Lillian fidgeted in her seat, looking across the table she was sitting at. She stared at the mother, who smiled at her with her eyes closed. She grumbled and waited for the food to be brought out.

And eventually, it was.

Marionette left the kitchen and entered the living room. In both arms, she held their meals on top of plates, and the third held in a dark, shadowy arm that stretched out from her back.

She approached her mother from behind, placing it in front of her.

It was also where Lillian was able to get a good look at it.

It was a steak with a side of greens.

Lillian tilted her head at this sight. Marionette seemed to be rather fond of making this particular dish. Then, she smiled wryly:

'Or... This could be the only dish she knows how to make.'

Lillian watched as Marionette made her way around the table, moving behind her. Her eyes stared at the plate placed before her. As she was about to thank the Assassin, she shivered.

Marionette, having her face right about Lillian's left ear, playfully blew air into it before quickly seating herself beside the girl.

Lillian, quickly covering her ear with a surprised blush, twisted her head towards the Assassin. Her intense gaze on the woman's face only brought a smirk to their face.

Veronica, who had been watching this brief interaction between the two, held her fingers above her mouth, muttering:

"Oh my~... How close you two are..."

Lillian drew her attention back towards her mother before shyly half-turning away. She grumbled, unable to refute her statement. In fact, she was rather proud of how close she was to the Assassin.

Marionette, turning her attention towards Lillian's mother, nodded strongly, "Yes. We are." She said in a straightforward manner.

She then gestured towards the meal before the woman.

"Please do help yourself. And sorry for the wait, I didn't expect to make three tonight."

Veronica shook her head, raising her hand to lower Marionette's worry.

"No need to worry about it, my dear... I'm actually impressed you could cook another in such a short amount of time."

After saying this, she started cutting through her steak. Once finished, she pulled it apart into a cross-section, revealing a beautiful pink centre of the meat.

It was medium-rare.

Lillian's eyes drifted towards the Assassin, her eyes blinking as she thought:

'What did you do this time?'

She wasn't sure how, but Marionette seemed to always pull some random move to suddenly make things look appetising. It certainly worked on her "apple pie", and she was sure it worked on the steak as well.

But.

She had to remind herself that the woman had indeed improved her skills since the beginning of this year. It was edible... to a degree, unlike—again—her apple pie.

"This is delicious~!"

Lillian widened her eyes slightly, watching as her mother held her right cheek as she chewed the slice of steak she placed into her mouth.

She then turned down to her own plate. Was it as good as her mother was making it out to be?

Overcome with curiosity and expectancy, she cut into the steak and placed a slice into my mouth. The sauce tasted great with its smoky flavours...

However...

'The steak is the problem!'

The steak was incredibly salty and tough whilst also having a sort of... gamey taste... Could their steak even have this taste, to begin with!?

She had nailed the steak perfectly last time but botched the sauce. But now she nailed the sauce but botched the steak? Wasn't this completely in reverse?!

Marionette, looking towards Lillian's mother and finding her enjoying her cooking, nodded.

"I'm glad you found it to your liking, Miss Arius." She spoke, her voice indifferent and her expression stoic.

However, upon closer look...

Lillian, having turned her attention to the Assassin's face, could notice a slight glimmer of pride well up inside the woman's red eyes.

She sighed, smiling.

'Welp... As long as she's happy. I don't really care how it tastes.'

She then watched as the Assassin turned to her, asking the exact same question.

Lillian gave a faint smile.

"I love the sauce. Just a little bit more practice, and you could make the steak itself heavenly."

Marionette blinked at her before smiling faintly as well.

"I see..."

The three then began to eat, cleaning their plate of meat, sauce, and greens. And once they finished, Veronica opened her mouth:

"So~! How did you two meet? Please don't hide any of the tiny details~..."

Placing her knife and fork down on her plate, Lillian raised an eyebrow at her question.

"How did we meet? Uhh... Well, funnily enough, we lived inside the same apartment complex."

"Eh? The one that we sent you to live in?"

"Yeah that one."

Lillian nodded, and right as she was about to continue, she felt something land on her lap—something stroking her thigh.

She froze for a moment, quickly glancing down at the hand situated subtly on her lap. She shot the Assassin a glaring look at what she was doing.

Marionette, noticing her stare, smiled softly, quickening her stroking.

"And what next, Lillian? You shouldn't leave your mother waiting for more."

Lillian's face twitched at her words, feeling her hand grope her thigh. In retaliation, she shot her hand out to the woman's thigh as well, giving back the same treatment.

Marionette didn't seem to be in any way bothered by her intimate gesture. Instead, she just moved her other hand over on top of the Rabbit's and kept it in place.

Lillian saw this and sighed, finding no way she could win against the woman. She then went on to recount the sort of things that led up to their inevitable relationship.

Throughout this, her mother interjected several times, especially the part where they entered their 2nd Trial, which caused her to gasp worriedly a few times.

Lillian smiled at her eagerness, but her face twitched at a certain hand being rather bold on her leg, even going to snake under her skirt.
