Chapter 382: 382. Research Institute (2)
Professor Black looked at Derek in confusion and then at Alicia. "Miss Alicia? What a pleasant surprise to see you here, but you want someone to see me?"
"Yes." Alicia nodded and then gestured for Anna to step forward. "This is Anna and she has a very special technique that can help your research."
"Oh?" Professor Black was doubtful and the other two professors who were present were also the same. But since the one who spoke was Alicia, then they were willing to give her face and didn’t show their doubt right away.
After all, they knew that Alicia was not a person who would speak nonsense.
"Professor Black, my name is Anna, and before I start, I want to ask if you have device that can measure the concentration of the dull powder in a certain place?" Anna asked.
Professor Black nodded. "This is one of the newest item made by the joint research of the official researchers."
Even if they were all in this situation, but many researchers would never put down their research down. No matter how much chaos happened outside, be it natural disaster, the attack of those giant mutated animals, or various other things, it would never stop them from continuing their work.
Because they didn’t want to abandon their work and wanted to see everything to its completion.
And the result was quite gratifying.
They were able to make a machine to analyze the substance inside a material and then determined whether the materials had a large concentration of dull powder or not. Because only those who had high concentration of dull powder was worth extracting.
"That’s good." Anna took out a potato from the bag she was carrying. "Please test this first."
A potato?
Professor Black was confused and wanted to ask more but he saw Alicia nodding her head. One of the two professors really wanted to reprimand Anna for wasting their time, but his friend nudged him and pointed at Alicia’s direction with his chin.
His warning was clear.
Those who dared to be impolite to Alicia would be faced with strict punishment from the base. Even if they were all researchers who had contributed to the base, their positions was not irreplaceable.
It was not like they were absolute genius or anything like that.
"Alright." Professor Black nodded and then headed to the room next door. There was a large machine and Professor Black put the potato into the container and then pushed the container inside.
"The machine is still very big," Alicia commented.
"We’re still working to make the smaller version, but for the time being, this is the best we could do." Professor Black said helplessly. "Research is not going to produce result right away and we only know the existence of the dull powder for several months. This is already very good."
"I see." Alicia nodded and then turned her head to look at the two other professor. "Professor Ken and Professor Len, are you here to watch too?"
"We’re discussing about the distribution of the liquid solution for the now seven families. If it’s based on the previous distribution, we won’t be able to make enough, so we’re trying to negotiate with them," Professor Ken replied. He smiled brightly. "Since you’re here, can you help us to convey this to them, Miss Alicia?"
Dylan glanced at Professor Ken.
This old man was also quite cunning and smart, different from many other professors who were too busy with their own research and couldn’t take the time off to see other things.
"Isn’t it just rejecting them? What’s so difficult about it?" Professor Len didn’t understand.
"It’s because they would be dissatisfied. They’re already having a lot of problems because of the rise of the two new leaders and now, they have to face the fact that the research institute is not able to meet their demand," Professor Black said with a sigh.
Derek was staying behind Professor Black, staying quiet and didn’t participate in their discussion. He was looking at the potato in the container and the machine that was working.
Thankfully, because they had similar type of machine in the past, the process for the scanning was not too long.
And the result was usually quite accurate with around 5% to 10% off.
"Well, it’ll be troublesome," Dylan murmured in a low voice.
He knew that his uncle didn’t care about the resources because he had much better resources. But the other four couldn’t not care about this matter. Their advancement speed was dependent on the resources they obtained from the research institute.
"If they could provide us something, then we don’t mind working overtime." Professor Ken sighed. "But so far, only Daniels Family was able to show something that was worth researching and all. But they’re also the one who didn’t seem to care about the research at all."
Anna arched her eyebrows. "Is it about the use of the giant mutated animals’ corpse?"
"Yes, is it from you, Young Miss?" Professor Ken asked, he was smiling.
Anna arched her eyebrows slightly and was about to say yes, but Dylan pulled her hand slightly from the back.
Dylan could see that Professor was very smart and cunning. He was able to guess this much just based on the fact that his uncle said that the idea didn’t come from him.
"I don’t think that my wife had the obligation to answer you, Professor Ken."
"My apologies if I overstep, but I was genuinely worried and curious," Professor Ken said and didn’t pester them anymore. He knew how to position himself well so that he would not appear annoying but still could achieve his purpose.
Professor Black laughed. "No matter who came up with that idea, it’s a genius move. But unfortunately, most of the giant mutated animals’ corpse still can’t be used as food and the rest served as nothing more than fertilizer for the plants. Who knows whether it’ll work or not to make the plants contain more dull powder."
