Chapter 49: A Way To Connect

Lianwu District had its association dedicated to protecting the local shopping district, fostering development, sharing information, and maintaining harmony among its tenants.

Despite having only about 35 shops, the community was tight-knit—more like a big family than a group of business rivals.

They called themselves Lianwu Commerce, and the head of the association was the elderly Wang Shouye.

He was even older than Mr. Wu, confined to a wheelchair, his frail hands resting in his lap. Nowadays, it was his son Wang Zhenhua who led most of the meetings.

Zhenhua was a calm man in his twenties, with a gentle face and a natural grace that made him popular with the ladies.

As he stood before the gathered tenants in their modest meeting hall, his father remained by his side, quietly observing.

"You all know the man and woman standing beside me today," Zhenhua began, gesturing toward them. "They’ve risked their lives to protect our district."

He turned to them slightly. "This is Zhao Yiming and Luo Yanyu. And today, they’ve brought us a proposal—a chance to free ourselves from the grip of Golden Earth."

The room fell into a buzz of hushed voices and exchanged glances. Everyone knew who Zhao Yiming and Luo Yanyu were. More importantly, they were wondering—what could they possibly offer that might save us now?

Most of them had already been pressured into signing predatory deals—agreements that forced them to sell their land for barely half its value. And those who resisted... were threatened with worse.

Still, there was a flicker of hope in the air, fragile but real.

Wang Zhenhua took a breath and smiled as he delivered the news. "They’re offering to buy all of our land and shops at fair market prices."

"Then, they’ll lease the properties back to us with an annual interest rate of just 0.5%. Or—if you want to buy your shop back—you can do so within six months at just 1% interest."

His voice rose with conviction. "That’s far better than selling to those thugs for cheap, right?"

The room stirred again. Most of the tenants were middle-aged or older, and though some remained skeptical—afraid of being scammed—many couldn’t hide the cautious hope in their eyes.

It was already a charitable offer by any standard. But Zhao Yiming had made sure it didn’t feel like charity.

He didn’t want to strip these people of their pride. He didn’t want them to become dependent. He wanted to give them the chance to rebuild—with dignity.

Then Zhao Yiming stepped forward, his voice steady and firm.

"However," he said, eyes sweeping the room, "if you buy your shop back in full cash immediately, I won’t be able to protect you if Golden Earth finds out."

A few gasps echoed quietly.

"I’m here to help," he continued. "But I’m not here to hand out favors. This isn’t charity. So please—think carefully. This is a real chance to stand on your own again. Take it seriously."

Silence fell. Dozens of eyes watched him, then flicked to each other. Some tenants whispered anxiously, others lowered their heads in thought.

But in the quiet, something else stirred—a sense of resolve. Fragile, but slowly growing.

They had been bullied, cheated, and cornered. Maybe... this was their way out.

However, one of the tenants—an older man who had tearfully thanked Zhao Yiming just days ago—slowly raised his hand.

"Mr. Zhao," he asked, voice hesitant but hopeful, "does this mean... you’ll find a way to develop the shopping district too?"

"You know our income’s been low ever since those gangsters started scaring off our customers. These days, people would rather shop somewhere else."

Another tenant jumped in, nodding, "Yeah! Even if we agree to the lease, we won’t last long if no one’s walking in."

"But he’s young and energetic, just like our Zhenhua!" a plump woman chimed in cheerfully. "He must have all sorts of ideas in that young brain of his!"

They weren’t wrong. The district desperately needed more than protection. It needed revival. Promotions, renovations, rebranding—something bold to shake off its reputation and bring customers back.

And that... was Zhao Yiming’s biggest weakness.

He wasn’t creative. He had no idea what was trending these days, no clue what young people liked. Was it still milk tea cafes and claw machines? Or did they move on to VR hotpot or dancing trash cans?!

But just as panic settled in, a familiar DING echoed in his head, and the system screen appeared.

[New Quest Triggered!]

"A Way to Connect" – The tenants of Lianwu Street are asking you the question that will shape their future. What will you answer?

• "You don’t have to worry about customers! They’ll come back once Golden Earth gives up!"

• "Of course I will! The future of this shopping district is my responsibility now as its rightful owner!"

---

Zhao Yiming sucked in the deepest breath of his life.

He wasn’t a visionary. He barely knew how Duyin worked. But he knew one thing—he couldn’t dump all the responsibility back on them. Not when they trusted him. Not after everything.

So, he stepped forward and declared as confidently as he could:

"Of course, I’ll help all of you develop this district! The future of Lianwu Street is in my hands too—and I will bring the crowds back. No matter what it takes!"

The room exhaled in unison. Some tenants clapped. Others smiled with tears in their eyes. One even muttered a shaky prayer of thanks under his breath.

And just like that, one by one, they agreed.

Wang Zhenhua immediately started organizing the legal process with help from Madam Ruan’s connections. And to Zhao Yiming’s surprise, the paperwork moved faster than he expected.
