Chapter 1063: A night walk

Meanwhile...

"Go on. Keep walking." Hera drove at a snail’s pace, beaming her lights up at the people walking in front of her. "Keep walking or I’ll run you over."

Romnick took a deep breath, glancing over his shoulder. He snapped his tongue, dragging his feet. Her light was beaming at his back, making him look down at his shadow stretching in front of him. Splitting was a good idea to divide her attention. But it seemed that was what she wanted since Hera only came after Romnick.

She quickly got rid of the other escort car following Romnick. When she was done, she went after him.

After quite the chase, she still proved it was a frail attempt. One could already imagine what happened afterward. It was pathetic how he ended up being cornered and now getting humiliated by making him walk in this rural street while she rode her motorbike behind him.

"If you’re going to kill us, then do so!" Romnick shouted through his gritted teeth, glancing at his subordinate walking beside him. The latter looked back at him with the same level of bitterness in his eyes.

This was humiliating.

She should’ve just killed one of them or both of them. They would prefer that instead of witnessing each other go through such degrading humiliation.

"Oh, come on, ladies!" Hera complained. "Don’t be so depressed. Night walks are good for your health! Bullets are not!"

Romnick and the other man frowned deeply.

"Go," she urged. "Keep walking."

"Tss." Romnick dragged his feet forward, refraining from looking at the other person walking beside him.

"Just what do you want?" the other man asked under his breath, looking back at Hera, only to squint his eyes at the blinding light flashing in him. He raised his hand to shield his eyes from the light, stopping in his tracks.

"What I want is... a slice of sweet strawberry cake." Hera continued to move slowly, stopping when her tire touched the man’s leg. She put her foot down, looking at him dead in the eye. "Going to walk? Or do you want to lie down in the middle of the road so I can run over you a hundred times?"

The frown plastered on the man’s face deepened. "Tch." He hissed, resuming his steps until he caught up to Romnick.

"Keep trying, boys!" she announced, staying in place while the two kept walking. "You might just save a life if you do."

As the two dragged their feet with her behind them, they couldn’t help but click their tongue every once in a while. The thought of being armed to make this situation easier didn’t even cross them. They were armed before, but now, they were not.

"Does it hurt your pride that a woman could do this to you?" she asked out of plain curiosity. "Did you think because I am alone and a woman... you could take me down if you guys split?"

"We never thought of that," Romnick grumbled, rolling his eyes in irritation. "That’s probably the only good thing that came out of Dragon’s mouth."

"Oh!"

"He said the last time he heard people say those things to you were already lying peacefully at the bottom of the sea."

"That’s a lie." Hera rolled her eyes. "I didn’t put them in a bin full of concrete to sink him into the sea. I chopped him up and fed him to the pigs. His hair is the one I tossed into the sea. Pigs can’t eat it."

"As if we’re interested in the details."

"You didn’t know that? Dang. Dimitri didn’t do his research, huh? Fun fact! Those pigs are Dragon’s pets." Hera grinned. "I didn’t see them in his mansion. Probably because they went to someone’s stomach. I wonder whose stomach it was?"

The other man walking beside Romnick swallowed the lump in his throat. He felt his stomach churn, thinking about the times Dragon hosted dinners for them. He covered his mouth to stop himself from throwing up but to no avail. He stepped to the side and threw up.

"Haha." Hera laughed as the two stopped because one of them ended up vomiting.

Romnick, on the other hand, clenched his teeth and met her gaze with a glare. "You’re not serious."

"Oh, I hope I wasn’t." She did a noncommittal shrug. "But it was true. You said Dragon doesn’t like you. It’s most likely he vented his frustrations by feeding you a pig that ate human flesh. So, how does it taste?"

Disgust filled their mouths, stopping them from swallowing their saliva. Although they rarely dine with Dragon, the said man tried his best to be "nice" in the early stages of his partnership with Dimitri. He even hosted quite a few dinners with everyone in it. Looking back, Dragon also ate the same food served to them.

Did that mean that was his preference?

Or did he have different meat?

"Just what do you want?" Romnick spat out a mouthful of saliva to the side, frustrated at this mental torture she was putting them through. "Kill us if that is what you want! We’re unarmed and injured. You win. You’re not expecting us to beg on our knees just so you won’t kill us, are you?"

"No." Hera shook her head. "I only want one thing from you. Dimitri. Where is he?"

She jerked her chin ahead and added, "If I go straight there, will he be there?"

They knew it.

It was Dane that she wanted.

"No," Romnick answered quickly. "He’s not there."

"Then why were you headed this way during the chase?"

"We just planned to split, but we’re not headed to —"

BANG!

Hera swiftly took out the pistol strapped around her leg and shot Romnick’s leg without a second thought. The latter grunted as he curled on the ground, punching the ground with the bottom of his fist as a reaction.

"Wrong answer. It’s human instinct — a natural intuition, a subconscious decision — to go to the safest place when danger arises," she corrected, glancing at the other man. "You. Do you think if I go this way, it’ll lead me to your boss?"

The other man shuddered, opening and closing his mouth.

"Say the wrong word and a bullet will go straight to your throat," she warned, tipping her head knowingly. "So?"

The man glanced at Romnick, gulping the lump in his throat. He could almost hear his heart racing in his ears while his hands turned cold.

"Ye — yes," he stuttered. "Initially, we thought if we split, you might try to chase after the other guys. But when you didn’t and we know it’s too dangerous for us, we decided to lead you to our safe place, which is a danger zone for you."

Hera rocked her head in understanding, snapping her eyes at Romnick. "See? It’s not that hard."

"Very good, you." Hera glanced at the other man, raising her pistol to shoot him. "Now, off you go."

"What are you doing?" the man froze, his expression pale. "I told you the truth and I —" he stopped mid-sentence and raised his arms to cover his head when he thought she would shoot. But alas, when she pulled the trigger, it only produced a short snap.

"Haha." Hera chuckled in amazement. "Right. I hadn’t reloaded. Chill."

The man slowly peeled his arms from his head, looking at her in disbelief. Meanwhile, Romnick ground his teeth, looking at his colleague with dismay.

"Help him," she jerked her chin in Romnick’s direction, eyes on the other man. "If you wrapped his leg, he can walk or limp. We’re not done yet."

"But —" the man stopped as she widened her eyes and raised her brows. "Ye — yes."

With that being said, the man took out his belt and strapped it around Romnick’s leg. The latter shoved him away but to no avail. After slowing down the bleeding, the man grabbed Romnick’s arm and put it across his shoulders, lifting him so they could continue their death march.
