I'm an Extra, so What? -
Chapter 101 - 101: Hidden Daughter
Suddenly, the tranquil ambiance shattered.
Guards clad in armor dashed across the open grounds of the World Tree, their boots pounding against stone and enchanted wood.
Their voices were low but urgent, signaling each other with sharp hand gestures and curt nods.
Some sprinted across the latticework bridges that connected the towering trees, while others disappeared into shadowed alcoves and hidden paths.
Luka's eyes narrowed as he observed the flurry of activity, his instincts flaring.
He tapped his personal maid lightly on the back, just enough to get her attention.
Serene turned, her expression puzzled.
Luka leaned in close, his voice a whisper. "Follow me."
Serene didn't respond with words, simply giving him a half-nod, her eyes glimmering with a mix of confusion and trust.
"…" Luka turned, his pace quickening as he led them away from the central trunk of the World Tree and into the winding outer pathways. .
"What's happening?" Serene asked, her voice hushed but laced with curiosity.
Her eyes darted around.
"The hidden daughter of the Elf King has been kidnapped…" Luka replied matter-of-factly.
He barely glanced over his shoulder.
"…" Serene's eyes widened, her footsteps faltering for just a second before she picked up the pace to match his stride.
"What? Hidden daughter? How…how do you know that?"
Luka didn't bother to answer.
His mind was already working, processing the events unfolding around them.
He remembered the lore from the game—
This exact scenario played out in fragments of dialogue and scattered texts.
The hidden daughter of the Elf King, a child born of secrecy was taken by traffickers.
Human traffickers.
Or rather, elf traffickers.
They specialized in kidnapping elves and selling them to the Demons, a dark underbelly of trade that few dared speak about in public.
'They must be moving her to the hidden passage… But which one…?'
Luka's eyes scanned the sprawling bridges and intertwining roots, his thoughts racing.
Guards continued to swarm the area, shouting orders and blocking off pathways.
Luka and Serene moved through the chaos, weaving between clusters of stunned elves, their expressions painted with shock and disbelief.
"Wait, Young Master? What do you mean hidden daughter?" Serene pressed, her voice cracking slightly with urgency.
Once again, Luka didn't answer.
He only pressed forward, his eyes scanning every tree trunk and structure they passed.
His pace quickened, nearly breaking into a jog as they crossed one of the vine-bound bridges, its surface swaying slightly beneath their feet.
Luka's eyes darted left and right, his mind replaying the layout from the game.
'Which tree was it… which one…?' he thought.
And then, he saw it.
A massive oak tree stood slightly apart from the others.
Its roots snaked around like coiled serpents.
Construction scaffolding surrounded it, and wooden planks with signs reading "Under Construction" were nailed haphazardly to its surface.
Workers were nowhere to be seen.
"There," Luka muttered to himself, his eyes locked on the oak.
Without hesitation, he ignored the signs, ducked under a hanging rope, and marched straight for it.
Serene hurried after him, glancing nervously at the barriers they passed.
"Are you sure…?" she began—
But Luka was already crouching down, brushing aside a pile of leaves and bits of debris.
"Found it." His hand pressed against the moss-covered hatch in the middle of the tree's base.
A hatch handle—
Which Luka gripped firmly before yanking it open with a grunt.
The hatch creaked, rusted from disuse but still functional.
A ladder descended into shadowy depths.
Luka stood back up and dusted off his hands.
"Stay here. Too dangerous," he said, locking eyes with his personal maid.
Serene's mouth opened in protest.
"Young Master, whatever is really happening, I want to help!"
Her fists clenched, eyes pleading.
Luka shook his head.
"No. Down there, there's no safety. I can't watch your back and mine. I only have enough bandwidth to care for my own life in this situation." His voice was blunt.
A heavy silence fell between them.
Serene's eyes shimmered with a quiet determination as she looked around, her gaze catching on a pile of discarded tools.
Her eyes locked onto a metal hammer, its surface scarred and slightly rusted, but sturdy enough.
Without another word, she walked over, picked it up, and returned to her Young Master.
She held out the hammer to him.
"Here. Take this. For self-defense, of course."
Luka stared at her for a moment. "Good thinking."
He reached out and took the hammer from her, its weight settling comfortably in his grip.
"Thanks," he said, giving it a small swing to test its balance.
Serene took a step back, her hands clasped tightly in front of her as she watched him.
"Just… be careful, okay?"
Luka shot her a wink. "When am I not?"
And with that, he stepped down into the hatch, as he began his descent into the darkness.
'Don't look down… Don't look down…'
These words played on a loop in Luka's mind as his fingers clenched around the rungs of the rope ladder as the hammer was in his mouth.
His boots scraped against the narrow rails, and every creak sent a shiver through his spine.
Wind howled from somewhere deep below, a sharp, whistling gust that rattled the ladder and made it sway.
Luka bit his lip, tasting iron.
His breath came in short, controlled bursts.
He moved as fast as he dared, hand over hand, foot over foot, without losing his grip.
He knew if he slipped, there would be no second chances.
The fall would be long…and final.
'Not now…not now…' Luka thought to himself.
The wind picked up again.
The rope ladder quivered beneath his weight, vibrating through his fingertips.
He stopped, pressing his forehead against the rope ladder, feeling it tremble against his skin.
He took a moment, forcing air into his lungs, grounding himself.
His heartbeat slowed—just a little—and the shaking in his hands calmed.
When the wind finally died down—
Luka opened his eyes.
He started moving again, slower this time, more measured.
One rung, then another, the rope ladder groaning under his weight.
He couldn't tell how far he had descended.
Then, his foot found nothing but air.
"Shit!" Luka gasped, his heart leaping into his throat.
