Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Tyrant Flower and Small White Flower (2)_1
While Xia Wan’an was eating, she accidentally knocked the soup spoon from the edge of her plate onto the table.
The utensils for the soup spoon were on the half of the table where Han Zhijin and Han Jingnian were sitting.
It was impossible for Xia Wan’an to command Han Jingnian, so when she wanted to drink her soup, she naturally called out to Han Zhijin, "Han Zhijin, can you get me a soup spoon, please."
Han Zhijin responded with an "Ah," and went to get the soup spoon.
However, before he could even reach out his hand, Han Jingnian had already pulled out a spoon and handed it to Xia Wan’an.
Seeing his uncle had already handed Xia Wan’an a spoon, Han Zhijin lowered his head and continued eating.
Xia Wan’an looked at the hand in front of her, as beautiful as if it were from a cartoon, and was taken aback for a moment, not taking the spoon.
Seeing that the spoon in his hand had not been taken, Han Jingnian turned his head to look at her.
The girl held her chopsticks in one hand, her other hand resting on the table, staring at the spoon without reaction.
Han Jingnian slightly furrowed his brows, his gaze falling on the spoon. He looked at it for two seconds, then reached out his hand again, placing the spoon directly into her soup bowl.
The spoon hit the soup bowl, making a clear sound.
Xia Wan’an came back to her senses, didn’t look at Han Jingnian next to her, only politely said "Thank you," then picked up a bit of her vegetable and continued eating.
Until the end of dinner, Xia Wan’an didn’t glance once at the soup bowl beside her, nor took another sip of soup.
As soon as dinner was over, Han Zhijin obediently went to the study to work on a planning case.
The grandmother called Xia Wan’an and Han Jingnian to accompany her for a walk in the courtyard.
All the flowers and plants in the courtyard were tended to by Lu Yangui. It was summer time, when all the flowers were in full bloom. The garden was filled with colors, and the slightly cool evening breeze carried along with it waves of floral scent.
During the walk, the grandmother was the one talking most of the time, Xia Wan’an occasionally chimed in with a few words. Han Jingnian remained silent throughout.
After a lap around the large courtyard, the grandmother stopped and said, "You young people, should walk more, my old bones can’t handle it, I need to go rest."
"Grandma, I’ll accompany you," Xia Wan’an stopped walking, intending to go inside with her grandmother.
"You don’t need to accompany me. I’m going to go take a bath, you and Jingnian, you two youngsters, take another lap..." The grandmother, as if afraid Xia Wan’an might say something else, quickly called for Zhang’s mother.
Before long, leaving Han Jingnian and Xia Wan’an outside, the grandmother went into the house, assisted by Zhang’s mother, leaning on her cane.
With the grandmother gone, the atmosphere between Han Jingnian and Xia Wan’an became a lot more silent.
Xia Wan’an, of course, knew the grandmother was deliberately creating chances for her and Han Jingnian to be alone. Her grandmother had done this many times before, but every time she left, either Han Jingnian would find an excuse to go, or he would ignore her altogether and become busy with his work on his phone.
At the beginning, she was happy to have those fleeting moments of interaction with him. She gathered her courage and took the initiative to speak to him, but he never paid her any mind. Later on, she rarely initiated conversations with him. Even later, she would make an excuse to leave before he said anything, leaving the moments the grandmother carefully planned for them to be alone ending before they even began.
