I'm Really Going to Become an Immortal
Chapter 114 - 104: Shackles of the Mind, See How High the Sky Is

Chapter 114: Chapter 104: Shackles of the Mind, See How High the Sky Is

Qixi City’s rain had persisted for quite some time.

The entire afternoon and evening of March 26th were spent under the drizzle. Chen Yun and his three companions spent this time in their hotel.

The layered high-rises shone more tranquil and profound under the baptism of the fine rain, their windows reflecting glimmers of light, whispering the stories within the rain. Neon lights on the streets cast mottled shadows on the moist ground, interweaving with the raindrops to create a flowing tapestry.

The morning of March 27th.

As the sky had just cleared, Chen Yun and the trio according to plan embarked on their journey to Runzhou City.

The over two-hundred-kilometer distance lacked a direct high-speed train, so the group spent three hours on a coach, finally arriving at the Runzhou City Bus Terminal.

Chen Tianyou, their dad who had already been informed and was expecting their arrival, was cheerfully parking the van near the terminal’s exit.

Seeing this, Chen Yun immediately greeted his father with a big smile, leading his friends onto the vehicle.

Chen Tianyou smiled shyly, ready to help Sun Huwen with her suitcase.

However, Bai Shi immediately intervened with a laugh, "Uncle, don’t bother, I’ve got it."

Saying so,

Bai Shi effortlessly hoisted Sun Huwen’s suitcase onto the vehicle.

Next, the group left the bustling terminal, parking the car along a quiet roadside.

"Where are you guys staying tonight? Why not rough it at our place?"

Chen Tianyou asked warmly, turning his head from the driver’s seat to look at the others.

However, because it was his natural disposition, the warm smile seemed somewhat restrained.

"No thanks, Uncle, we’ve already booked a hotel," Sun Huwen replied politely with a smile.

They were friends, but there were still two girls in the group, which made it not only inconvenient due to gender but also because of the number of people.

It would be a different matter if it were only Bai Shi, a close male friend.

"Dad, just drop them off at the nearby Orange Hotel," Chen Yun said, pulling his gaze back from the window and speaking to his father, whom he hadn’t seen for a month, yet it felt like years.

Upon hearing this, Chen Tianyou asked no further.

With decades of driving experience, he soon parked the van smoothly at the entrance of the designated hotel.

Watching his son’s friends get out of the car one by one with their luggage, Chen Tianyou turned to Chen Yun, who was still in the passenger seat, and inquired, "What made you want to come back all of a sudden? You seem like you’ve been through a lot?"

"Did you suffer alone in Shucheng? I told you there’s no need to go so far to write novels. What about the four years of rent you’ve paid? If it comes to it, just forget about the money."

His father’s words hit the mark,

causing Chen Yun to freeze on the spot.

Indeed...

Parents could always discern that he had recently gone through a great deal.

He had just spent over half a month at home during the new year, and it was only just past the second lunar month now.

In such a short time, his body had undergone Evolution five times.

The lives under his command had already exceeded single digits.

All these were unimaginable to him, who had been a homebody writer over the new year.

Listening to his father’s concerned words, Chen Yun hesitated for a moment before admitting, "Indeed..."

"A lot has happened."

As these words left his mouth, he felt as if some shackles on his heart had been lifted.

The pressure was immense.

Sometimes it was necessary to talk to someone.

But Chen Yun couldn’t fully confide in anyone.

So his heart had always harboured a tinge of anxiety and pressure.

Now, subtly revealing his burdens to one of the people he trusted most, he felt an unprecedented relaxation.

The shackles of the spirit seemed to have been unlocked at that moment.

A strong sense of relief washed over him, reducing the intensity of the radio waves that had been increasingly piercing his brain since arriving in the hubbub of the town to something trivial.

This return home

was like a test of the mortal world, solidifying Chen Yun’s state of mind.

"If anything’s up, just tell me. I’ve raised you for eighteen years; it doesn’t matter if I have to do it a few more," Chen Tianyou said earnestly, giving Chen Yun a serious look.

He didn’t inquire what had happened.

That was a silent understanding between men.

Yet, he offered his promise without hesitation, or rather, extended the shoulder Chen Yun had relied on in youth once more.

Every time Chen Yun needed it,

this place would always be his haven.

This realization caused a momentary sting in Chen Yun’s eyes, although the rational balance mechanism promptly pulled him back to his unfazed state, for a moment he almost lost control of his emotions.

After a brief silence,

Chen Yun smiled at his father, then swung open the passenger door, speaking to his father at the helm, "You go ahead with your things; I will head back after I’m finished."

Saying this,

Chen Yun left the passenger seat with a newfound lightness, closing the car door behind him.

Watching Chen Yun descend, chatting with friends and waving goodbye to him, Chen Tianyou murmured a teasing scold, "Little rascal..."

With that, he waved goodbye from the car window before driving off.

Chen Yun also waved back, silently watching his father’s car drive away.

"What’s next for fun? You’re kind of a local, aren’t you?" Bai Shi suddenly poked Chen Yun playfully on the side, shifting the mood from emotional back to jovial.

"Kind of a local? Hmph!"

Chen Yun withdrew his gaze and, with a dismissive nod at Bai Shi, responded.

Both of his parents were not from Runzhou City – his father came from Lianshui City, where the group had been to before, and his mother was from Sheyang City, to the east of Lianshui.
