Chapter 1032: Chapter 1030: Every Work of Art Is My Child (2)
Han Qingqing’s eyes held a hint of surprise upon seeing the visitor.
Xia Wan’an: "Auntie."
"Do you need something from me?" Han Qingqing’s voice was soft and gentle as she smiled, as soothing as a spring breeze.
As she spoke, she moved her wheelchair aside with one hand, opening the door wider: "Come in and talk."
The living room was cluttered with oil paintings, and on the easel by the window, there was an unfinished piece.
All of the oil paintings had one thing in common: they all featured a woman in white, with a slender figure, but without a face. Her long hair flowed freely and her aura was somewhat reminiscent of Han Qingqing herself.
After brewing some tea and attending to Xia Wan’an and Lin Chen, Han Qingqing asked in her gentle voice, "So, what brings you here?"
Xia Wan’an nodded, still trying to gather her thoughts, when Han Qingqing’s pleasant voice entered her ears again: "Is it about Yixiao being beaten?"
Xia Wan’an had not expected Han Qingqing to bring up the subject on her own, and she looked at her with some surprise: "Auntie, do you know that Yixiao has been getting beaten all this time?"
Han Qingqing nodded, her eyes filled with a flowing sadness: "I know, it has always been like this over the years."
"Then why don’t you try to stop it, you could tell the matriarch, or you could tell Han Jingnian..."
"The matriarch? She allows me to live here, and that’s already the utmost tolerance she has for me. How could I have the face to go to her again... Besides, over the years, they’ve had difficulties of their own. Telling them would only add to the chaos. By not telling them, Yixiao and I can at least eke out a living..." Despite the helplessness and sorrow in her words, Han Qingqing managed to speak with a slight smile on her lips.
Xia Wan’an found herself at a loss for words in response to Han Qingqing’s remarks.
She was right, what would it change if she told them? Perhaps before she even could speak out, someone would have already been silenced without a trace.
"Then... Auntie, do you know who Q is? Or do you have any clues?"
Han Qingqing shook her head: "I don’t know. Every time he comes, he conceals his identity very well."
"..."
The conversation between Xia Wan’an and Han Qingqing continued for a while. Han Qingqing answered everything asked, but she was unable to provide any useful clues.
Xia Wan’an could tell that she would not get any more information from Han Qingqing, so she stood up to say goodbye.
Before leaving, Xia Wan’an glanced once more at the oil paintings scattered on the floor: "Auntie, did you paint all these?"
"Mhm, just to pass the time when I’m idle," said Han Qingqing, who happened to have an oil painting fall beside her wheelchair. She picked it up, then gazed at the figure of the woman in white on the canvas, her eyes softened with affection.
Observing the tender look in Han Qingqing’s eyes, Xia Wan’an spoke again: "It’s clear to see that Auntie holds these paintings very dear."
"Each piece is like my child," Han Qingqing said as she put down the painting in her hands and saw Xia Wan’an and Lin Chen out.
Concerned about Han Qingqing’s mobility, Xia Wan’an politely called out after stepping outside: "Auntie, please don’t see us out."
Han Qingqing smiled and bid "goodbye."
Xia Wan’an and Lin Chen also said their farewells and turned to leave. As they got into the car, Xia Wan’an glanced through the window at Han Qingqing, who was still at the villa’s entrance.
As the car engine started, a gust of wind lifted Han Qingqing’s skirt, and Xia Wan’an saw the crisscrossed whip scars on her legs... identical to the ones that Han Yixiao had from being beaten.
