They couldn’t get it in the slightest bit.
No one was willing to swim and dive in this muddy water that was filled with unknown things. Not to mention, they couldn’t see what was belong them. Who knows if they suddenly encountered danger and no one could help them?
They were not stupid enough.
So the only option left for them was to row by hand.
"Do you think we can trade for gasoline instead?" Lucy suddenly asked. She saw one of the boats was rushing at rapid speed and gone in a blink of the eye.
Thinking about her and her boyfriend having to work hard to row all the time, she felt a bit jealous.
"The gasoline is very precious right now, so it’s not like they’re willing to exchange it. Unless you have a method to take the gasoline from those gas stations under the water, then there might be some people who are willing to trade," Mark explained.
"Uh... speaking of gas station, will the gasoline there leak out?" Lucy pointed below.
"It shouldn’t be."
"Shouldn’t?"
Suddenly, Lucy felt that the location where she stayed was a bit dangerous. She really wanted to move from this place at the fastest speed possible.
