Chapter 541: Chapter 541 Indifferent and Composed_1
Tang Yucheng originally thought that after hearing his words, the other party would obediently go upstairs. How could he have foreseen such a turn of events? When that little rascal uttered such a sentence, it almost made him explode with anger. How could they not want to seize such a rare opportunity? Was she just here to bother him again?
Tang Ruichang was on the verge of crying out to heaven, but there was nothing he could do. If that girl wanted to stay here, he was powerless to stop her. Downstairs, Shen Do had already started cooking porridge.
It was his first time ever cooking porridge for a girl, a monumental moment he had never experienced before. If she wasn’t moved by his efforts, he truly didn’t know what to say. Looking at the lively shrimp jumping around, which he had personally gone out to buy, and the carefully selected ingredients, he couldn’t believe she wouldn’t be touched. Feeling proud, he reflected on his own strong practical skills. "Wenwen, how tasty the porridge must be," he thought, almost unable to restrain himself from having a few sips. But he held back because he had not cooked a lot and needed to take it up for her. Thinking of how little she had eaten at night, he couldn’t help but shake his head. She was getting increasingly irritable; considering how many times she’d lost her temper just this afternoon, he didn’t know what else to say to her.
While Tang Yucheng’s world was crumbling inside, Kang Yuu too was in a dilemma. To go up and give him another chance or not? If she went up, she would surely end up forgiving him. But if she didn’t, wouldn’t she miss this opportunity? Wasn’t this the first time the man wanted to apologize to her proactively, a chance for him to soften? Could she really let this go? Her mind was in turmoil: wanting to go up yet not wanting to, thinking back to what she had just told Tang Yuchang, feeling like she had spoken too soon. If she went up now, wouldn’t that be like slapping her own face? The more Kang Yue thought about it, the more conflicted she felt, biting her fingernail as she pondered what to do. Mr. Tang was on the verge of a breakdown, but he forced himself to lie down and resign himself to possible disruptions later.
After feigning difficulty in making a decision, she finally spoke, "Alright, for pity’s sake, I don’t want to waste his efforts. I also want to see how exactly he’s going to apologize. I’ll reluctantly go up and see what he wants to do."
After saying this, Kang Yue quickly waved her hand and scuttled away, fearing that if she delayed for even a second, Tang Yucheng would make fun of her. But how could Mr. Tang possibly tease her? Her leaving would prevent disturbances for him, and he felt incredibly relieved, saying, "Then you better get to sleep quickly. Don’t wait up. If you go after he’s already upstairs, the atmosphere won’t be right anymore. Go up first and pretend to be weak and hurt, with a fragile heart lying there immobile."
After giving his little sister advice, he lay down on his own cozy bed, feeling particularly comfortable. "Not bad, not bad," he thought, grateful he had already spoken to Shen Dong earlier. Otherwise, who knows how long that guy would have stuck around? But then he remembered his plans of going out drinking tonight and felt incredibly disappointed. Once Kang Yue made up, she would forget all about the previous promises. Forget about going to a bar or anywhere else; it would likely be hard even to get her to go out with him as she’d be too busy, transforming into a workaholic. Kang Yue sometimes was so difficult to console when she was upset, but once she got over it and set to work, her efficiency was simply astounding. That was one thing Tang Yucheng admired the most about her. As far as he was concerned, there was nothing he could do. If he wanted to rest, he’d just rest, nothing could stop him.
After going upstairs, Kang Yue sighed in relief upon finding no one else there yet. She then hastily applied foundation to her lips to make them appear paler, looking exceptionally fragile. Staring at the beauty in the mirror, she blew herself a kiss, only then remembering that wasn’t right—she was supposed to be very fragile, as delicate as glass ready to shatter at the slightest touch. Putting on an injured expression, she thought, "There’s no way that Shen Dong could resist feeling pity when he sees this." Kang Yue, swaying slightly, returned to her bed and struck a few poses, none of which satisfied her. Meanwhile, Shang Dong had finished the porridge downstairs and served it into a bowl before heading up. Hesitating at her firmly shut door, he wondered if he should knock.
What if he woke her and she became even angrier? This was a tough decision for him. Upstairs, Tang Yuchang was blissfully unaware of the situation, musing about where to go for fun. Kang Yue, after several poses and not hearing anyone approach, grew increasingly nervous. As minutes ticked by, her anxiety ate away at her. She fretted over whether he would come at all; his delay suggested he might not, and she felt even more unhappy, thinking he might be deceiving her. She turned over with a deliberate thump, and the person at the door seemed to have heard and assumed she was still angry.
Shang Dong swallowed hard, thinking he might as well give up. If she was still upset in her room, he might get an earful. Yet, the longer he delayed, the worse it could get, so perhaps it was best just to handle it swiftly. If this issue could be resolved, he wouldn’t deal with thankless tasks anymore—he’d let her handle them. And so, having made up his mind, he thought, "Better to face it now than later; it all leads to the same end." Knocking on the door right away seemed the best move. Confident in his sincere apology, he couldn’t believe Kang Yue would be so heartless as not to forgive him.
