Chapter 225: Beware of the danger signs
"Uhmm..." Paula darted her eyes between Heaven and Primo, wiping the corner of her mouth with the napkin. The other two glanced at her, curious at the reluctance in her eyes. "I’m sorry, but I have to take this important call."
Primo smiled amicably. "No problem, Miss Shen. Please take your time."
"Heaven."
"It’s okay, Paula." Heaven sported a short smile.
Paula bit her bottom lips as the reluctance in her eyes glowed. It was obvious she didn’t want to leave Heaven and Primo alone, afraid Heaven would say anything or simply seduce Primo. However, her manager was calling despite knowing Paula was on a date. It only meant there was something important for her manager to interrupt her.
"I’ll just be around the corner," she said, keeping her eyes on Heaven as if to tell the latter she was watching.
Heaven and Primo nodded in understanding, watching her walk away with her phone. Paula didn’t go far. She just stood in the corner, enough for the two to see her presence but not hear whatever discussion she would have.
Meanwhile, as Paula walked away, Primo slowly set his eyes back to Heaven. He maintained his amicable smile, watching Heaven look back at him.
"How do you like the food, Miss Liu?" asked Primo, striking up a conversation with her because the two of them stopped talking during the meal. His eyes fell on Heaven’s plate, which she barely touched. "You didn’t touch your food that much. I suppose you don’t like it?"
"I’m still on a diet, that’s all." Heaven kept her answer short and simple, lifting her leg to rest over the other. "Mr. Primo, I’m saying this because Paula is so precious to me. If you are simply leading her on, stop."
"What will you do if I don’t?" his lips stretched wider until his eyes squinted a bit. "Miss Liu, I know that you are already aware she isn’t being true to you. Don’t you think my setup with her is advantageous to you?"
Heaven didn’t reply immediately, keeping her lips closed as she studied the man. Surely, Primo was daunting. He could go around in circles, but he chose the direct approach and revealed his intentions to Heaven.
’For someone to be like this, then that only meant Paula Shen is merely a plaything. How sad.’ Another faint sigh slipped past Heaven’s nostrils, still keeping her gaze locked with Primo. ’But that is not my full concern. This man... what does he want from me?’
"Seeing you looking at me like that makes me wonder what’s in your mind, Miss Liu." Primo pointed out in a playful tone.
"All the things in my head..." Heaven blinked ever so tenderly. "... I swear you don’t want them to know."
"Test me." Primo leaned his arms against the table, wiggling his brows. "People say I’m crazy to consider all the danger signs thrilling."
Heaven lifted her chin as she leaned back, staring at him without giving any idea of what was going on in her head. She narrowed her eyes as her gaze fell on his curled lips, only to snap them back up to him.
"You are wasting your time, Mr. Primo." Her tone was calm, yet laced with a tinge of warning. "I don’t need to lift a finger to concoct my best friend’s downfall. She’ll do that on her own. Your help... is unnecessary."
"Well then, I take this as a blessing that you’re going to turn a blind eye to Miss Shen and me."
"Do whatever you want, Mr. Primo." Heaven sported a quick smile. "For as long as you stay away from my business, I’ll do the same."
Heaven picked up the handbag that was placed on the vacant seat beside her. "I think you are smart enough to understand that. Anyway, my ride has arrived. Thank you for the meal."
Heaven slowly stood from her seat, keeping her eye contact with him. She raised her chin slightly, gazing down at him. Primo was still smirking and his gleaming eyes revealed an apparent interest in Heaven, which was something she understood wouldn’t disappear easily.
After all, this man had been looking at her with the same eyes since the beginning.
"I hope this isn’t the last." Primo didn’t stand, but leaned back to admire the woman across from him.
"Hope it is the last time," Heaven smirked, picking up the napkin on the table. Using it, she reached for the bouquet and drew the poisonous flower out of it.
His brows rose at her action, watching her draw that specific flower with a napkin as if she knew what sort of flower it was. The smile lines on his face faded as Heaven carefully dipped the flower right into his wine while holding his gaze.
"Beware of the danger signs. If thrill is what you are looking for, there are countless extreme sports out there. Perhaps, jump from a cliff and leave the harness behind just to test your luck. That is thrilling," she dawdled while swirling the flower inside the wine. "Stay where you are, Mr. Primo."
Heaven slowly took out the flower from his wineglass, placing it on his plate to let it drip on his food. "Don’t go beyond the 60th floor."
Heaven straightened her back, dropping the napkin on the side of her plate. The corner of her mouth formed into a friendly smile, satisfied at his fading smile.
"Thanks for the dinner again. I won’t be able to bid Paula farewell, so please let her know I left in a hurry. May you have a good night, Mr. Primo." Heaven lowered her head and then turned around to leave the table.
As she walked away, she glanced in Paula’s direction. The latter was still talking on the phone, glancing at Heaven with slight surprise. Heaven only offered a short smile, but didn’t slow down as she left the establishment without even looking back.
Meanwhile, Primo gazed down at the flower on his plate before turning his head in Heaven’s direction.
’Heaven Liu...’ an amused glint flickered across his eyes. ’I thought you were just lucky, but it seemed it is Dominic Zhu who is lucky. What an interesting turn of events.’
