Zhang Te was sitting upright, holding his pen in a standard posture. He wrote each stroke carefully, like a primary school student doing his homework.

Zhang Te took almost three minutes to finish writing.

The moment he put down his pen, he stared at the two impeccably written words. It felt as though his heart was being prodded repeatedly by a sharp object, causing a sharp and bone-piercing pain.

He held his pen, gazing at the words "resignation letter" for a long time before finally starting to write the body of the resignation letter.

This time he wrote quickly, and as he wrote, his handwriting became increasingly sloppy. By the time he reached the latter part of the resignation letter, his hand holding the pen began to tremble slightly.

It took a great deal of effort for him to finish writing the resignation letter. When he was signing his name at the bottom right, he was already shaking so much that he could hardly hold the pen. Zhang Cheng, after finishing his resignation letter, seemed to have exhausted all his strength. He slouched onto his office chair.

The office was quiet. Other than him, there was no one. He quietly stared at that resignation letter for a long, long time before he blinked slightly and turned to gaze at the stars and lights outside the floor-to-ceiling window.

His throat felt choked up, sour and dry, and his eyes were somewhat swollen.

Soon, he retracted his gaze, his eyes turning red as they landed on the resignation letter again. Swiftly, he stuffed the letter into an envelope, rummaged for a document bag, got up, and entered Han Jingnian’s office.

He put the resignation letter under the document bag and placed it on Han Jingnian’s desk.

He didn’t leave immediately but stood in the large office, looking around. This was a place he once redecorated. Then he went to the bathroom, found a watering can, and watered all the plants in the office. He even took a towel and wiped off the thin layer of dust on the plant leaves.

By the time Zhang Te finished, it was two o’clock in the morning. As he left Han Jingnian’s office, he paused at the door before returning to his desk to tidy up some miscellaneous items. Then he got in an elevator and left the company.

Zhang Te didn’t go home but instead went to a shop next door, bought a large bag of beer, drove to the hospital, and found Xie Lin, who was busy writing a medical report in a brilliantly lit emergency office. "Come on, Dr. Xie, have a drink."

Facing a brazen Zhang Te who didn’t even knock on the door, Xie Lin frowned and said line by line, "Sorry, I have to be responsible for other people’s lives, so I can’t drink."

"Okay then," Zhang Te said nonchalantly as he sat down on the couch in Dr. Xie’s office. He took out a bottle of beer, popped the cap, and chugged down more than half the bottle before he spoke again, "You watch me drink."

Smelling the alcohol, Xie Lin frowned in distaste. He wanted to kick Zhang Te out, but in the end, he gave up and continued to write his report as if Zhang Te wasn’t there.

Zhang Te drank bottle after bottle of beer and threw the empty bottles around the room, "Hey, Dr. Xie, you swore off alcohol, cigarettes, and women. You are living like a Monk. Is it fun?"

"You neither swore off alcohol, cigarettes, nor women. Yet you still don’t have a girlfriend, do you?" Dr. Xie replied without looking up while continuing to write.
