Chapter 166: Brother-in-law is cute

Axel stayed for a while, out of habit. In the past, he would stay in his brother’s place to look after Sebastian. It was how he figured out that Dominic and Heaven’s relationship wasn’t normal, and how he found out how neglectful she was to her family.

But staying with them today felt weird. Not only he felt like fourth wheeling and out of place, he felt like Dominic and Sebastian were using every bit of his existence to impress Heaven. It was almost like they were indirectly telling him to leave already, as if he was disturbing their family time.

Since when did they have family time?!

"Mommy, how come you know this?" Sebastian blinked, sitting in an angel seat while Heaven was helping him with his homework in the family room.

He and Heaven were sitting on the floor while his books and notes were on the coffee table. Meanwhile, Dominic was perching on the armchair with a serious face on his tablet. Axel occupied the long couch opposite them; he invited himself in, even though he felt very unwelcome.

"Mommy is an honor roll when I was still in school." Heaven grinned confidently. "So, if you need my help, just ask me, alright?"

"Tsk. Isn’t that just multiplication?" Axel clicked his tongue grumpily, watching Heaven and Sebastian look back at him. "That’s like... common knowledge. How can you shamelessly brag about being on an honor roll to a kindergarten?"

Heaven bit her tongue while Sebastian maintained a straight face.

"Is that so?" Sebastian blinked innocently. "If so, Uncle, what is 1432 multiplied by 6493?"

"Hey, what the hell are those numbers?" Axel gasped in disbelief. "Weren’t you just multiplying one-digit numbers?"

"I guess Uncle doesn’t know." Sebastian shrugged, facing his mother. "What about you, Mommy? What is 2 multiplied by 2?"

"Oy. Why is her question so easy?" Axel repositioned his seat, moving forward while waving his hand in front of him. "There’s a limit to how you can be biased."

Heaven chuckled, covering her lips with the back of her hand. "Basti, don’t be mean to your uncle. You’ll hurt his feelings."

"I’m not trying to hurt his feelings. I was trying to confirm his claims."

"Why don’t you go home?" Dominic, whom everyone thought was busy, chimed in. He put down the tablet on his lap, setting his pair of disinterested eyes on his brother. "Don’t you have any appointments today?"

"I cleared my schedule because you told me to look after Basti!" Axel was in disbelief at his brother and nephew. "How can you chase me out when it’s your fault I have nothing else to do today?"

"Axel is right." Heaven sported a gentle smile. "Axel, why don’t you stay for dinner? I’ll make some –"

"You can’t." Dominic cut her off mid-sentence firmly. "The doctors told you to rest more, so you should rest more."

"But –"

"No ifs and buts, Heaven." This time, Dominic’s expression turned firmer. "Once you are fully healed, you can cook as much as you want. But please, don’t be stubborn."

. After all, Dominic always listened to her requests, and this was the only time he was asking her for something.

"Dad is right, mommy." Sebastian sweetly flashed his mother a reassuring smile. "As much as I missed your cooking, I want Mommy to recover back to full health. If you do, we can go to amusement parks and funhouses again."

Heaven’s frown turned soft at her son’s sweet smile. She couldn’t help but cup his face, pouting at how cute her baby was.

"Sure. I’ll be better so we can do that~!"

Axel hissed as he felt like throwing up at this diabetes; he couldn’t take it anymore.

"Fine!" he snapped his tongue in irritation. "I’ll leave."

Heaven raised her head, still cupping her son’s face. "You should stay for dinner."

"No! I’m afraid that I wouldn’t make it till dinner if this goes on." Axel slapped his thigh as he sat up. "Bye."

Without making a huge fuss about it, Axel waved dismissively as he marched away. As he was leaving, Heaven couldn’t help but dart her attention between Dominic and Sebastian.

"Won’t you send him off?" she asked, seeing that the two didn’t show signs they care. "Dom?"

"He’s already old." Dominic didn’t even cast her a look as he maintained his focus on his tablet.

"Mommy, just let Uncle be. He’s a bit spoiled because he was the youngest," Sebastian added with a smile.

Heaven ran her tongue across her inner cheek before she smiled. "I’ll send him off."

"You don’t have to –"

"It’s okay." Heaven already got up before Dominic could stop her. "Dom, look after Basti for a moment. I’ll just send Axel off."

She didn’t wait for her husband to respond as she hurriedly followed Axel.

"Axel, wait!" she called, but Axel didn’t stop. ’Goodness. Is he deaf?’

When Axel reached the main door, he cocked his head back, only to see Heaven following him. As soon as she stopped a few steps from him, his frown looked even more bored.

"What?" he said. "What do you want?"

Heaven tried her best to ignore his arrogant tone. "I’m just sending you off. Your brother is busy with work while Basti had to focus on his study. I should at least send my brother off and say my thanks for looking after Basti."

"Tss. Oy, Heaven Liu." Axel hissed, walking to the same spot as he faced her squarely. He raised a finger, pointing at her. "I’m warning you. My brother and my nephew might’ve easily trusted you and are giving you the benefit of the doubt. However, I am different. I don’t believe you just changed overnight. It’ll be even more believable if you say you’re possessed!"

She was, though... technically.

"I’m being lenient because of my brother and nephew, but if I discover, you have other plans to hurt them. I’ll make you regret ever existing. I won’t fall for your little tricks." Axel erected two fingers, moving them to his eyes and then to Heaven. "I’m keeping a close watch."

Axel made it clear to her not just with his words, but also from the look in his eyes. Heaven pressed her lips into a thin line, keeping her silence until he turned around and left. Axel didn’t look back as he left, closing the door behind him.

Heaven stayed in the same spot, eyes on the shut door. Her expression was a little complex, but when the corner of her lips curled up, it proved Axel’s threats had no effect.

’How cute.’ She crossed her arms under her chest. ’I think I know how to make him my
