Chapter 48: Uncle Leo’s Plans
(KIRA’S POV)
________
Slightly over thirty minutes later, my screeched to a halt in the parking lot of Beacon Studios. I needed to catch my uncle when he was free because I knew that he could use even the tiniest reason to avoid meeting with me. I couldn’t have that. He loved doing things on his terms and from now on, I had to show him that I was just as capable of taking control. Even from him.
I stepped out of the car and slammed the door shut, I heard the satisfied beep as the locks engaged, and then holding onto my purse, I made my way to the private elevator. This was only open to the high echelon of the company, and family members of course.
I punched on my uncle’s floor and when I got there, Abby was waiting for me. I was sure that security had informed her of my arrival.
"Is he still in the meeting?" I asked the minute I stepped out of the elevator.
Abby nodded and began to hurriedly walk behind me, "but like is said, it’s nothing serious."
I walked into the plush office space, there were other secretaries there but I knew that Abby was Leo’s favorite and as such, that made her the most important. She was the one who had control over my uncle’s itinerary and whatnot. She was basically Leo’s version of my sweet Lena. I was wondering if she would play a part in my master plan.
I stopped before the door to the main office, I then turned to face her, "uhm... between us girls, what’s his mood like?"
"Honestly..." Abby shrugged. "It’s quite sketchy. He’s been a bit sketchy, whatever he’s doing is under tight wraps. He’s keeping even me out of it. However, I know that he got an email from Jace Blackwood this morning, and since then he has been cooped up in the office. He doesn’t have much time before his meeting, so whatever you plan to do, I suggest you hurry."
I smiled at her and pushed the door open, then with a swish of my hair, I walked in, letting the door swing shut behind me. His head jerked up at once at my entrance, when he saw that it was me. He had a headset on, it was connected to the open laptop on the desk before him. He covered the mouthpiece and scowled at me, "What do you want?"
I shook my head sadly, my uncle was never going to change. If Abby was right, I could guess that Jace had sent in the new contract to Leo, but I doubted that he was going to show me because I wanted to see it. However, that wasn’t my mission. Lena had been right when she told me that I had to make Leo tell me about the contract because that was the only way I could confront Jace about it without getting back to Lena. And I had to confront that motherfucker!
"It’s nice to see you too, Uncle," I said as I walked into the office, and without waiting for an invite, I took the seat opposite him. "Who were you talking to?"
"Who the hell do you think you are? Waltzing in here and asking who I’m speaking to?" he barked as he closed his laptop and pushed it to the side.
"If it’s a business call, I’d like to know about it. After all, I’d be taking over the company soon."
He frowned, "have you forgotten about our conversation already? I already made my intentions known, and that’s final."
"Is that why you’ve been having meetings with Jace? Meetings without me?"
He simply shrugged, "you were the one who told him about our discussion. It was between an uncle and his niece, and you brought him in. It was only natural that he came here to confirm. After all, he’s a businessman and he’ll do whatever he can to protect his company."
"As would I."
He scoffed, "You’re not a businessman, Kira. Just go home."
"What did you and Jace talk about yesterday?"
"Why don’t you ask him?"
"I’m asking you!"
"It’s none of your business, okay? It was just a discussion between two CEOs, you would never understand it."
"Are you seriously kidding me right now? If you keep doing this, I’m gonna have to follow up on this."
"It won’t make a difference," Leo said calmly, his eyes leveled.
At that, I stopped as I sat back in my chair. Lena had been right when she said that Leo knew about the amendments.
"Holy shit..." I gasped, "My suspicions were correct, you’re working with Jace to take Beacon Studios from me!"
"You’re a Windsor, dummy!" He said exasperatedly, "No one is taking the company from you. However, if you keep acting up, I definitely will."
"What the hell do you expect me to do? If you have your way, I won’t have any say in my company, I won’t have any form of control. Even when you retire, you’d be controlling the damn thing through Jace. I’m not going to allow that!"
My uncle slammed his fists on his desk as he surged to his feet, "You don’t allow anything, I decide what gets allowed here! And as long as I’m in this seat, you do what I tell you! I’m trying to make sure that you’re not burdened with the pressure of taking care of such a large company. Why are you making me out to be the bad guy here?"
"You fucking sexist! You just don’t want a woman being the CEO! Don’t you dare lie about doing it for my own good! How the hell are you willing to trust the desires of a man like Jace? How sure are you that he won’t just take the company from you and kick you out?"
"What do you think I am? An idiot? I made sure that would never happen!"
I finally saw my chance and I seized it, "holy shit! The only way you can be sure of that is by a legally binding contract. Did you get a new contract? Or did you amend the old one?"
His burrows furrowed as he stared at me, but he said nothing, "I can’t believe this. I thought I could trust Jace, but apparently, you both are cut from the same cloth!"
"There’s nothing you can do to change it," Leo said. "He has sent me the amendments, I’ll go over them with my lawyer and if I like the changes, I’ll sign off on it. The wedding will go on as scheduled but things will be very different from what you planned."
I stared at him as I felt rage course through my veins, "I won’t let that happen. Mark my words."
I grabbed my purse then and stormed out of his office. I got what I wanted, he had told me about the contract, so I could openly confront Jace about it. Abby and her colleagues waved at me as I walked past, but I didn’t notice them. I was walking fast, hoping to walk off the anger that I was feeling.
When I was back in the car, I picked up my phone and dialed a number. Since the first phase of my plan went smoothly, it was time to go to the second.
It was time to start destroying my uncle’s support system.
