Chapter 250: Chapter 250 Please Pay First_1
"Miss Feng, rest assured, everything is ready; we’re just waiting for your signature," Hong Maoyang said cheerfully.
The two entered the restaurant and arrived at one of the private rooms.
It was the very same private room where Feng Lijuan and her friends had dined yesterday.
"Shouldn’t we be signing the contract in your office?" Feng Lijuan asked.
"Miss Feng Lijuan, I was thinking, since it’s already lunchtime, I’ve already instructed the kitchen to prepare the meal. After we sign the contract, we can have lunch, which is also convenient. Don’t you think?" Hong Maoyang said with a chuckle.
"That makes sense," Feng Lijuan nodded, with no further objections.
Hong Maoyang let out a sigh of relief and said, "Miss Feng, please take a seat, I’ll go grab the contract."
Feng Lijuan nodded, "Okay."
Hong Maoyang left and quickly returned.
"Miss Feng, here’s the contract I drafted. Take a look, and if you think there’s no problem, you can just sign it. I’ve already signed it," Hong Maoyang placed the contract in front of Feng Lijuan.
Feng Lijuan picked up the contract and examined it closely.
The contract clearly stated the interest rate, loan period, and repayment schedule of the principal with interest.
Feng Lijuan felt there were no issues and signed it directly.
"Great, Miss Feng, could you please transfer the money to my account? The account number is the one on the contract," Hong Maoyang said.
"Okay," Feng Lijuan nodded, logged into her mobile banking app, and transferred five hundred thousand.
Hong Maoyang received the payment notification and smiled, "The money’s arrived; in a year’s time, I will return it to you with principal and interest."
"Sure, I’ll be waiting for the money," Feng Lijuan said with a smile.
At that moment, the food was served.
The two began to eat and drink.
In the middle of the meal, Hong Maoyang excused himself to use the restroom and left the private room.
Once outside, he looked around, a smirk appeared at the corner of his mouth, and he hurriedly left the restaurant.
Crossing the road, he entered a coffee shop on the opposite corner.
In a small private room of this coffee shop, he met with four middle-aged women.
They were Feng Lijuan’s friends.
"Mr. Hong, how did it go? Did you get the money?"
"From the look on Mr. Hong’s face, he definitely got it, ah," another added.
"Fantastic, as we agreed, there are five of us; each person gets one hundred thousand," one of the women exclaimed excitedly.
The women chatted noisily, thrilled with the outcome.
As it turned out, the restaurant owner’s story of borrowing money for renovations at a high interest rate was purely a guise to scam money.
The women were jealous of Feng Lijuan flaunting her lifestyle every day.
Why should Feng Lijuan be the one carrying designer bags and wearing designer clothes while they had none?
Why should Feng Lijuan be able to drive luxury cars and wear watches worth millions while they had none?
Why should Feng Lijuan have a son-in-law who was a billionaire while they had none?
Thinking about this, the women felt resentful and came up with this scheme.
This Hong Maoyang was not actually the restaurant owner but a shill they had found.
The swindled money was to be split equally amongst them.
After all, as long as there was money to be made, Feng Lijuan was a fool in their eyes.
Indeed, Feng Lijuan very easily fell for the trap.
They had initially thought they could only cheat her out of three hundred thousand but to their surprise, Feng Lijuan willingly offered up five hundred thousand.
It would have been a disservice to themselves not to take it.
"I’ll transfer the money to you, one hundred thousand each. Take the money and go. When she discovers the scam, she will certainly come looking for you, so you’d better act well and not make any mistakes that will implicate me," Hong Maoyang quickly operated his phone, transferring one hundred thousand to each woman.
He had been in this line of work for a long time and had never slipped up; he was just afraid his collaborators would give the game away, so he made a point of cautioning them.
"Mr. Hong, don’t worry about it."
"Yes, indeed, acting is our specialty."
"One hundred thousand bucks, such easy money."
"This time we swindled five hundred thousand from Feng Lijuan; next time we should aim for a million."
"Exactly, she wears a watch worth one and a half million alone; not scamming her out of a million would be a disservice to her."
"Her son-in-law is a billionaire; maybe we could eventually scam tens of millions from her and become rich women ourselves."
A few women excitedly discussed this.
"I’m leaving first, you guys take your time," Hong Maoyang said, then he left.
...
Feng Lijuan was in a private dining room at the restaurant.
After having her fill, she saw no sign of Hong Maoyang returning.
She didn’t mind, assuming the owner must have been too busy to come back.
Checking the time, she left the private room and headed straight out.
"Hello, madam."
Just then, a middle-aged man in a suit stopped Feng Lijuan.
"Something the matter?" Feng Lijuan glanced at the middle-aged man.
"Madam, I am the manager of this restaurant. Have you finished your meal and are now leaving?" the manager asked with a smile.
"Yes, what about it?" Feng Lijuan frowned, somewhat baffled.
She wondered if she would be leaving if she hadn’t had enough to eat?
Would she be heading out if she didn’t intend to leave?
"Madam, then please settle the bill first," the manager said with a smile.
"What did you say?" Feng Lijuan was stunned; she almost thought there was something wrong with her ears.
She had dined with the owner of the restaurant, who also happened to be her debtor.
This guy was actually asking her to pay, what a joke!
"Madam, please pay the bill first," the manager kept the smile on his face.
"Are you clear on who I am? You’re asking me to pay?" Feng Lijuan scoffed, "Do you not understand that your boss invited me to dinner, how could you possibly ask me to pay?"
"Our boss invited you to dinner?" the manager was taken aback.
"Yes, let your boss handle the bill," Feng Lijuan threw out the words as she started to leave.
"Madam, please wait a second," the manager did not let Feng Lijuan go.
"Haven’t I made myself clear? Your boss invited me to dinner, and you’re still stopping me. Do you not want to keep your job? Believe it or not, with just one word to your boss, you’d be out on the street!" Feng Lijuan was starting to get angry.
"Madam, please wait. Our boss hasn’t even come in today; how could he have invited you to dinner?" the manager said, furrowing his brows as he continued to block Feng Lijuan.
"What? Not here? What are you joking about, he was at the entrance to greet me earlier, and he even took me to the private room. How could he not be here?" Feng Lijuan said, amused.
"Madam, I’ve been busy in the lobby all this time and indeed did not see our boss at all. However, I did see you entering a private room with a gentleman; that gentleman left the private room and the restaurant half an hour ago," the manager said somewhat oddly.
Hearing this, Feng Lijuan suddenly realized something and her eyes widened in shock, "What are you saying? Do you mean the person who received me isn’t the owner of your restaurant?"
"Nope," the manager shook his head.
"Impossible!" Feng Lijuan screamed, her face turning pale.
If that man wasn’t the owner, then who was he? To whom had she given her money?
"What’s going on here?" At that moment, a middle-aged man walked in through the entrance.
Having heard Feng Lijuan’s shriek, he approached to inquire.
"Boss..." the manager quickly went to the boss’s side and briefly explained the situation.
