I'm Not The Drama God
Vol. 1 - Ch. 12 - Chen Yan

In a flash—

A figure clad in opera robes squeezed out from within the red paper monster, hanging upside down in mid-air.

Sensing that Chen Ling was about to return, the red paper monster began struggling wildly. Its body started to become increasingly transparent, like wet paper in the rain, getting thinner and thinner.

Suspended from it, Chen Ling flew near the ground, swaying incessantly and feeling dizzy.

The torn paper gap kept wriggling, seemingly trying to swallow Chen Ling back, while Chen Ling stubbornly held onto his upper body, resisting the dizziness and wrestling with it!

Just then, a drenched teenager ran across the devastated land, heading straight towards them!

"Brother!!"

A hand grabbed Chen Ling's arm and forcefully pulled him downward!

Chen Ling felt a surge of strength, and his lower body separated directly from the paper, his whole body passing through the gap between the theater and reality, falling heavily to the ground!

The moment Chen Ling broke free, the paper monster in the air completely melted away, as if it had never appeared.

Clad in a large red robe, Chen Ling lay on the muddy ground, breathing heavily.

The sky was gloomy and oppressive, with fragmented raindrops sliding down his hair.

Amidst the dizziness, Chen Ling saw a familiar face shaking his body anxiously.

"Brother! Brother!! Are you okay?"

The dizziness gradually faded, and Chen Ling focused his gaze, slightly stunned.

"A-Yan? What are you doing here?"

The young man in front of him was none other than his brother, Chen Yan.

In the memories of the original host, Chen Ling took pride in only two things in his life.

First, passing the enforcer exam through his own efforts; second, having Chen Yan as a brother.

This is not to say that Chen Yan was particularly smart or talented. On the contrary, Chen Yan was not bright. His grades in class were always at the bottom, and he stuttered when talking to others, making him one of the easiest targets for bullying at school.

But since Chen Yan was still wearing open-crotch pants, he followed Chen Ling every day, doing whatever Chen Ling asked him to do. Even when he was mischievous and almost suffocated Chen Yan by burying him in the sand, Chen Yan's first reaction after being rescued was not to cry, but to laugh foolishly.

Since then, wherever he went, he brought Chen Yan along, and no matter what he did, Chen Yan unconditionally trusted him.

Chen Ling was ordinary, but through Chen Yan's eyes, he saw a different side of himself... a self he was admired by.

"I, I..." The drenched teenager was a bit incoherent, "After I woke up from the surgery, I've been waiting in the hospital for you to come pick me up... Then, then I heard outside that there's a 'world-ending' level of calamity invading, and I was very worried about you guys.

I took advantage of the hospital staff's inattention and sneaked out, planning to go home to find you guys, and then I saw you being suspended by a monster..."

"Aren't Zone 2 and Zone 3 blocked off? How did you get here?"

"It seems like the enforcers don't have enough manpower. They only sealed off the area outside Zone 2 and Zone 3, but there aren't many stationed between the two zones. I sneaked over."

Chen Ling shook his head, finally managing to sit up with great effort. He looked at the worried face in front of him, feeling incredibly complex emotions.

Li Xiuchun and Chen Tan set up a trap to kill him, just to save Chen Yan's life. In a sense, Chen Yan caused Chen Ling's death.

But upon closer inspection, Chen Yan himself didn't know any of this. He was just a fifteen-year-old boy who believed his parents when they said there was a way to cure him, and obediently lay down on the operating table...

Even if he were cured, he wouldn't know that the beating heart in his chest came from his brother.

Thinking of this, a hint of faint sorrow flashed in Chen Ling's eyes as he looked at him.

"Brother... Did you kill someone?"

Chen Yan's gaze shifted to Han Meng, covered in blood, his young face as pale as paper.

"I didn't kill him," Chen Ling instinctively replied, "It wasn't me, it was..."

But before he could finish his sentence, he froze.

He didn't know how to explain all of this to Chen Yan. Chen Yan had seen him coming out of the red paper monster's body, and now he had a gruesome wound on his neck, covered in blood. He looked far from human.

How could he tell him that there was an "audience" in his mind? That he had just been possessed?

Chen Ling's mind was in turmoil. He inherited the memories of the original host, as well as the feelings towards his brother. Deep down, he was even afraid... afraid that Chen Yan, like his parents, would also see him as a monster.

But Chen Yan just looked at him quietly, his chestnut eyes showing no fear.

After a moment of serious contemplation, he walked to Han Meng's side, exerting all his strength to lift him onto his back. Then, swaying unsteadily, he walked towards the deeper wilderness.

"What are you doing?" Chen Ling was stunned.

The slender figure of the boy, carrying Han Meng, who was almost twice his weight, left deep imprints in the moist wilderness with every step.

Even so, he gritted his teeth and staggered forward.

"Brother, he's an enforcer."

"I know."

"Killing an enforcer is a serious crime. Once they find out, regardless of whether or not it was you, brother... they will come to kill you."

"... I know, I..."

"Brother," Chen Yan whispered softly, "I'll go help you bury him."

Seeing the firm and serious gaze in Chen Yan's eyes, Chen Ling's heart trembled slightly.

He hesitated for a moment, finally continuing the second half of his sentence:

"Not... A-Yan, what I mean is... he's not dead yet!"

Chen Yan: ?

Confused, Chen Yan turned around and happened to see Han Meng behind him, eyelids twitching slightly, emitting a faint groan, indicating that he would soon wake up.

He exclaimed in shock, lost his balance, and fell to the side, causing the unconscious Han Meng on his back to tumble to the ground with a thud.

In a daze, Han Meng gradually opened his eyes slightly...

A red figure suddenly rushed to his side, raised his fist high, and smashed it onto the back of his head!

Bang!

Just as Han Meng was about to wake up, he felt a sharp pain at the back of his head and immediately lost consciousness again.

Chen Ling shook his sore palm and let out a long sigh of relief.

He almost got killed by this guy!

Just now, Chen Ling witnessed the entire process of Han Meng fighting the red paper monster through the stage curtain. Although he didn't know what kind of special ability the man used, without the red paper monster, he would definitely not be a match.

"Let's go."

After knocking out Han Meng, Chen Ling glanced at the rain, which was getting heavier, and immediately pulled Chen Yan away from the scene.

There would not only be one enforcer in Zone 3. Han Meng’s presence here might simply be because he was the fastest. If they lingered any longer, once the other enforcers arrived, they wouldn't be able to escape.

Han Meng lay unconscious in the pit, while the two teenagers gradually disappeared into the distance.

The heavy rain washed away the ravaged wilderness, the mud flowing and erasing all traces.

A few minutes later, a group of figures dressed in black and red uniforms hurriedly arrived.
