Chapter 704: You have no idea, Belle.

Chapter 704: You have no idea, Belle.

[Lyon Group: Cafeteria]

"What... did you say?" Heaven’s mouth fell open, and her eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. What Belle told her left her flabbergasted, leaving her almost mute for the first three minutes.

Belle sighed deeply once again. "That is what’s been going on this morning, which explains everyone’s behavior. Is it true, though? That your husband is actually... CEO Zhu?"

At this point, Heaven wanted to say, "Which one?" but she already knew who Belle was talking about. Heaven didn’t answer; instead, she buried her face in her palms, developing a headache from yet another ridiculous rumor.

"Why can’t these rumors stop bugging me?" she grumbled, spreading her fingers to peek at Belle. "Why can’t people just mind their own business?"

"Because gossip is fun, especially when you’re not involved in it," Belle answered awkwardly, earning another loud grumble from Heaven. "Pepsi, is it true, though?"

"No, Belle. It’s not." Heaven dropped her hand from her face, revealing her exasperated expression. "He is not my husband. Oh my God. First, everyone thought my brother was my husband, and now this. I think the curse of being kind is starting to catch up with me."

"Really?" Belle’s brows rose as she leaned forward even more. "The rumors aren’t true?"

"Belle, come on. Do you really think we suit each other?"

"Well..." Belle hesitated for a second, studying Heaven to know if telling her the truth would be good for the two of them. "To be honest, you two don’t look bad. I mean, you’re both around the same age. The Second Young Master is currently the second hottest bachelor, next to Leo Wu. And..."

She paused as she assessed Heaven’s face. "You’re very pretty, Pepsi. You’re even prettier than a celebrity — prettier than Heaven Liu."

Heaven ran her tongue across her inner cheek, rendered speechless by the nonsense uttered by her closest office mate.

"But I’m glad it’s not true." Belle heaved a sigh of relief as she smiled. "I mean, I don’t think I can treat you the way I do if the rumors are true."

"What about if the rumors are true?"

"Huh?"

"What would change if the rumor is true? Are you saying we’re not friends anymore?"

"No, not like that." Belle scratched the back of her head as she pondered for the right words. "Of course, I want to be your friend. But at the same time, it makes me wonder if we’re truly friends if you’re that... high above in life."

"Ahh..."

"It’ll be a little awkward. The Zhu Family is like royalty. Even in the darkest times of their family, they never fell," she explained. "Anyone can get intimidated if someone like me suddenly becomes friends with a family member."

Heaven opened her mouth but then pressed her lips into a thin line. How she wanted to tell Belle that the Zhu Family wasn’t anything like that. But, well, from an outsider’s perspective, the Zhu Family was truly untouchable because of their wealth and connections. If only they knew what it was truly like behind the scenes.

"Belle, I promise you." Heaven let out a faint huff as she moved her hand across the table to hold Belle’s hand. "My husband is not the Second Young Master Zhu. People are ridiculous. Me? And him? How can everyone easily believe hearsay? Can anyone claim to be the young madam of the Zhu Family, and everyone in this building would believe them?"

"Well, someone saw you with the Second Young Master."

Heaven almost choked on her own breath. "What?"

"That’s what I heard. Someone saw the Second Young Master fetching you in the Art Department. At night."

"That person must be blind," Heaven cringed as she shook her head profusely. "Anyway, him and I? Never. I’d rather die single."

Just imagining a romantic relationship with Axel was enough to make Heaven feel nauseous. Never in her life had she ever imagined Axel in such a light. For Pete’s sake! Axel was like her eldest! How could she ever possibly think of such an illicit affair with him, let alone marry him?

Surely, this was getting out of hand.

It all started because of that rumor about her marrying a rich, old man. Everyone’s interest had been on her since then. If only she knew this would happen, she would have kept a very low profile in this company instead of befriending every living being she met.

"Oh, my goodness." Heaven pinched the bridge of her nose in distress. "This makes all the veins in my brain throb."

Belle watched Heaven lament quietly, blinking innocently. However, because Heaven kept mumbling, she didn’t find the right time to ask her a question.

*******

When it was time for Heaven and Belle to return to the art department, they left the cafeteria. People greeted Heaven on the way, while Belle maintained a meek smile. Heaven ignored everyone as she listlessly dragged her feet back to their office.

"Uhm... Pepsi?" Belle called as they entered the elevator. "Don’t you think it’s a good rumor?"

"Huh?" Heaven slowly turned her head to face Belle. "Please tell me I heard you wrong."

Belle bit her lips as she hesitatingly said, "I mean, look on the bright side. Everyone is giving you special treatment. Our colleagues don’t bother you too much and don’t rely on you anymore. For sure, the other departments won’t belittle the Art Department. And, most especially, Mister Yang won’t scold you anymore."

"Seriously? Belle?"

"If it’s me, I won’t clarify it." She shrugged. "You can keep coming to work and do nothing. You can even sleep the whole day and still get paid."

"Belle, I’m starting to question your true nature."

"You’re the only one who thinks this is more bad than good." Belle shrugged because, from her perspective, Heaven could benefit from this.

If this rumor got a little more out of hand and reached the CEO’s office, Heaven could simply use the excuse that she didn’t clarify this rumor because she was not obliged to. Anyone in her position would do the same. The rumor didn’t start from her, after all.

"You have no idea why I’m like this, Belle." Heaven let out a deep exhale as she shook her head. She then glanced up, recalling a recent memory she acquired.
