Chapter 607: Chapter 607 - Five Minutes Are Up (1)_1

The conversation didn’t linger on this topic for too long before it switched to a new one.

After dinner, Xia Wan’an accompanied her grandmother for a stroll around the old Han Family house garden. When Zhang Ma assisted the grandmother in taking a bath, Xia Wan’an knocked on Han Zhijin’s door.

It took a while before Han Zhijin opened the door from inside. Despite the window being open, Xia Wan’an still sensed a faint smell of smoke as she stepped inside. She furrowed her brows slightly, "Zhijin, have you been dealing with some annoying stuff recently?"

Han Zhijin didn’t reply, he just slouched on the sofa devoid of any notable demeanor.

Xia Wan’an stared at Han Zhijin for a while and was just about to speak when Han Zhijin’s bedroom door was suddenly pushed open with great force. Xia Wan’an and Han Zhijin both startled and looked over. It was Han Jingnian, dressed in a black suit, stepping boldly into Han Zhijin’s bedroom.

"Why are you here?" Xia Wan’an asked, recovering from her surprise.

Han Jingnian glanced coldly at his older nephew before turning his attention to Xia Wan’an. With eyebrows and tone both unnaturally calm, he said: "I’m here to pick you up."

"The grandmother has a driver here, he can drop me home..." Xia Wan’an mumbled softly, then added: "But you might have to wait five minutes. I need to talk to Zhijin..."

Zhijin? Why does he just get to be Han Jingnian?

Han Jingnian, facing Xia Wan’an’s words, remained composed. But when he glanced at Han Zhijin, his eyes flashed a hint of sharpness.

"You talk, I’ll wait for you."

As Han Jingnian responded gently to Xia Wan’an’s words, his gaze on Xia Wan’an became as tranquil as before.

Xia Wan’an responded with an "Oh," then looked straight at Han Jingnian. Seeing him standing without any intention of leaving, she glanced at the door: "Then you should step out. How can I talk to Han Zhijin with you here?"

What could be so secret that she needs to talk behind his back?

Han Jingnian let his eyes fall, then in the next second sat down on the couch next to them, pulled earphones out of his pocket, stuck them in his ears, opened his laptop, and started working: "Can you talk now?"

Xia Wan’an: "..." So he is trying to monitor her conversation with Han Zhijin?

Had he gotten that wrong? The other party was his own nephew! His own nephew! Was he really so petty?!

Xia Wan’an looked at Han Jingnian who had completely immersed himself in his work, she kept silent for a while with a mix of helplessness and speechlessness. Then she turned to look at Han Zhijin and continued where they’d left off: "Zhijin, you haven’t been dumped, have you? Is that why you’ve been so strange lately?"

Han Zhijin was still keeping silent, but his hand casually shoved in his pocket was quietly closing into a fist.

Han Jingnian, noticing from his peripheral vision that Han Zhijin hadn’t replied to Xia Wan’an’s words, sent him a sharp look.

Forced to respond, Han Zhijin opened his mouth: "No, how could I get dumped!"

"Then why have you been acting like this lately? And why on earth did you tell my sister-in-law and grandmother out of the blue that you want to arrange a marriage? Are you serious about this? You better not be messing with them..."

Han Jingnian glanced at Han Zhijin again.

Han Zhijin immediately said: "Auntie Xia, even if you gave me a hundred times the courage, I wouldn’t dare to play with them. I just feel that at my age, it’s about time I got married. I swear, Auntie Xia, nothing distressing has happened to me..."

"Really?" Xia Wan’an asked again.

Just as her words fell, Han Jingnian, who had been silent all along, finally spoke: "Five minutes are up."

Xia Wan’an: "..." Seriously? He really meant just five minutes, not a second more?

Xia Wan’an: "Han Jingnian, can’t you show some concern for your nephew? He’s your blood relative, is this how you act as an uncle?!"

Han Jingnian, accused by Xia Wan’an, stayed silent for a few seconds, then turned his gaze on Han Zhijin and gave him a thorough once-over, then spoke in a light tone: "Your hair’s getting in your eyes. Go and get it trimmed tomorrow."

Then, he turned his attention to Xia Wan’an: "I’ve shown concern. Can we leave now?"
