Chapter 382: Chapter 382 - I Advise You to Reflect (2)_1
Just as Xia Wan’an felt like all her teeth were about to fall out from being sour, her phone screen lit up again.
It was still a call from Han Jingnian, but this time, it was a video call.
Considering he hung up so promptly earlier, did he think she would pick up his call now?
Thinking this, Xia Wan’an picked up her phone, swiped the screen, and after a brief delay of three seconds, Han Jingnian’s face appeared on the screen.
The camera angle on Han Jingnian was looking up at him from below. Yet, even at this odd angle, his good looks were still pleasing to the eye on the video.
After staring at Han Jingnian’s face on her phone for about three seconds, Xia Wan’an finally asked, "What’s up?"
"Nothing," Han Jingnian replied, his phone shaking slightly in his hand.
Xia Wan’an wasn’t sure if it was intentional but in any case, his current surroundings came into her view as he moved his phone.
Since he was in America with the time difference, it was nighttime there. From the scene, it seemed like he was attending a private party. In the middle of the venue, there was a dance floor where numerous people were swaying to soft music.
Xia Wan’an was examining the scene on her screen when Han Jingnian’s voice came through, "Sorry, I turned down your invitation."
Even though Han Jingnian was speaking English, Xia Wan’an understood him perfectly.
Then a woman’s voice, one that Xia Wan’an recognized as the one who had just asked Han Jingnian to dance, piped up, "It’s okay."
After that, Han Jingnian clinked his glass against the lady’s and they moved apart. His face then reappeared on Xia Wan’an’s phone, "What color do you like? Black, white, or pink?"
"What’s up?" Xia Wan’an blinked in confusion as she saw Han Jingnian walked out of the banquet hall and standing at a quiet balcony-like location.
"Oh, just asking."
"Oh," Xia Wan’an paused, then asked, "can I only choose from those three colors?"
"Yeah."
"Then..." Xia Wan’an tilted her head to think, "White, I guess."
"Ok."
Han Jingnian was always a man of few words. When he would call Xia Wan’an while away on business trips, the conversations usually went like this. However, Xia Wan’an didn’t mind—she was used to it. Sometimes, she would initiate a new topic, "By the way, I have a trip to Hong Kong tomorrow. I won’t be back until next Thursday."
After saying that, Xia Wan’an added, "What about you? When are you coming back?"
"I..." Han Jingnian stumbled, stopping after just a word. Then, three seconds later, he continued, "What a coincidence—I’ll be in Hong Kong on Wednesday."
Xia Wan’an gasped in surprise, "Then when will you be back in Beijing?"
"Probably around Thursday as well."
Xia Wan’an let out an, "Oh." Just as she was considering whether she should ask to meet up with Han Jingnian, he spoke up from the video, "I’ll contact you once I arrive on Wednesday."
"Alright."
"..."
Xia Wan’an and Han Jingnian continued chatting sporadically for a while. It was only when Zhang Te came over to remind Han Jingnian that the banquet was over and he could return to the hotel that they ended the call.
Xia Wan’an put her phone down and entered the kitchen with her plate. It wasn’t until she was almost done washing her dishes that realization suddenly hit her.
Han Jingnian... had he put her on hold earlier to initiate a video call with her? And was he intentionally showing her his surroundings and talking to that lady, all in a subtle attempt to prove his innocence to her?
