Chapter 1001: Chapter 999: Brother, Shall We Make a Bet? (1)
The car came to a halt, and Xia Wan’an got out. As she closed the door, she told the driver there was no need to wait for her; he could leave now.
Once the driver turned the car around and left, Xia Wan’an walked up to the villa in the middle, entered the code. Pushing open the door, she had expected to find the long-unattended villa covered in a layer of dust, but to her surprise, the interior was remarkably clean, as if someone had been cleaning it daily.
Xia Wan’an stood dumbfounded for a moment before realizing what this implied. Instinctively, she rushed towards the back door of the villa.
Her small garden by Lin Lake, where she had planted various flowers and plants with her own hands, all grew with incredible vitality, even better than when she had taken care of them herself. The ground of the garden was damp; it seemed someone had come to tend to her garden in the past couple of days...
Xia Wan’an stared at the garden for a long time before pulling out her phone to send a message to Assistant Zhang Te: "The small garden dwelling, was it his idea?"
Despite her vague question, Assistant Zhang Te understood what she meant and quickly responded: "Yes, madam, after you left, President Han specifically arranged for someone to regularly clean and take care of the flowers and plants you raised..."
She knew it was his doing, but why did he do this...
As if Assistant Zhang Te anticipated her curiosity, he sent another message: "President Han mentioned, if one day you came back and everything was as usual, you would certainly be pleased."
Indeed, if he hadn’t left, she would have been utterly delighted by this scene, but now...
Xia Wan’an didn’t reply to Assistant Zhang Te’s message; she walked around the small garden and then entered the villa.
She always felt enveloped in a massive shroud of sorrow, from which there seemed to be no escape... perhaps never in this lifetime.
Sitting on the sofa, she zoned out aimlessly, and as night fell outside the window, she noticed the bag she had brought from the supermarket before visiting the cemetery. Besides the items she had placed in front of Han Jingnian’s tombstone, she had brought everything else back.
The bag was full of alcohol, and she had poured most of a bottle in front of his tombstone.
In fact, she rarely drank outside because she had some unsavory habits when drunk.
Before, the sight of alcohol would only remind her of her poor tolerance, but now, it brought back memories of when Chi Mu returned, on their wedding anniversary, and the scenes of her drunkenly tugging at his clothes and acting up...
Xia Wan’an couldn’t help but begin to resent Han Jingnian again; how carefree he was to have left just like that, burdening her with endless days as heavy as years.
With that thought, Xia Wan’an grabbed the opened bottle and began to drink.
When she picked out the alcohol at the supermarket, she hadn’t been very selective. There was baijiu, spirits, and even cocktails... Her alcohol tolerance was never good to begin with, and mixing drinks like this, it didn’t take her long to start feeling dizzy.
She rolled from the sofa to the floor, unaware, and kept pouring alcohol into her mouth as if it were water. Then she needed to use the bathroom. She got up from the floor, circled around the house again and again until finally finding the bathroom. After coming out, her steps were unsteady, and she wanted to get a glass of water from the dining room. However, in her dazed state, she ended up locking herself out of the villa.
