Chapter 60: Zombie In A Metropolis
Chapter 60: Zombie In A Metropolis
The system had completely become unresponsive. Ever since this happened, Rayen’s heart had been pounding loudly. He had no idea what would happen next.
Face pale, Rayen finally realized that he was alone. His teammates were nowhere to be found.
He gulped.
’Am I lost?’
As he walked further, Rayen noticed that the place he’d been transported to seemed oddly familiar. The buildings and the stalls... If Rayen wasn’t mistaken, this was a place he frequently visited when he was alive.
’I-I’m back?’
Walking a little more, Rayen spotted a street sign at the corner with a familiar city name. Rayen stopped in his tracks. He really was back in his hometown.
But why? Wasn’t he supposed to be sent to South Korea? Was this related to the system error earlier?
’Just what the hell is happening?! Okay, breathe in. Breathe out...’
Where should he go now? If the system wasn’t working, what should he do? Was it only him that was sent to a wrong place?
’Ahhhh!!! I can’t calm down!’
Rayen ruffled his hair in frustration.
Passersby glanced at him with narrowed eyes, looking at him as though he had gone crazy.
But who wouldn’t lose his mind in this situation? This was even more ridiculous than him waking up on a strange greenhouse. At least back then, he hadn’t been repeatedly tossed and turned through space, and he had been guided on what to do!
But right now, without the system, having no money, and no one to rely on, he was nothing but a zombie man lost in a metropolis.
Rayen let out a deep sigh of frustration.
Should he wait here in case someone came to fetch him?
Standing in place, Rayen crossed his arms, sometimes looking at the phone in his hand. Yet, nothing happened.
He waited and waited, but nothing happened.
Sitting down like a lost child, Rayen was just about to lose his patience when a shadow loomed over him. He slowly looked up to see who it was and found an unfamiliar person standing there. Behind her was a group of teenagers in school uniforms.
"It’s really him!" a female student exclaimed.
The students giggled excitedly, whispering among themselves, while deep confusion spread across Rayen’s face.
The same girl, who was before Rayen, stepped forward and asked in a familiar language, "Is it you?"
’Who?’
"Craktusss, crunchy wow?"
It was quite a weird sensation. Having relied on supernatural means to communicate with others speaking different languages, the sound of his mother tongue felt foreign for a moment. It was as if he hadn’t conversed with anyone for a long time.
"A-Ahh... You know me?" Rayen stammered.
She nodded rapidly, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
"You’re famous, right? Can we take a picture with you?"
"....."
’Why would you ask me if I’m famous? I don’t even know!’
Still, Rayen nodded in agreement and stood up. After receiving his consent, the students behind the girl quickly gathered around Rayen as the girl took out her phone.
Rayen smiled at the camera, somewhat used to it. This kind of situation wasn’t new to him, even in his past life. And as expected, they didn’t stop at one photo. Anticipating this, Rayen made a peace sign for the next picture.
"Thank you!" the girl said, blushing a little bit. "You look better in person."
Taken aback, Rayen could only reply, "Ah?"
Ignoring his reaction, the girl asked again, "Can I post this?"
Rayen nodded absentmindedly. He watched them walk away while repeatedly thanking him with bright smiles on their faces.
So even here, his advertisement had reached?
Suddenly, Rayen felt unease about that thought. He hurriedly left the area, hoping to avoid more encounters.
But leaving didn’t help.
With his eye-catching red hair, more people began recognizing him. He had to take more pictures, especially with teenagers, on the street.
Then, when he entered a convenience store, a life-size standee near the entrance caught his attention.
It was him.
Dumbfounded, he stared at the standee before quickly leaving. Yet, he encountered himself again on the TVs displayed in an electronics shop. His comical dancing played on the screens, seemingly mocking him.
His face flushed with embarrassment.
As he walked further, he spotted himself again—this time on the ground. A bag of chips lay discarded near his feet, his face printed on the packaging.
’Jeez! Who’s littering in a public place?!’
Grabbing the trash, Rayen tossed it into a nearby trash can.
Sigh.
Although he was quite famous in the past, it wasn’t this excessive. Was it because of Madame Sophie’s influence?
What Rayen didn’t know was that Vallenci’s headquarters had recently relocated to his country, so their influence here was great.
As he walked aimlessly through the streets, curious eyes followed his every move. If he went on like this, would he be able to complete the challenge just by walking around?
’Maybe not. The system couldn’t even be contacted...’
Suddenly, Rayen felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. Startled, he quickly pulled it out.
[Idol:Revive: Propagator System has something to say to you.]
Exclamation marks filled his mind. The system was finally back!
Rayen tapped the notification to read its content.
Suddenly, Mini Plotter appeared on his screen. His eyes darted around, wary of the surroundings.
After a few moments, it spoke using a text bubble. "I’m sorry, an error occurred. Is Participant Rayen fine?"
A blank response box appeared at the bottom on the screen. Puzzled, Rayen tapped it, and the screen keyboard appeared.
’So that’s it...’
Rayen typed, "I’m fine."
Mini Plotter made a relieved gesture before another text bubble appeared above his head.
"The team is currently resolving the problem. Please quickly find an open space location where there aren’t that many people."
Despite the strange instruction, Rayen glanced around, but because it was currently near dusk, students crowded the parks and public spaces.
Unable to find a suitable spot, Rayen muttered while looking at Mini Plotter on his screen, "I can’t find one..."
Then, he bumped into someone. The person immediately complained, his voice familiar.
"Watch where you’re—" The voice paused. "Rayen!"
Rayen looked up from his phone, his nervous heart settling as he recognized the person.
It was Adrian.
And standing behind him... was Liam.
