Chapter 89: Parts Assignment (1)

Chapter 89: Parts Assignment (1)

"Achoo!" Xu Jiji sneezed once again.

From the moment they started up till now, he kept sneezing and sneezing. He even looked quite pitiful with the towel draped over his head.

The unfamiliar person that arrived with Mr. Big News quietly glanced at Xu Jiji. Noticing this, Jiji immediately wiped his nose and apologized.

This person was one of their trainers. And he also turned out to be one of Xu Jiji’s sponsors. Without saying anything, the trainer removed his gaze from Xu Jiji and looked at the lyric sheet in his hand instead.

Meanwhile, their other trainer, Pia Welch enthusiastically greeted all of them. "Hello, guys!"

The other members greeted her back.

"I’m Pia Welch, your Visual Trainer," she introduced, then turned toward the person beside her. "And this is Vance, your vocal and dance skills trainer! Nice to meet you!"

"Have you rested well yesterday?" she asked.

Everyone nodded stiffly.

"C’mon, guys! Show more enthusiasm!" She complained. "Ya! Minho! Didn’t I say you should always smile?"

Minho immediately smiled sheepishly. After the others learned that she was one of Minho’s sponsors, the others wasn’t puzzled by their interaction.

With Pia Welch’s cheerful attitude, the awkward atmosphere gradually lifted.

Just then, she clapped to gather their attention once more.

"Since everyone’s already feeling upbeat, let’s get down to business." Turning to the person beside her again, she nudged him at his side. "It’s your turn."

"Oh." Vance lifted his head then looked at everyone. "Have you memorized the lyrics?"

"....."

They only received the copy of the song just yesterday, so how could they memorize it already?

Disappointed, Vance lowered the lyric sheet in his hand and stared at all of them — especially at Xu Jiji.

"If you haven’t memorized it yet? What will you practice now?" he asked.

Pia nudged him again.

"Hehe... Sorry, he’s just grumpy because he hadn’t slept yet," she said to the members before turning to Vance. "What’s the rush? You haven’t even given them their parts yet."

"What’s the rush? They only have five days to memorize everything before they film the MV," Vance responded.

"Stop jumping the gun already!" Pia exclaimed. "They can just memorize the lyrics as they go. Assign them to their parts first."

Vance clicked his tongue.

Rayen glanced at Xu Jiji from the corner of his eyes. Was this how Xu Jiji was being treated by his sponsors?

’It’s kinda scary... Why’s it so opposite from how my sponsors are treating me?’

"Then I assume you at least know the song’s melody?" Vance asked, finally giving in to Pia’s urging.

This time, everyone nodded.

"Then let’s start. What part do you want?" he asked again, looking at everyone.

Rayen looked at his own lyric sheet on his hand, staring at one particular part of the song. As someone who hadn’t tried singing hip-hop before, Rayen could only aim for the part with lesser rap — the chorus.

Before anyone could snatch it from him, he raised his hand to volunteer as the first to try.

"I’d like to try the chorus," Rayen said.

"Go on." Vance only briefly glanced at him before signaling for him to start.

With Vance’s signal, Rayen started singing the song deserving of an S rank vocalist with the melody he remembered.

"Oh your laughter’s breaking my heart!

A-a-a-aww yeah!

Can you hear it?

Shattering, shattering, shattering."

He executed each notes with precise control, even the part with staccato was so rythmic, that it felt easy to the ears.

Last night, he repeatedly listened to it before going to bed, so the melody was already deeply ingrained in his mind. He could even hum the melody of the rap parts too, but he hadn’t tried rapping it.

When he finished singing the chorus part, Vance wore a deadpan expression, his eyes not even on Rayen.

’Did I mess up?’

Pia welch clapped excitedly. "You’re really good. I think he could pull it off."

Pia’s attitude really reminded Rayen of his own sponsor, Madame Sophie. What he didn’t know was that the two were close friends, which could explain the similarity.

However, Vance didn’t give Rayen any feedback, ignoring Pia’s words. Instead, he continued to stare at Xu Jiji.

"Is there anyone who wanted to try the same part?"

Rayen also couldn’t help but glance at Xu Jiji, but the little kid remained silent. Blinking in puzzlement, Rayen turned back his gaze to their trainer.

’Is he expecting Xu Jiji to try this part?’

Just then, another person raised their hand.

"Can I also try?" Mr. Big News asked.

Shifting his gaze away from Xu Jiji, Vance looked at Mr. Big News. "Of course."

With that, Mr. Big News sang the same part, his style of singing clearly different from Rayen. Unlike Rayen, Mr. Big News has a husky voice, cool to the ears.

He sang like he was serenading everyone.

"Stop."

The moment Vance uttered that, Mr. Big News halted his singing.

"You’re not supposed to sing it that way," Vance said. "You’re supposed to sing it playfully. Got it?"

Mr. Big News’s lips pursed at the comment and nodded. He was about to try again when Vance stopped him from doing so.

"Why don’t you try the intro to the bridge instead?"

"Intro... bridge?"

"Yes."

Mr. Big News hesitated for a moment. From what he remembered, that part only has a single line. But the trainers possibly wouldn’t give him only a single line, right?

Thinking that way, Mr. Big News said, "Okay..."

Switching to a different page in the lyric sheet, Mr. Big News quickly found the part before the bridge. He opened his mouth and sang the line according to the melody he remembered.

Also wanting to try out for the main vocal part, Mr. Big News focused on memorizing the chorus, so he was slightly off-tune when he sung it.

Yet, the part still sounded quite good since Mr. Big News’s serenade singing was more suited to this part.

Throughout the song, only this part was quite calm as though it was preparing the listeners for the song’s highlight.

At first, Rayen also wanted to try out for this part since it was the most ballad-like part of the song. But since he wanted to challenge himself, he chose the chorus instead because of its high notes and playful voice maneuver.

It was quite fun to sing.

Besides, if Mr. Big News couldn’t do it and no one else wanted it, he could possibly try snatching it for himself.

By the end of Mr. Big News’s singing, Vance nodded in satisfaction.

"Anyone else want that part?" Vance looked at everyone, ut seeing that no one wanted it, he finally wrote down Mr. Big News’s name on the sheet. "Good, that part is yours. Just practice more."

’What about me? He didn’t say anything about me.’

Exactly as Rayen was about to start panicking for not receiving any feedback, Vance finally turned his gaze back to him.

"You... How about you try the lead vocal parts?"

’Lead vocals? Is that any different?’
