Chapter 304: Rock
Chapter 304: Rock
Right after Director Guan agreed with Heaven’s suggestion, the staff ushered Bear to the scene and helped him with it. Even though Bear had been watching the filming on the side, they still guided him and briefed him on what he needed to do.
"Just wait for the protective gear, sir," said a female staff politely. "My colleagues were making sure it was safe so we can avoid accidents."
"It’s fine." Bear nodded, keeping his head cocked up as he stared at the structure of the establishment.
The staff looked at Bear with slight reluctance. Not just her, but everyone’s attention was on the old man. The moment Director Guan gave out the order, it took everyone off guard. They knew Director Guan wanted to include this scene, but this was a desperate decision!
Even though Bear looked reliable, he seemed too old for this! Therefore, everyone in the production was having second thoughts. Some of them tried to talk to Director Guan, while others just accepted the director’s decision. Even so, they had no expectations. They were just worried, that’s all. Which explained the crowd flocking around the set in case the poor old man would fall or fail.
Meanwhile...
"You’re crazy." Director Guan sighed, staring at Bear from the director’s seat. "Who is that old man, by the way?"
Heaven, who was standing beside him, grinned. "He’s my father."
"What?!" Director Guan gasped. "Heaven Liu, do you hate your father? Why would you suggest he do this dangerous stunt?"
"Haha! It’s not like that, Director Guan." Heaven drew a deep breath along with her chuckles, setting her eyes back on him. "He isn’t my biological father, but he’s like a father to me. If he can’t do it, I wouldn’t even think of proposing the idea. However, he might look old, but he’s built differently."
"Built differently?" Director Guan furrowed his brows, looking at Heaven suspiciously. "Although you sound like you trust him so much, I’m a little doubtful."
"That’s normal." Her smile broadened, eyes in Bear’s direction. "Just watch, Director Guan. So long as the camera angles were right, he’ll do it in one take."
"Such confidence..." Director Guan let out a chuckle, amused by her confidence in her father-like figure. "I hope he doesn’t disappoint."
"I bet my life he wouldn’t."
Both Heaven and Director Guan kept their attention in Bear’s direction. Some staff were still briefing him, telling him where the cameras were and other stuff he needed to learn.
"I see..." Bear rocked his head in understanding, looking around to see where the cameras were placed. As he did so, it was inevitable to catch Heaven standing near the director’s seat.
Heaven waved at him, wearing a full smile with her even white teeth on full display. Seeing that she was completely fine now, as if she didn’t hide somewhere an hour ago, brought relief to his heart. He was also aware that Heaven just wanted to go home and finish her scenes. If she didn’t meddle, Director Guan and the writers had to take a while to decide on what to do with the scene.
"About the harness..."
"No need." Bear peeled his eyes from Heaven, setting them on the female staff that was briefing him. "I don’t think I needed any safety harness."
"But —"
"It’ll just get in the way," he argued in a calm manner, stopping her mid-sentence. "The reason that guy fell is because of the harness. If that didn’t break, he could’ve held onto something. But it messed up his balance. Good thing he was able to minimize the damages, only inflicting a broken arm."
"..." Was that a good thing?
"So, there’s no need for any safety harness," he repeated sternly. "Give me some space. I’ll go over it once and see if it’s okay."
"Ah?"
Bear didn’t waste his energy on the staff anymore, taking several steps back from the wall. He cocked his head back, glossing his eyes over the structure once again. As he did so, Bear slowly took off his blazer, folding it properly as if he was afraid it would crease if he just left it lying around.
While folding his blazer, Bear was unaware of the odd looks cast upon him. Even the staff who briefed him just now almost had her jaw fall. Their eyes were wide, gazing at his buffed body that was just full of muscles! Even though he was still wearing a white dress shirt underneath the blazer, they could see his honed body as his dress shirt was a bit fitted.
When Bear took off his dress shirt with his eyes still on the structure, Director Guan spat out his water. Standing on a tank top, Director Guan finally realized what Heaven meant when she said Bear was built differently. Not just Director Guan, but the majority of the crowd had their jaws dropped.
Seeing Bear stand in a thin dress shirt was enough to surprise them. But when he took it off and showed them what sort of body he had underneath that thick suit, it left everyone flabbergasted.
Who wouldn’t?
Just looking at Bear’s face, he looked like an old man with a towering stature and a wide physique. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he had a dad’s body.
But heck!
This man’s body was akin to someone high on steroids! He looked like a rock, with no room for extra fat. The veins in his arms, shoulders, and neck were protruding. There were evident scars on his arm and upper chest, and the big tattoo on his back peeked through his tank top.
Just what was this man doing all his life? Living in the gym!?
"Heh." Proud of everyone’s reaction, Heaven cast Director Guan with a mischievous look. "See, director? I told you."
"..." Director Guan’s mouth was wide open, moving his dilated eyes to Heaven. Before he could even say anything, he heard a loud gasp from the crowd. When he checked why everyone made such sounds, Director Guan gasped the moment his gaze fell on Bear.
Bear took several more steps back before sprinting toward the wall. Like some sort of superhero, Bear jumped on the wall, clinging to a small crook on it, and then crawled his way up to the roof without any safety harness. Bear didn’t waste a second, running on the roof, and then jumping to the balcony smoothly. He did what he was told without a moment of pause or without breaking a sweat, copying what the first stuntman did in one go.
THUD!
When Bear landed back on the ground with his knees slightly bent and smoke underneath his feet, he raised his head. He cocked his head to the side, looking at the crowd surrounding him. Aside from Heaven, who was clapping, everyone’s faces just looked pale, as if they saw a ghost.
"Did I do something wrong?" Bear wondered to himself, looking at the staff that briefed him on what to do. "I’m sorry. I’m not used to it, so I’ll gladly appreciate it if you tell me where I made a mistake."
"..."
Was he serious!?
Everyone gasped once again, hearing his remarks due to the pin-drop silence in the surrounding. Did he just say he wasn’t used to it?! He was even better than the professional stuntman that fell! Hadn’t he realized how he made it look so easy to climb this establishment?
"Director Guan, do you believe me now?"
Heaven’s voice brought Director Guan from his daze. His eyes twinkled almost immediately as he looked at Heaven.
"Heaven! You angel!" Director Guan giddily jumped from his seat, clasping Heaven’s hand in excitement. "You didn’t tell me you’re hiding such a hidden gem! Ah! I’m so excited!!"
Heaven chuckled in satisfaction, casting Bear a look and winking at him. The old man simply tilted his head to the side, observing Director Guan.
’I guess it was a pass to him.’ Bear shrugged indifferently, stretching his arms to warm his body up, knowing he was slow the first time. If only the crowd knew what he was thinking, their jaws would surely drop to the ground because, for them, he wasn’t slow at all!
