Chapter 60: Chapter 60: The Most Drunken Wretch Tonight (2)_1

Han Jingnian tossed his phone onto the table and went to take a shower.

Afterward, he laid on his bed and closed his eyes to sleep.

The bedroom was very quiet, and the warm glow of the bedside sleep lamp enveloped the room with a cozy ambiance.

He lay still on the bed as if he had genuinely fallen asleep.

However, half an hour later, he turned over. Fifteen minutes after that, he turned again. Ten more minutes passed, and he threw his pillow onto the floor. Five minutes later, he got up and went to the bathroom. After laying back down, three minutes passed, and he began to toss and turn restlessly again. After turning so many times that he had lost count, he suddenly sat up and picked up his phone.

His first thought was to call her friends, but after unlocking the screen, he realized he didn’t know who her friends were.

Han Zhijin had asked him over the phone if he knew her friends.

At that moment he didn’t think much of it, but now, stricken with unease, that question seemed like a thief that had stealthily stolen his heart.

He could only remember that she probably had two close girlfriends, but as their names, surnames, where they lived, what they looked like - he didn’t know at all, not a single impression.

She was his wife, the girl he had brought home two years ago. Her name was Xia Wan’an, and that was all...nothing more.

Reflecting on this, his understanding of her seemed tragically minimal.

Han Jingnian dazedly browsed through his phone for a long while before finally locating Xia Wan’an’s phone number.

...

At Song Youman’s house.

Ai Jiang’s phone was constantly vibrating in her pocket. She quietly declined the calls, but new ones kept coming in.

After a dozen or so calls, she couldn’t stand it any longer. Raising her head to address Xia Wan’an and Song Youman, she said, "I’m going to the restroom."

"Okay, okay."

Xia Wan’an and Song Youman echoed in response.

Ai Jiang meekly stood up and headed to the restroom.

Once the door was closed, she took out her phone, glanced at the caller ID, and answered. Before the person on the other end could speak, she interjected: "He Che, how many times have I told you not to call me when I’m with my wealthy friends... what could possibly happen? They all have cars. There’s no way I could be in danger, and besides, this is Beijing, you don’t need to worry so much... it’s not you, it’s them. One of them just got dumped. I don’t feel comfortable revealing that I have a boyfriend. I’m afraid it might upset them... Alright, I’ll talk to you later..."

After hanging up, fearing that He Che might call again, Ai Jiang blocked his number. Only after washing her hands and pretending to have used the toilet did she walk out of the restroom.

Unaware of what Ai Jiang had just done in the restroom, Xia Wan’an and Song Youman, on seeing her return, happily invited her to continue drinking.

All three girls didn’t have much of a tolerance. By the time empty bottles piled around them, all were ridiculously drunk.

The drunken Song Youman was singing wildly, Ai Jiang was holding an empty bottle and giggling foolishly against the wall, while Xia Wan’an spun once around the room, then curled up on a blanket belonging to Song Youman’s pet kitten, ignored the kitten’s intense glare, and fell asleep.

Not long after closing her eyes, her phone rang.

Xia Wan’an fished out her phone and, in her blurry-eyed state, answered without even clearly recognising the incoming call display, "Hello?"

There was a pause on the other end of the line.

Yawning, Xia Wan’an was about to speak again when she heard a male voice from the phone, "Where’s the water card for the house?"

"Um..." Between the alcohol and fatigue, Xia Wan’an’s brain was unable to process thoughts properly. She groggily replied, "When I remember, I’ll tell you in my dreams."

Having said that, Xia Wan’an abruptly hung up the call.
