Chapter 535: Chapter 326 Surging Undercurrents_2
Obviously,
the blonde newcomer Mercenary didn’t know that the Black Tide Alliance had become a thing of the past.
After all, the destruction of the Black Tide Alliance made a big splash,
but it had been quickly covered up by several major countries, blocking most of the news.
Ordinary people wouldn’t know anything about it.
Even for bloodied mercenaries, a considerable portion would be in the dark about these events.
Jack’s information channels were quite good, and he barely knew something.
However, there isn’t exactly a brotherly relationship among mercenary groups, at least not among these individuals.
So in this makeshift squad of mercenaries,
some information wouldn’t be shared.
The newbie blonde Mercenary not knowing anything was naturally quite normal.
Thus he still wanted to know how much Jack had earned from that jungle mission.
After all, if he wasn’t interested in money,
what was he doing risking his life as a Mercenary?
However,
the short-haired female Mercenary who started the conversation did know some things and immediately stopped the blonde Mercenary from asking further with her magnetic voice:
"Enough, Reyno Crowley."
"The Black Tide Alliance is no more."
On hearing this,
the blonde Mercenary named Reyno Crowley’s eyes widened.
He didn’t immediately grasp what the female Mercenary meant by "the Black Tide Alliance is no more," and it took him a while to realize.
He didn’t know the Black Tide Alliance had fallen.
But he certainly knew what level of presence the Black Tide Alliance once was.
The Black Tide Alliance had bases across all continents apart from Antarctica, connections at high levels in the vast majority of countries, and absolute dominance in the grey areas related to wildlife industries.
Most importantly, its influence had gradually shifted from wildlife-related to grey industries like gambling and narcotics, and they were even developing many businesses around the world to launder their wealth.
In sum, it was a force that started from wildlife-related grey sectors, moving on to involve a huge web of profits and connections.
Maybe it was not as powerful as a small country, but the intricate web of interests made it a hot potato that was difficult to interfere with.
Only the absolute power of major countries could annihilate it in a sweep.
But most countries wouldn’t dare to take such action, as the cost-benefit of destroying the Black Tide Alliance was low; overall, it involved too many aspects and was more trouble than it was worth.
Now being told that the Black Tide Alliance was no more,
he was naturally baffled.
He wanted to ask more,
but the two people in front of him avoided the topic, saying no more.
Clearly, it was a matter with far-reaching implications.
Reyno Crowley, having thought about it and roughly understood, did not press the two for more information.
The group fell into a brief silence.
No new topics were broached.
All three were sitting at the table, idly fiddling with their mobile phones, their thoughts unknown.
Time slowly passed.
Footsteps were heard outside the door.
Then the door opened.
A new face walked in.
He held a document in his hand.
He was the captain of this small Mercenary squad, named Orkan Torre.
He was about forty years old, tall and muscular, his tight muscle lines showing years of strict training and combat experience.
His skin was bronze, obviously from long exposure to the sun.
There was a scar nearly spanning his cheek, which rather than diminishing his authority, added a tinge of ruggedness.
His hair was cut very short, almost a buzz cut, with a hint of gray at the temples, evidence of countless sleepless nights and tough battles.
His deep and sharp eyes seemed capable of seeing through people’s hearts; when he glanced over his team, everyone instinctively straightened up, presenting their best posture.
Seeing everyone sitting up straight and looking at him,
Orkan Torre waved the document in his hand and said, "Carola Taylor, Reyno Crowley, Jack Smith, a new mission has arrived."
"Get ready, we leave tomorrow."
After speaking, Captain Orkan Torre tossed the three copies of the document on the table, then turned and walked out of the room.
The group exchanged glances momentarily.
Then they immediately picked up a copy of the document from the table to read.
The captain’s authority always made them refrain from talking too much or being too lively when he was around.
But once the captain had left,
they promptly picked up the documents.
Jack, although he had just taken on a job from the Black Tide Alliance last time, hadn’t made any money.
Carola Taylor hadn’t been on a mission in a long time, having been ordered by the captain to train the newcomer Reyno Crowley, who had joined recently, to integrate their operational habits.
As for Reyno Crowley, he was just a replacement for a fallen comrade.
Though his previous records were decent,
he still needed some time to fit in.
And the new mission brought by the captain was the long-awaited assignment for all three of them.
For mercenaries, a mission meant money.
Mercenaries often lived by the principle of "earn and enjoy," with few bothering to save.
So the three of them were quite looking forward to this new task.
The content of the document soon captured their attention.
The mission’s objective was to abduct a person from a certain major country.
