Chapter 598: Chapter 598: Good, Let’s Take a Bath (2)_1

Hearing Han Jingnian’s unusually verbose words, Xia Wan’an gave him an "Mmm" and then shut the bathroom door. Tears began to fall uncontrollably.

In the past, she dreamed of him caring for her. Now, she was terrified of his kindness... because the kinder he was to her, the sadder, guiltier, and more remorseful she felt.

Xia Wan’an soaked in the bathtub, each thought tugging at her heart as if forcefully ripping it apart. The pain became unbearable—she clutched her chest, buried her face in her hands, and began to sob unrestrainedly.

Half an hour later, seeing the still unmoving bathroom door, Han Jingnian deduced that there was no sign of Xia leaving the bathroom. He approached the door and knocked, "An’an?"

There was no response.

Han Jingnian swiftly pushed the door open. Xia Wan’an, dressed in her pajamas, was standing in front of the sink drying her hair."

Presumably, the whirring sound of the dryer had drowned out his voice, which was why she hadn’t heard him.

Xia Wan’an turned her head to glance at Han Jingnian and then switched off the hairdryer, "What’s the matter?"

Han Jingnian suppressed the anxiety that had risen to his throat, shook his head, "Nothing. The meal is ready. It won’t be as delicious if it gets cold."

After uttering a couple of "Oh" sounds in acknowledgement, Xia Wan’an put aside the hairdryer and stepped out of the bathroom.

Seeing her hair still damp, Han Jingnian’s eyebrows furrowed slightly. He took two forward steps to block her path, reached past her to pick up the hairdryer, and started to diligently dry her hair. Only then did he let her go.

Han Jingnian had cooked a bowl of egg noodles and prepared a bowl of brown sugar ginger soup.

Xia Wan’an had not eaten anything since noon. Despite this, she felt no hunger, still, she forced down what Han Jingnian had cooked.

After Xia Wan’an finished eating, Han Jingnian tactfully took away the dishes to wash.

When he came out, Xia Wan’an was sitting on the sofa, clutching a pillow, staring blankly out the window, lost in her thoughts.

Han Jingnian obviously recognized that Xia Wan’an was troubled. Even though she hid her emotions well, he watched her for a while before he prepared a cup of hot milk and went to her, "Drink some milk. Then we can go sleep."

Xia Wan’an turned her head, smiling gently at him. She took the milk and, finding it to be at the right temperature, drank it all at once.

After Han Jingnian took the empty mug, he didn’t rush to get up and wash it. Instead, he looked at her for a while with a soft and attentive gaze, then spoke, "An’an, are you feeling upset?"

Xia Wan’an’s hands shook slightly, but she remained silent.

It was obvious that she was upset. Anyone could tell that something was bothering her given how she had unusually given the villa such a thorough cleaning....

Seeing Xia Wan’an’s silence, Han Jingnian spoke again. "Did something happen?"

Xia Wan’an moved her lips, but still said nothing.

He must have known about her health condition for quite a while, but chose not to tell her in order to avoid causing her any distress, right? If he knew that she was now aware of the whole truth, he would definitely be worried about her, wouldn’t he?

Han Jingnian could perceive from Xia Wan’an’s expression that she wanted to say something but was holding back. He did not press her. Instead, he reached out to lightly touch her hair, "It’s OK if you don’t want to talk about it. But if one day you do want to share, promise me you’ll tell me first... I’ll find a way to solve it."
