Idol Revive: If I Don't Debut, I'll Disappear
Chapter 184: Wishful Thinking

Chapter 184: Wishful Thinking

The next day, Rayen and the others received a notification in their systems.

Having just finished his breakfast, Rayen flinched the moment he felt his phone buzz across the layers of wrappers that bound it. He let out a burp and then grabbed the phone to unwrap it.

The others from his former team, Seven Flowers, stared puzzled at the black contraband in his hand, their gazes repeatedly switching from their own phone towards Rayen’s.

Yeo Haru couldn’t help but ask, "Why did you wrap your phone like that?"

"A protective measure," Rayen simply said, proceeding to unlock his screen.

However, Yeo Haru didn’t understand what he meant by "protective measure". Why did he even have to protect his phone? From what?

Rayen was greeted by a message.

[You’ve been selected as a member of Team 1. Please head to the practice room as soon as you can.]

Used with Rayen’s weird antiques, Adrian was the only one who remained unfazed from the team. He read the message on his screen.

"You got your team number?" Adrian asked, glancing at everyone at the table.

He was also eyeing each of their plates to see if anyone was using their phones with unfinished meals. Fortunately, there was none.

Yeo Haru was the first one to respond. "Yeah. I was assigned to Team 2. What’s yours?"

Adrian nodded in satisfaction. Not because of Yeo Haru’s answer but because of how disciplined the team he once led was.

Yeo Haru was oblivious to this fact, though.

"What team are you?" Yeo Haru asked.

"One," Adrian answered.

Rayen’s lips twitched upon hearing it.

’Him again?’

Adrian noticed his reaction. "You on 1 too?"

Only nodding in response, Rayen wrapped the phone back with its bubble wrap.

"Too bad. We’re not on the same team," Yeo Haru exclaimed with a slight pout on his lips.

"Me too..." Xu Jiji echoed.

Yeo Haru turned to him. "What ’you too’? What’s your team number?"

"I’m on Team 2."

Hearing that, Yeo Haru grumbled in his mind.

’Him again?!’

Xu Jiji, however, innocent to Yeo Haru’s silent complaints, sadly set aside his phone. "I want to be on Team 1."

Iris, with pursed lips, also joined in on the conversation. "I’m on Team 1."

That made Xu Jiji even more sad.

Rayen chuckled wryly. He watched the two kids, Yeo Haru and Xu Jiji, with worried eyes.

They still couldn’t get along well. Without Adrian, Iris and Rayen’s supervision, will these two be fine on their own?

They would know in a few days. But right now, they could only worry about their own team.

With that, everyone from the former Team Seven Flowers headed together to the second floor practice room. They separated only when they entered through the entrance door.

Rayen, Adrian and Iris found themselves in the same room as expected. However, they weren’t the first ones there.

There, two people were already waiting for the rest of the team to gather.

The moment Adrian laid his eyes on one of them, he stiffened in place. The two inside also noticed the newly arrived presence, glancing toward their direction.

One of them was Liam, and the other one was...

"Ara," Adrian called, his voice a little bit weak.

Rayen’s brow raised.

’Something fishy... Something fishy...’

However, it was not the time to inquire about it. They still had to wait for three more people. Rayen knew because there was a counter beside the entrance.

Heading toward Liam, Rayen sat beside him.

"Yo, we’re teammates again," he greeted.

Liam nodded. "Yeah."

Silence.

Rayen really didn’t know what to say now. After Liam got into an accident outside, they never had the chance to properly talk once again.

It was strange.

Once, they were so close that no words were needed for them to communicate. Now, they were too estranged, it was hard to find a common topic to talk about.

However, Rayen really couldn’t bear the silence. He spoke first.

"Are you worried?"

Liam didn’t respond right away. Rayen glanced at his side and saw him dazedly contemplating the answer.

"I am. But it doesn’t matter."

"Why?"

Another silence from Liam. Rayen could only wait for his answer, so his mouth remained shut.

"I..." Finally, Liam opened his mouth. "... took my life before. You also know it."

"So, you’re willing to finally talk about it?" Rayen probed.

Liam laughed. "No."

Sigh.

"Okay."

Rayen thought there would be another silence to follow his words, but Liam unexpectedly said more.

"I took my life before," Liam started, repeating his words earlier. "That’s why I think... If I get a chance to debut and live a second life, I’ll be thankful. If I don’t... it just means I don’t deserve a second chance."

"....."

’Okay, I admit, I really don’t know what to say about that. Why did you even take your life in the first place?’

Liam glanced at him. "But you."

’What?’

Rayen raised his brows in inquiry.

"You need to debut."

A smirk appeared at the corner of Rayen’s lips. There was no need to say that. It was his intention all along. No matter what, he would debut.

Liam wasn’t done talking yet, though.

"Your time was cut short. That’s why you need to debut. There were so many things you still ought to do."

’Your time was cut short...’

The words repeated in Rayen’s mind.

By those words... Was Liam indirectly saying that he was killed, then?

"There’s just one thing I’d like to happen one last time, though," Liam said, cutting off Rayen’s thoughts.

Rayen opened his mouth. "What?"

"I’d like to perform one last time with the three of us. You, me and Jared."

A chuckle left Rayen’s throat. "How can that be? We’re already dead."

"Well, yeah. It’s just wishful thinking though," Liam said with a sad glint in his eyes.

’Wishful thinking, huh?’

"But it’s my wish too," Rayen said, looking back at Liam. "That’s why you have to debut too. If we ever debut, let’s invite Jared for a collab."

After that conversation, the wide gulf between the two of them seemed to have lessened.

Just as they stopped talking, the entrance of the practice studio flung open. Everyone’s head turned toward its direction.

’Are the rest finally here?’

However, only a frantic voice entered from the door, reverberating throughout the whole room.

"Help!"

The five people in the room stood up at the same time. They all headed toward the entrance, finally seeing whose voice it was.

"Nana?" Rayen exclaimed, recognizing her. "What happened?"

Nana only glanced back at him, her eyes wide in panic. "Help. A-a-a fight... They’re fighting!"
