Chapter 287: Pulling out the joker card

Meanwhile...

SLAM!

The people inside an office froze, eyes on the man sitting behind the desk. Primo had the bottom of his fist on the surface of the desk after slamming it against it.

"What did you say?" Primo’s voice rumbled down his chest, gazing at the people standing across the desk. "You cannot shut it down?"

"Boss, the article blew up so fast that many media outlets already covered the issue."

"So?" Primo’s eyes glimmered menacingly. "You’re saying I’d just let my face out there? And let them dig about my company? My life? And my story?"

Primo’s righthand man lowered his head, closing his eyes as he drew a deep breath. After a second, all they heard was their boss’s menacing laughter. There was nothing they could do, even though they were all aware of how bad it was. Having Primo’s face in the public eye was even more problematic than having his face in the authority’s records.

All of their years of efforts to keep Primo’s record clean went down the drain, and all of that was because of Paula Shen.

"Boss..." Primo’s righthand man slowly raised his head. "This is what I kept telling you. You shouldn’t have played with Paula Shen. She’s a celebrity, so it’s not surprising paparazzi were following her around."

"You all know that and yet, you slacked," Primo thundered. "How in the world did this article get published under everyone’s noses?!"

Primo slammed his fist against the desk once again, springing up from the leathered swivel chair. His voice echoed across every corner of the office.

"Elmo, this is not my fault. I took the risk, knowing you guys won’t allow any paparazzi to release an article about us," he hissed, scanning the people inside the office. "What are you going to say, huh?"

Silence followed his question because their boss had a point. Primo dared to play around with Paula because all of them were on the lookout. Even before an article about Paula’s dating would be made, his men would either buy it or stop it by means or foul. This wasn’t the first time who caught Paula and Primo together, after all. However, this was the first time an article like this came out to the public without Primo’s tech team’s knowledge.

"Who is it?" after minutes of pure silence, Primo spoke again under his breath. "Hmm?"

Primo glossed his eyes over their faces, brows raised. But all of them kept their heads low, making him laugh in ridicule.

"You don’t know?" he asked in utter disbelief.

"Boss, we tried tracking the IP of the publisher, but something was protecting the person’s address," Elmo (Primo’s righthand) explained in a grim tone. "Our team is already working on it, but it will take some time."

"Hah..." Primo pushed himself away from the desk, running his hands through his hair in irritation. "Useless motherfuckers!"

Out of rage, Primo kicked the nearest stand from his vantage point. Some vases fell and shattered on the floor, but Primo was unfazed. He paced back and forth, hands on his hips.

"I’m giving you all a day to find that motherfucker." Primo panted for air as he tried to calm himself down without picking up his gun to add a dead body under his belt. He raised a finger, pointing it at everyone and tracing them.

"One day," he repeated under his breath, keeping his finger up. "Elmo, contact Jester. I don’t care how much he needs. I need the publisher’s head tonight."

"Copy, Boss." Elmo bowed without arguing with Primo.

Usually, he would oppose the idea of contacting the Jester, but regardless of his impression of the said person, he got to respect Joker’s mad skills. Their team couldn’t locate the person who uploaded the first article that exposed Primo’s identity, so they needed help.

"Go and don’t show your faces unless you have proper progress." Primo huffed, turning around while waving dismissively.

With that being said, everyone departed the office to do their job. All of them only got a day, and they already knew the clock was ticking. They knew Primo and his tyrannical nature, so they were aware Primo’s threats weren’t just empty words.

They were all dispensable to him.

"God damn it." Primo breathed out as he poured himself a glass of bourbon, arching a brow upon sensing another person’s presence in the office. Glancing over his shoulder, he slowly faced his righthand man.

"Why are you still here, Elmo?"

"About Miss Shen, what are we going to do with her, Boss?" asked Elmo without beating around the bush. "She had been calling the office because your phone was off. Her company is pressuring her and soon, she needed to make a statement to confirm this issue."

"Ahh..." Primo ran his tongue across his inner cheek, guiding the glass of bourbon to his lips. He didn’t answer immediately, drinking a mouthful while keeping his eyes on Elmo.

"Considering she had been a test subject to the new drugs that were going to launch in the market, I don’t think you should keep your contact with her," continued Elmo sternly. "You can get Miss Liu and Dominic Zhu without her, boss. She’s useless. A bad route."

"Paula Shen..." Primo hummed a long tune, marching to the floor-to-length window until he was standing before it. He swirled the drink in his hand, eyes on the bustling city.

"That useless bitch."

A glint flickered across his eyes that could make anyone have chills. He stretched his neck from one side to another, taking deep breaths until his heart returned to normal speed.

"Our priority is to know where is that motherfucker who released that article. Don’t worry about Paula." His eyes drooped dangerously as the corner of his lips curled up. "I just thought of something to make this in my favor."

Elmo studied his boss’s back, furrowing his brows. Knowing Primo, the latter always thought of things to gain some advantage, even in times of crisis. However, this time, he didn’t know what his boss had in mind.

Just how would Primo turn this in his favor when the worst had already happened? Nothing was worse than having his face out there in public, and having all these people from the media trying to gain information about him.

It was more like a public investigation at this point.

"Call Miss Shen and tell her I want to meet her," Primo ordered, twisting his body to face Elmo. "Also, give me Miss Liu’s number."

"Miss Liu?" Elmo furrowed his brows, only to see a crafty smile dominate Primo’s face.

"Yes, Heaven Liu. Dominic’s wife."
