I Was Kidnapped By The Strongest Guild -
Chapter 250: Afraid of Dogs
The slowly approaching spider looked like a scene from a horror movie.
Without realizing it, I hid behind Encia.
She was the biggest and strongest among us.
"G-Grrr..."
I tried to threaten the spider while peeking out from behind Encia.
Why did this wild energy keep coming out?
The instincts of beast-kin were unpredictable.
"King! Threaten it more scary-like!"
Levinas shouted while hiding behind Encia like me.
I peeked out from Encia's right side, while Saebyeok peeked out from her left."Won't the spider get angry if I threaten it more...?"
"Wha! Then threaten it less scary-like...!"
"W-Well..."
It didn't seem like my threats were having any effect anyway.
Wouldn't it be better if someone else did it?
I glanced at Sophia.
Sophia, who had been clearing her throat, stepped behind us.
"Sophia...?"
"I'm sorry I can't be of help. Even I find spiders... uncomfortable..."
Sophia's face turned red.
She seemed embarrassed about showing such an uncool side as an adult.
But being afraid of spiders isn't something to be ashamed of at all.
I quickly tried to comfort Sophia.
"It's okay. I know how you feel."
"That's wight! Spiders are scawy!"
Levinas comforted Sophia, following my lead.
As for Saebyeok...
Where did Saebyeok go?
I looked around and then up.
I found Saebyeok sitting on top of Encia's head in a cat-like pose.
"Hiss!"
She was threatening the spider in her unique cat-like way.
It was a real threat, unlike mine.
Seeing Saebyeok's brave appearance gave me courage.
"G-Grrr..."
I joined Saebyeok in threatening the spider.
Levinas also wildly swung the foxtail grass in her hand.
Surely this was enough of a warning?
Just as I swallowed hard, the spider started charging towards us at high speed.
"Waaah!"
Our screams mixed together.
Sophia raised her cane to smash the spider, and Encia drew her sword.
It was a life-or-death situation that would end with someone closing their eyes.
At that moment, someone came running through the bushes.
"Meow meow!"
It was Seol's voice.
Seol came running at a speed unthinkable for a young cat and rammed into the spider.
"Eek!"
The spider made a strange noise as it rolled on the ground.
It couldn't get back up and just waved its legs in the air.
"Seol!"
"Meow!"
Seol looked at us bravely.
Seol ran around the spider, meowing.
It seemed like Seol was subduing the spider in its own way.
"Seol, you're amazing."
I said that, but I couldn't approach Seol.
I was afraid the spider might get up at any moment.
The others seemed to feel the same way, maintaining their positions.
"Meow meow!"
"Huh? Really?"
"Meow!"
"You're not lying?"
"Meow meow!"
I had a conversation with Seol.
Curious about our conversation, Sophia tapped my shoulder.
"What did Seol say?"
"Seol says the spider apologized."
"...I don't think spiders are intelligent enough to communicate like that."
"Hmm... you're right..."
No matter how smart a spider is, it can't communicate with people.
But wait, aren't cats not supposed to be able to communicate either?
Sophia seemed to have the same doubt as she crossed her arms, deep in thought.
"This might be your ability after all, Gyeoul."
"My ability?"
"Yes, I'm not sure of the details, but didn't you attract the Giftgiver last time too?"
Levinas could handle plants.
Maybe I had the ability to handle animals?
I wasn't sure.
For now, I decided to deal with the spider in front of us.
"You really apologized?"
"Eek eek!"
The spider waved its legs.
For some reason, I could understand that it meant yes.
"Seol, help it up."
"Meow!"
Seol used his head to flip the spider over.
I was worried the spider might attack again, but it just rubbed its front legs together.
I could tell it meant thank you.
"You won't bother us again, right?"
"Eek!"
The spider shook its body lightly and approached me.
It didn't seem to have any intention to attack, but I was still scared.
"A-Ahem."
"The spider's coming!"
Everyone except me stepped aside.
So it was just me and the spider face to face.
"My clothes...?"
"Eek eek!"
"O-Okay..."
The spider climbed up my body.
Since I was only wearing a one-piece dress, the spider's body touched my bare thighs.
"Ugh..."
It was scary.
Really scary.
I was trembling when the spider, now on my clothes, started spitting out spider silk.
"...!"
The spider used its silk to patch up the holes and tears in my clothes.
When I touched the spider silk, it felt a bit sticky.
'But it's quite sturdy.'
It was a special spider after all.
I wondered if we were friends now.
I stroked the back of the spider that had climbed up to my shoulder.
"Eeeek!"
The spider danced happily.
It was kind of cute now that it was behaving.
---
---
The spider's name was Kkamang.
It decided to live in the tent from now on.
I couldn't take it home because my family was afraid of it.
"Wow."
Kkamang repaired the tent with its spider silk.
It also caught bugs that were after the vegetables with its web.
I thought about how I'd made a good friend.
While thinking that, I pondered something else.
It was about my ability.
'Sophia said it was my ability.'
Were intelligent animals drawn to me?
Or did animals that formed a bond with me become intelligent?
I felt like I needed to experiment.
'Are there any other animals around...?'
I perked up my ears and looked around.
I sniffed the air, searching for traces of animals.
'This is...'
The sound of a large four-legged animal.
The panting sound suggested it was a big dog.
Among the sounds were also familiar footsteps.
"Ah...!"
It was Choi Jinhyuk's footsteps and those of a large four-legged animal.
The panting sound suggested it was a dog.
They must be out for a walk.
I quickly ran towards the direction of the two.
Saebyeok and Levinas followed behind me.
"Oh."
Choi Jinhyuk waved when he saw us.
The dog also wagged its tail to greet us.
It was the golden-haired dog we had seen before.
"Doggy...!"
Surprised by the large dog, Levinas hid behind me.
Her small body was trembling.
"It's okay. He won't bite."
Choi Jinhyuk calmed down the excited dog.
Following the command, the dog sat down and just wagged its tail.
"Is the doggy nice...?"
"Yeah. Very nice."
"Mmm..."
Despite being told it was nice, Levinas still regarded the dog warily.
It seemed she needed more time.
I patted Levinas's back reassuringly and approached the dog.
"Um, can I try something with the dog?"
"You want to play with Jango?"
"The dog's name is Jango?"
"Yeah."
So the dog's name was Jango.
After remembering the name, I shook my head at Choi Jinhyuk.
"Not playing, I want to train it."
"Train it?"
"Yes. I think I might have an ability to handle animals."
"Oh... that's amazing."
"Yeah... but I'm not sure if it's a real ability."
That's why I needed to practice.
Choi Jinhyuk seemed to understand and handed me Jango's leash.
"How are you going to handle it?"
"Umm..."
Good question.
How should I handle it?
I just stared at the leash in my hand.
"King! Tell it to become your minion!"
"Minion?"
"Yeah!"
Levinas said from behind my back where she was hiding.
It seemed she wanted to make Jango a minion because she was scared of him.
The wording was a bit harsh, but I decided to try it anyway.
I raised my finger and gave an order to Jango.
"Jango, from now on you're my minion."
"Woof!"
"! The doggy just said 'King'!"
"Woof! Woof!"
"Eeeek!"
Levinas widened her horned rabbit eyes at the dog's typical barking sound.
It was just normal barking though.
Just as I was about to tell Levinas the truth, Jango raised his front paws.
Standing on his hind legs, Jango was taller than me.
The panting dog suddenly started licking my face.
My face was covered in slobber, which felt gross.
"Ugh."
I wanted to push Jango away, but he was too strong.
All I could do was squint my eyes and tilt my head back.
"H-Help..."
I couldn't speak properly because my face was being licked.
Beside me, Levinas was stomping her feet.
"King! Did the doggy become your minion?!"
"N-No, I don't think so..."
Jango was panting and showing affection with his large body.
He threw himself at me and licked me all over.
I knew he wasn't a bad dog, but this was really scary.
I could understand why cats are afraid of dogs now.
The intimidation from his size was no joke.
"Kiiiing!"
Realizing I was in danger, Levinas lay down on Jango's back.
Jango seemed to think this was some kind of game.
With Levinas on his back, Jango started spinning in circles like a dog chasing its tail.
He spun quickly, not seeming to mind the weight at all.
"Waaah."
Levinas's eyes were spinning.
I had to save her.
Using my quick reflexes, I clung to Jango's back.
"Pant pant."
Even with two people on his back, Jango didn't tire and kept spinning.
How could a normal dog handle the weight of two people?
As my eyes were spinning, I thought to myself.
Maybe something about me was enhancing the animals?
My head was too dizzy to think beyond that.
"Waaah."
"Waaah."
And so, Levinas and I spun around on Jango's back for a long time.
We kept spinning until Choi Jinhyuk stopped us.
The world was swaying back and forth.
My eyes were spinning.
