"Hey, Paula," Heaven called when Leo excused himself, watching Paula raise her brows slightly. "Didn’t you have a huge crush on Senior Wu back then?"

"Are you happy that you’re going to work on a project with him?" Heaven smiled amicably. "I’m really happy for you, my dearest best friend. I’m glad you’re fulfilling your dreams one by one."

Paula opened and closed her mouth for a moment. "Thanks," she muttered, clearing her throat as she sighed.

"Heaven, you’re not angry, are you?" Paula stretched her hand to hold Heaven’s hand.

"Why would I be angry?"

"You don’t have to put up a brave front, Heaven. I know you and Senior Wu used to have a thing — he is your first love, after all." Paula pressed her lips into a thin line, squeezing Heaven’s hand mildly. "Everything about us is all about work, that’s all."

Heaven bit her tongue, assessing the apologetic expression plastered on Paula’s face. "Do you see me as someone stupid, Paula?"

"What?"

"You know he is my first love and someone I will never forget. However, you asked him to come here without even telling me." The smile on Heaven faded as coldness replaced it. "Are you trying to hurt me?"

"Of course not!" Paula dramatically sighed, leaning closer to the table. "Heaven, don’t think like that. That’s not my intention at all!"

"Then what were you trying to do? Make me happy?" Heaven’s remarked sarcastically, knowing Paula would bite everything if Heaven would be a little dramatic. "Do I look happy right now? Watching my best friend and my first love act like lovers in front of me? Paula, you know the reason I had to let go of everything. So why are you purposely hurting me?"

"Heaven, dear." Paula’s expression softened, but inside, she was in jubilation. "I’m sorry if you got hurt in my attempt to make you happy. It’s not my intention — believe it or not. All I’m thinking is, since you’re finally going out and much better than you were in the last five years, I thought you’re ready to see Senior Wu."

Paula squeezed Heaven’s hand once again, making the latter feel how her hands trembled. "I’m really, really sorry. I must have lost my mind and didn’t think straight because the thought of making it up to you overwhelmed me. I didn’t consider you might get in trouble if Mister Zhu heard about this."

"Don’t worry." Paula forced a reassuring smile. "I’ll talk to Mister Zhu and clear up the misunderstanding. He won’t hurt you. I promise."

’This little witch...’ Heaven mentally clicked her tongue as she analyzed everything that came out of Paula’s lips. ’Whatever. Let’s give her what she wants.’

"No wonder he wanted to go here," murmured Dane to himself before catching another familiar face sitting around the same table as Heaven. "That woman... she’s still hanging out with the young madam."

The side of Dane’s lips curved down instantly, showing his dislike toward Paula Shen. Heaven might have seen Paula as her one and only friend, but Dane saw her as an opportunist. From Dane’s perspective, she thought that Paula didn’t have a good influence on his boss’s wife, because if she does, their marriage wouldn’t continuously crumble.

Moreover, if Paula was an actual friend, she wouldn’t try to seduce her friend’s husband. If Dominic was a little weak, he would fall for Paula’s subtle seduction.
