Chapter 86: [Bonus Chapter] coming home safe was an underrated miracle
"Am I not included in the plan?" Dominic’s frown deepened at the thought. He didn’t mind if Heaven took their son out on a date, even though she hadn’t asked him out. However, she already spent the day with Sebastian.
Wasn’t it more logical if the night was for him?
"Oh, that’s not what I was thinking." Heaven blinked, a little taken aback by his remarks. "I was just thinking you were tired and wanted to rest. So I didn’t want to bother you with something so selfish."
"It’s fine," he quickly returned, looking around the room. "I’ll call someone to bring another bed —"
"No, no. It’s okay!" Heaven cleared her throat, stopping him for a second. "I’ll just ask Miriam to change him if he ever wakes up. I mean, bringing another bed here might disturb his sleep."
"Are you sure?" Dominic arched a brow. "I don’t want to make you feel I’m forcing you."
"Haha. I don’t feel being forced for sure." Heaven smacked her lips, setting her eyes back to Sebastian. She brushed the stray hairs on Sebastian’s forehead with her fingertips. "I’ll just tuck him in and then wash up."
"Alright." Dominic stayed on his spot, watching her make sure their son was securely tucked in.
"Anyway, have you had dinner?" she asked as she looked at him.
The meeting he came from was a dinner meeting, but he purposely didn’t eat a lot, knowing he would eat with her. Dominic weighed which answer he would give her, thinking if the result would be good or not.
"No. Not yet," he answered after a moment. "But I’m not hungry."
"Not hungry, my ass. You should eat." Heaven chuckled, pushing herself up from the edge of the bed. "Let’s have dinner. I didn’t eat much, thinking you will eat dinner alone if I ate too much."
Dominic’s breath hitched for a second, staring at her beautiful and gentle smile. He thought they already ate because she mentioned having dinner in passing, but who would have thought? That she didn’t eat a lot because of him?
"Don’t starve yourself for me next time," he blurted out, moved by her thoughtfulness, but at the same time, guilt came along with it.
The guilt came from the fact he felt excited after hearing she didn’t eat a lot because she wanted to eat dinner with him.
"I’ll wash up first," he announced as he walked around the bed to leave. "Come down once you’ve finished tucking him in."
Dominic marched away without looking back, only to stop when a hand held his arm. Looking back, all he saw was Heaven’s smiling face.
"You’re forgetting something," she said before taking a step. Heaven stood on her toes and planted a kiss on his cheek, unannounced. "There. Thank you for coming home safely today."
When Heaven drew her head back, her lips stretched from ear to ear, seeing his dilated irises. He looked at her, shocked.
"Now off you go." She took a step back, feeling a little giddy. "I’ll follow you in a bit."
"Ah..." Dominic rocked his head in a daze. The lingering displeasure in his heart mysteriously disappeared with just one peck, dragging his feet away from the bedroom.
As he left, Heaven couldn’t help but giggle. "He can be adorable sometimes," she mumbled, shaking her head as she went to Sebastian’s closet to prepare his pajama.
*********
Heaven stayed true to her words. After preparing Sebastian’s change of clothes, she went looking for Miriam to give her instructions. Even though Heaven didn’t have to because Miriam already knew what to do, she still did. After that, she went straight to the kitchen to set the table. However, the table was already prepared as the chef made a quick dinner for the madam and the master.
She didn’t have much of anything to do because the servants almost finished everything before she could offer help. Well, she was a little tired herself. So, she didn’t insist and simply joined Dominic for dinner.
"Did you have fun?" he asked in the middle of their meal after listening to how her day went by with Sebastian.
"Of course!" Heaven grinned happily. "I was scared that Basti will find it boring, but he ended up enjoying himself as well. So, that’s what’s more important."
Sebastian? Enjoying a playground? Dominic didn’t want to think she was lying, but he just couldn’t imagine it. Considering his experience in those places with his son, and Axel’s usual rants, about how Sebastian didn’t know how to have fun because of Dominic, it was hard to believe the child his wife was talking about was the same son they had.
"I’m glad you had a lot of fun." He rocked his head, throwing his inner thoughts at the back of his head.
"Let’s go together next time," she proposed excitedly. "When you have free time, the three of us can go together! I’m sure it’ll be a lot more fun!"
"Weekend."
"Huh?"
Dominic paused in cutting the steak and repeated the second their eyes met. "Weekends are my day off. We can go out then."
Surprise turned up on her face before it brightened up. That was quick.
"Then weekend it is!" she clapped. "I will make arrangements, then."
"But not this weekend, though."
"Huh? Why?" Heaven tilted her head to the side.
"Did you forget?" he cast her a side-eye. "We have a family dinner in the old residence on Saturday."
"A family... oh." Her entire body froze as she combed through Heaven’s memories, only to remember the Zhu family’s tradition during this time of the year.
"Don’t you want to go?" he asked, seeing that she forgot about it. "You don’t have to if you don’t want to."
"No, it’s... fine." Heaven forced a smile, though she was a bit nervous. "It slipped my mind, but yeah, a family dinner this weekend."
’No, it was not fine at all!’ unlike her pretentious words, Heaven was already mentally screaming. ’That gathering — ugh! I don’t think I’m mentally, emotionally, and physically ready to meet every member of the Zhu Family!’
