Chapter 919: Chapter 917: Better to See Fewer Outsiders (1)

Song Youman looked nervously at Han Zhijin after the nurse’s words.

Han Zhijin, still holding the baby whose features hadn’t fully developed yet, thought the nurse was simply being complimentary and smiled silently.

Seeing Han Zhijin’s reaction, Song Youman knew he hadn’t taken the nurse’s words to heart, and she secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Yet, a sense of unspoken sadness surged in her, worried that the nurse would continue to speak carelessly. So, she made an excuse and sent the nurse out.

Soon, the hospital room was left with just the two adults and one child. The baby nestled comfortably in Han Zhijin’s arms, continuously sticking out its tongue and moving its tiny hands and feet.

After watching Han Zhijin and the baby for a moment, Song Youman spoke, breaking the silence, "I heard from the nurse that it was you who brought me to the hospital that day, and... you also donated a lot of blood for me, even going into shock yourself. Thank you."

All Han Zhijin’s attention, which was on the little one in his arms, faltered at the words "thank you," and his fingertips involuntarily trembled.

When had Youman ever spoken to him so formally? Or perhaps, when had the distance between him and Youman grown so vast, even greater than that between coworkers?

Since he had stopped visiting the apartment complex they had bought together, just a few short months had passed, and yet they had grown so distant.

They had known each other for twenty years, twenty years to develop a relationship where they could talk about anything... It turned out to be so difficult for two people to come together, yet so easy to drift apart.

Han Zhijin maintained a slight smile on his lips, staring at the infant in his arms. After a long silence, he finally looked up and replied, "It’s okay, it’s what should be done."

He paused, then added, "I should be the one to apologize. Your situation was critical that day, and I... just pretended to be your husband for a while, please don’t mind."

Song Youman responded, "You were just being kind, trying to save me."

Such a formal reply left Han Zhijin at a loss for words.

Song Youman had never thought that one day she and Han Zhijin would have such a polite and awkward conversation. Seeing that he remained silent, she didn’t speak further.

The hospital room fell quiet again, as both of them, each lost in their own thoughts, watched the baby.

Before long, the baby in Han Zhijin’s arms suddenly cried, leaving him flustered. Song Youman reached out her hand, "Give him to me."

Han Zhijin carefully handed over the baby. Song Youman took the baby and placed him in the crib. After checking, she discovered the baby had wet himself and changed his diaper.

Newborns have limited waking time, and soon after Song Youman had finished changing the diaper, the baby quickly fell asleep.

Song Youman covered the baby with a small blanket, then leaned back against her bed.

Searching for something to say, Han Zhijin asked, "Have you thought of a name for the baby?"

"Yes, I have," after a slight pause, Song Youman added, "Muxi."

"Surnamed Song, or surnamed..." Han Zhijin couldn’t bring himself to say He Che’s last name.

Knowing he was going to say "He," Song Youman’s lips tightened slightly, "Surnamed Song."

Han Zhijin nodded but said nothing.

Song Youman watched the baby for a moment and just as she was about to say, "The baby has nothing to do with He Che," her words were interrupted by the ringing of Han Zhijin’s phone in his pocket.

Perhaps worried about waking the baby, Han Zhijin quickly pulled out his phone. As he turned off the sound, Song Youman caught a glimpse of the caller ID on Han Zhijin’s phone screen—
