Chapter 198: Chapter 198 She is His (2)_1
His eyebrows furrowed slightly as he scoured the entire house, failing to find her anywhere.
Han Jingnian returned to the bedroom and it wasn’t until he arrived at the bedside that he noticed her purse, which had been on the bedside table, was now missing.
So... during this short while he was out, she had left?
Han Jingnian sat down on the edge of the bed, and as his hand casually landed on the bed, his fingertips brushed against a damp spot.
A shudder ran through his body, and after a moment, his gaze shifted slowly towards the bed.
Where he placed his hand, there was a damp stain.
It was exactly where her head had lain... Just like how he suspected, she had indeed been crying...
Somewhat unexpectedly, he was reminded of her tear-streaked face the last time she cried. Her lashes were wet and trembling, her eyes were red, and the tears swirling within them were on the verge of falling, strenuously held back by her sheer will.
He had made her cry again... This was the second time he had made her cry... The last time she cried, he promised himself he wouldn’t make her cry again.
Almost as if an invisible hand had pierced through his chest and clutched his heart, Han Jingnian felt the throbbing pain and an unprecedented surge of panic.
Subconsciously, he pulled out his phone and dialed her number, but the call was answered with an emotionless, official female voice, "I’m sorry, the number you have dialed is switched off."
After calling several times and receiving the same automated message, Han Jingnian finally put down his phone.
Sitting stiffly by the bed for a while, he eventually got up and walked out of the bedroom.
Reaching the entrance, he remembered the takeaway he had bought, so he headed to the dining room, moved the food into a thermal container, switched his shoes, and walked out of the door.
He reckoned she had not been gone for long, perhaps she hadn’t left the complex. For the first time since he bought the house, he patrolled the large complex thoroughly.
By the time he returned home, two hours had elapsed and the house was as vacant as when he left it.
Standing somewhat disheartened at the entrance, he paused for a moment, then figured that she had probably gone out to clear her mind and might be back later.
So he moved to his study, switched on the computer intending to attend to some work. However, in front of the documents on the screen, he found himself frequently distracted, glancing towards the wall clock from time to time.
Half an hour passed...
An hour passed...
Two hours passed...
Before he knew it, it was already 6:30 in the evening, and the sky outside the window was gradually darkening.
The entrance to the living room was utterly still with no signs of her return.
When the night completely fell, he dialed Xia Wan’an’s number again to find it was still switched off.
Growing increasingly restless, he rose from his seat and walked from the study to the bedroom, then to the living room. After pacing around countless times and still failing to see Xia Wan’an return, he switched his shoes and decided to search for her himself.
But it wasn’t until he got to the parking garage, started his car, that he realized he knew precious little about her.
Where she liked to go, where she would stay when she felt down, who her friends were, where those friends lived - he was utterly clueless about it all.
