Chapter 778: Breathtaking
Chapter 778: Breathtaking
As promised, Dragon stayed in Hera’s room, watching her as she slipped into sleep. Her routine made it easy for her to doze off, leaving Dragon settled in the chair beside her bed, his gaze fixated on her back.
[Frank, I’ve been wondering... we’re married, yet... why don’t we share the same room?]
Hera’s inquiry echoed in his mind, a consequence, he thought, of her erased memories. "Such foolish questions," he mused.
Had she not lost her memories, such queries would never arise. It was evident to him. Despite Dragon’s belief that she had transformed into an ignorant beauty, he couldn’t trust her entirely enough to share a bed. He had already ceased giving her the pills that kept her at bay. He couldn’t afford more risks.
"Hera," Dragon called softly, observing her rhythmic breathing. "Can you hear me?"
Silence lingered after his question, her breathing steady, a sign she was sound asleep.
"If you can, listen carefully." Leaning back, he shifted his gaze to the window. "If you’re feigning ignorance about everything, make sure you uphold the charade indefinitely. Don’t reveal it to me, or it will deeply hurt... you and me."
Dragon couldn’t confidently ascertain which version of her he preferred, but he was certain this one had the potential to inflict the deepest wounds in his heart.
"You’re treading into new territory, Hera," he continued solemnly, returning his gaze to her. Her breathing remained undisturbed. "Or rather, you’re pushing boundaries and blurring lines. But then again, I’ve crossed a few. I suppose we’re at a deadlock."
"Hence, I will maintain this facade indefinitely, keeping you oblivious," he added. "Let’s commit to this and live in this pretense... forever."
As the echo of his voice faded into silence, Dragon remained seated, his eyes fixed on her, contemplating a future with the two of them, a serene life with their children.
’What a foolish idea,’ he criticized internally, yet a gentle smile tugged at his lips. ’No wonder you too had such naive dreams once. They were oddly comforting.’

Meanwhile, Leo lay flat on his back, his eyes fixated on the ceiling. He exhaled heavily through his mouth as he briefly shut his eyes. His mind wandered back to the day spent with Hera. Truthfully, it wasn’t eventful—they simply stayed in this very room, conversing.
"She..." His voice was barely audible as he reopened his eyes, directing his gaze back to the ceiling. "...isn’t as terrible as I thought."
A single day spent in her company was enough for Leo to realize that Hera wasn’t a malicious person. His career as an actor honed his ability to read people, and based on his instincts, Hera didn’t emanate the same energy as Deborah or Dragon.
"Hera Cruel," he murmured softly. "Oddly reminds me of... her."
A faint expression of dismay crossed his face at the admission. Leo found it disconcerting that Hera could evoke memories of someone else.
"I shouldn’t be lying around," he scolded himself, propping himself up with some effort on his elbows. "No visitors tonight, either. I’ll probably feel normal in a few days."
Leo slid off the bed, persuading himself that a bit of stretching might expedite his recovery. With no suspicious substances in his system, he felt the urge to regain his strength. This, he reckoned, was the first step; idleness was not an option.

[The next day]
"Knock, knock." Heaven tapped on the door, a smile gracing her lips as she reached for the handle. "Leo, I’m back..."
Slowly opening the door, she peered inside and halted mid-sentence, spotting Leo seated in the center of the room. Her eyes widened, and she hurriedly entered, gracefully dropping to her knees beside him.
"Leo, are you okay?! What happened?" she exclaimed, her eyes scanning him with evident concern. To her surprise, he responded with a gentle laugh.
"I’m fine, Hera," he reassured. "Just taking a breather here because I was a bit tired."
Her brows furrowed as she examined his radiant smile.
"Morning exercise," he explained, extending his palm with a grin. "I feel more energized now."
"Energized?" she repeated dryly, before slapping his shoulder. "You’re here because you can’t make it to the bed or chair, and you say you’re energized?!"
Leo raised his brows, rubbing his shoulder in mild surprise at her reaction.
"Oh, come on. I’ll help you up," she insisted, clicking her tongue and huffing. "Enough of this. Bed rest is the order. Even without meds, it’s not safe for you to exhaust yourself. Haven’t you listened to what the doctors said?"
"Uh..." Leo cleared his throat, taken aback by her scolding. He placed his hand on the floor to assist her, pushing himself up with determined effort. Leo clenched his teeth, ensuring he stood on his own without burdening her.
As they walked towards the bed, he stole a glance at her. When he sat down on the edge of the bed, he peeked at her, who stood in front of him.
"Please don’t do that again," she urged solemnly. "Bed rest is crucial. Even if you’re off medication, it’s not safe to overexert yourself. Do you really want to recover?"
"Uh..." Leo cleared his throat, a bit surprised by the stern tone. He rubbed his shoulders and smacked his lips. "Apologies. Just got carried away."
"Goodness." Hera sighed, her eyes dropping to the bedside table. She frowned at the sight of the food on the tray and then redirected her gaze back to him.
Observing where her eyes came from, Leo cleared his throat and panicked. "I’ll eat—silly me! It’s breakfast time, but I chose to do something very foolish! Surely, I am such a troublemaker."
Hera squinted at him, watching as he scolded himself while reaching for the tray. Alas, his morning exercise had left him drained. He winced, looking back at her with a complicated grin.
"I’m sorry, Ma’am. From now on, I’ll be a good boy," he pledged, sporting puppy eyes. "Could you please help me with my food?"
Hera stared at him with a deadpan expression, as if contemplating the sincerity behind his expression. After a second, she sighed and nodded.
"Fine, but promise me to take care of yourself and not do that again, hmm?"
"Yes." His smile broadened, watching her march to the bedside table to get his food. Staring at her side profile, his smile slightly faded as a sigh slipped past his lips.
’No,’he said inwardly. ’She’s pretty, but not...’
When Hera tucked a portion of her hair beside her ear as she picked up the tray, she looked back at him. Her lips curled up beautifully, making the corner of her eyes squint a little. Before he knew it, he was holding his breath as her eyes met his.
Breathtaking.
