Chapter 137: Chapter 137 Arranging an Assistant_1
After breakfast, Shen Dong took Chen Yuyan and drove to her father’s house to pick him up.
Chen Yuanxiang handed Shen Dong a document, saying he would drive and telling him to read the papers.
Shen Dong and Chen Yuyan sat in the backseat, Shen Dong looking over the documents while Chen Yuyan played on her phone.
The document was about Shuidilao’s expansion into the other three major first-tier cities.
Shuidilao had rented forty stores in Jing City, twenty-nine in Guang City, and twenty-eight in Shen City.
That many stores and the rent alone would cost over fifty million a year, with an additional fifty-plus million needed for renovations.
Chen Yuanxiang was showing Shen Dong the financials for his review and signature.
Shen Dong completely trusted Chen Yuanxiang and signed off without hesitation.
There were still equipment and furniture costs to consider, which were also estimated to be over fifty million.
For now, the renovations weren’t finished, so this budget hadn’t been reported yet.
As for labor costs, they were even more expensive.
With so many stores, over three thousand employees needed to be recruited.
One employee’s annual expenses would be roughly fifty-nine thousand yuan.
With so many employees, the cost would be nearly two hundred million.
This meant that the first year’s investment would be close to 350 million yuan.
This would be only for the first year; the second year would mainly entail maintenance and labor costs.
Luckily, Shuidilao had plenty of funds and wasn’t afraid to spend money.
After signing, Shen Dong put away the file and asked, "Dad, how is the recruitment process going?"
As Chen Yuanxiang drove, he responded, "Our company offers the highest salary and benefits in the catering industry. After we posted the job listings, plenty of people sent in their resumes. We’re not worried about finding people. After the New Year, once we recruit everyone, I’ll arrange for training."
Shen Dong said, "With you in charge, I’m very relieved, Dad."
They then discussed the plans for Shuidilao to expand into second-tier cities once the operations in these three cities were stable.
Everything was proceeding in an orderly fashion.
Shuidilao was on its way to becoming a colossus in the catering world.
Seeing that their conversation was winding down, Chen Yuyan chirped in with a laugh, "Dad, I went to talk to the HR manager, Lin Shulei, the other day. She’s really nice, you know. Mrs. Lin speaks so gently and is very intellectual, not to mention good-looking. I’ve been chatting with her on WeChat quite a bit these last few days."
Chen Yuanxiang, hearing Chen Yuyan’s words, became a bit nervous and said, "Yuyan, you didn’t say anything inappropriate in front of her, did you? It would make it difficult for me at the company."
"Dad, why the rush? I didn’t say anything specific, just regular chat. She mentioned that she used to not want to get married but seems to have changed her attitude towards it now," Chen Yuyan giggled.
"You little rascal, why are you telling me this?" Chen Yuanxiang asked.
"Dad, you should know what I mean," Chen Yuyan laughed, "I even asked her what she thought about you."
"Yuyan, how could you ask her that? It’s going to make things awkward when I see her," Chen Yuanxiang’s face turned red with embarrassment.
"Dad, what’s there to be embarrassed about? Let me tell you, Mrs. Lin thinks very highly of you," Chen Yuyan grinned.
"How highly?" Shen Dong, his curiosity piqued, asked with a laugh.
"Mrs. Lin said that when Dad is working, he’s decisive and efficient, very manly, with a full CEO vibe, but off the clock, he’s very approachable and gets along well with the employees. A CEO like that is really rare," Chen Yuyan’s eyes crinkled into crescents.
Lin Shulei’s positive comments about their dad meant that he might have a big opportunity.
During the chat, she noticed, just like Shen Dong said, that Lin Shulei genuinely seemed to have an interest in her dad.
"Yuyan, I think Mrs. Lin may not be in the best position in HR," Shen Dong suddenly commented.
"Why wouldn’t it be good?" Chen Yuyan asked, curious.
Chen Yuanxiang perked up his ears to listen.
"Look, Mrs. Lin works in HR, which doesn’t have much overlap with Dad’s work, so they don’t get to interact much," Shen Dong pointed out.
"Now that you mention it, that does seem problematic. What should we do?" Chen Yuyan quickly caught Shen Dong’s drift and asked in stride.
"I think we can transfer Mrs. Lin to dad’s side to be his assistant, so they’ll have more opportunities to interact," Shen Dong said with a smile.
"Exactly, let’s do that. Dad, as the general manager, it’s very tiring work, and he should have an assistant," Chen Yuyan said, nodding her head in agreement with a smile.
"Good, it’s settled then. We’ll arrange it after the New Year," Shen Dong said with a laugh.
"Can you two not mess around?" Chen Yuanxiang was feeling overwhelmed.
These two youngsters’ back-and-forth was really becoming too much to handle.
"Dad, we’re not messing around."
"Shuidilao has been developing so fast, it’s already expanding to other first-tier cities."
"Once the stores in the three first-tier cities are open, we are preparing to expand to the second-tier cities."
"The workload of your role as the general manager is going to increase gradually."
"At this point, someone needs to share your workload; at least, the less important tasks can’t all be done by you personally anymore."
"You need an assistant, and I don’t want to see you working yourself to exhaustion for Shuidilao,"
"that wouldn’t be what Chen Yuyan and I would want to see."
Shen Dong made a lot of sense as he spoke, as if it really was the matter at hand.
And to tell the truth, he was speaking facts.
Now, Shuidilao is still in the early stages of development, and it was manageable for Chen Yuanxiang as the general manager without any assistant.
But with the rapid growth of Shuidilao, the workload is going to increase quickly, and without an assistant, Chen Yuanxiang might just work himself to the bone.
Someone must share Chen Yuanxiang’s workload; otherwise, he definitely won’t be able to cope, and problems are bound to arise.
So, having the Human Resources Manager, Lin Shulei, become Chen Yuanxiang’s assistant would be just right.
As for whether her skills match the position, that’s not an issue.
Lin Shulei’s ability to become the HR Manager means she not only has professional skills but also other capabilities.
I believe Lin Shulei will soon be able to adapt to her new role.
"Mm-hmm, Shen Dong is making a lot of sense. Dad, don’t turn it down," Chen Yuyan nodded repeatedly.
"You two..." Chen Yuanxiang opened his mouth to say something but found there was nothing to argue.
It seemed like his son-in-law was right about that.
Shuidilao has grown, and he indeed needs an assistant.
...
Wansheng Venture Capital.
General Manager’s Office.
Liu Chao and his father, Liu Jianping, were enjoying tea together.
Liu Chao was animatedly talking about how much money Huya Guild had made recently.
Just then, Liu Jianping’s phone rang.
Liu Chao stopped talking, and Liu Jianping answered the call.
Soon, Liu Jianping’s expression turned gloomy.
After hanging up the phone, his breathing became hurried, he struggled for air, clutching his chest in obvious discomfort.
"Dad, what’s wrong, are you okay?" Liu Chao was startled and hurried over to support his father.
"Quick, the angina pills," Liu Jianping said tremblingly.
Liu Chao immediately took out a bottle of angina pills from Liu Jianping’s pocket, dispensed two pills, placed them into Liu Jianping’s mouth, and poured him a cup of warm water to swallow them down.
It took two minutes before Liu Jianping began to recover.
