Chapter 381: Thanks to her
Chapter 381: Thanks to her
Heaven didn’t have much expectation from today’s agenda except to have fun with her husband. But in the end, the company she had quite a good time with was Ivy Wei. That woman’s name didn’t have a nice ring at first.
Who would have thought Ivy Wei was better in person? And the more Heaven got to know the person, she had to admit she liked her more and more. Their personalities and energy matched as if the two of them were meant to be friends.
Both confident and capable.
The original Heaven could never.
"You look... very happy."
Heaven snapped her eyes to the person beside her in the backseat, making her grin stretch even more. "More like I’m relieved."
"Relieved?" Dominic’s brows rose curiously. "That is a strange word to use in these circumstances."
"Hehe. Well, I didn’t expect I will get along with Ivy." Heaven scooted over to his side, hugging his muscular arm with his hand on the other side of her thigh. "I had a bad impression of her in the past, and I’m glad I got to know other sides of her today. She isn’t as dislikable as I thought."
"She isn’t?"
"Dom, don’t be like that to your friend."
"I’m not saying she is a bad person, but she can be very annoying." The corner of his mouth curled up into a reassuring smile. "Though I’m glad you two got along well."
"We wouldn’t get along if she likes you."
"Hmm?" Dominic tilted his head to the side, blinking countless times as he repeated his wife’s remarks in his mind. "That’s disgusting."
A wave of laughter broke out from Heaven at his response. "Don’t worry, darling. She feels the same about the idea. No offense."
"None taken." He shrugged indifferently. "Ivy and I had known each other since we were children. We’ve seen each other worst and best. She’s like a sister to me and Axel. Considering a romantic relationship with her, who is like a distant relative, sounds strange."
"I know, but, well, Ivy is someone very capable and successful." Heaven smacked her lips. "So, I wouldn’t be surprised if something like that turned out. But I’m glad things are the way they were. I’m hopeful."
She faced him again, smiling, with eyes twinkling. "I’m hoping for a good friendship with her. Though it scares me a bit because of a certain person, I still want to believe she might be different from Paula."
"She is," Dominic said with certainty, nodding ever so slowly. "I can’t put a period in my sentence, but I’m sure she’s not like that woman who only knows how to ruin her friend."
Her smile stretched even more, hugging his arm tighter and resting her head on his shoulder. Seeing how excited his wife was, Dominic couldn’t help but chuckle as he rested the side of his head against the top of her head.
"Did you have fun today?" he asked, recalling he hadn’t asked yet.
"Yep! I had fun more than I thought I would." Heaven moved her face up to him. "Thank you for taking me today, my love."
Looking back at her, Dominic smiled in satisfaction. "I’m glad you had fun, and you’re welcome."

Meanwhile...
When the group bid each other farewell, Heaven and Dominic left first. Axel would go with them if he came with them, but he didn’t. Thus, Axel had to drive home after dropping off Ivy Wei at her place first.
"Axel Zhu." Ivy turned to the driver’s seat, narrowing his eyes at the person in the driver’s seat. "I can’t believe how rotten of a person you are."
"What?" Axel gasped, casting his passenger a quick look. "What did I do? And how am I rotten if I’m driving you home safely instead of kicking you out of here?"
"How can you say all those snide comments about your sister-in-law in the past, huh? Heaven is so precious! I can’t believe I almost believed all those bad comments you told me about her!"
The horror on Axel’s face grew clearer, jaw falling as he recounted all those times he spoke badly about his sister-in-law. To be fair, it wasn’t like Axel had forgotten those bad days with Heaven in her first five years in the marriage. He used to hate her with great passion, but now he loved her so dearly that he didn’t think that mattered.
Having someone who remembered all those bad things he said about his sister-in-law in the past brought this sense of shame, though. After all, even if Heaven didn’t mind the past, the fact he spewed all those words about her remained.
"Tsk tsk tsk." Ivy let out a series of tongue clicks, shaking her head. "Good thing she stuck around despite that. Surely, the Zhu family amuses me in ways even I am surprised."
"Oy, that’s already in the past!" Axel grumbled, swallowing down the guilt growing in his heart. "Things happened, alright?! And that’s already in the past! My sis and I made up! She doesn’t even hold those things against me now!"
"Tsk. This is why I said she’s so precious. If I were her, there’s no way I will ever forgive you." Ivy scrunched her face slightly, looking at him with dismay. "You should take care of her."
"I’m already doing that!" His frown deepened, eyes on the road. "I know I wasn’t good to her back then, but I’m trying to be the best. Isn’t that the reason I was working myself to the bones?"
"How about your racing?" she asked, leaning back against the chair comfortably. "Your suspension should’ve ended."
A moment of silence fell on their shoulders after her question, making her arch her brow. Ivy stared at his side profile, biting her tongue as she realized she touched a sensitive topic. However, before she could apologize, Axel spoke.
"I plan on going back to racing once I’m done with my therapy or if that will even help," he confessed quietly, eyes fixed on the road. "My heart wants to, but a part of me still can’t go back to the track."
"You’re doing therapy?"
"Mhm. My sis’ advice." A subtle smile turned up on his face. "Thanks to her, I can still drive. If not, I don’t think I can ever get behind the wheel ever again."
