Zhang Te thought that his mother had gone to the bathroom and casually called out, "Mom?"

Subconsciously, he took out his phone to call his mother, but his mother’s phone was ringing from the master bedroom.

His mother wasn’t home... and she didn’t even take her phone? That’s unusual.

Immediately after, a woman’s voice echoed from Zhang Te’s phone: "Chengcheng, why did you send people to take me to Thailand without consulting me?"

Zhang Te frowned and instinctively called out, "Mom." Before he could say anything else, the mechanical voice rang again: "Zhang Cheng, you’d better not call the police, nor try any other means in vain. Otherwise, I assure you that you won’t see your mother again."

Zhang Te held his phone tightly: "What the hell do you want?"

"You’ll find out what I want soon. I’d advise you not to waste your time here. If my men don’t see you within half an hour, I promise the next message you receive will bring bad news about your mother."

The person on the other end of the line seemed to ignore Zhang Te’s question and continued: "Remember what I just said. Don’t call the police or attempt futile resistance, unless you’re willing to gamble with your mother’s life."

With that, the call ended.

The incoming call was specially processed and encrypted through the network, so Zhang Te had no clue about its origin or number.

Infuriated, he glared at the "Unknown" caller ID on his screen. In the end, with a stern face, he picked up his car keys and left home.

In less than twenty minutes, Zhang Te parked his car in front of the KTV, as instructed. It seemed as if someone was waiting for him nearby. The immediate second he got out of the car, his phone rang — it was the same "Unknown" number. The call was answered, and the same mechanized voice reverberated: "After entering the KTV, please go to private room 3."

"Also, please do not hang up my call. I have more instructions for you."

Zhang Te, who had never been threatened like this before, walked into the KTV with a stiff face, headed for room 3 as directed.
