Chapter 1049: Unity
Chapter 1049: Unity
Minutes before the container was raised, the gunfire shooting at the container where Elliot was continued. When it paused, Elliot and his team fired back. They almost emptied their ammo before they stopped, waiting for the enemies to kick the door open. Doing the initiative was too risky. Who knew if the enemies were just waiting for them to get out of the container?
Elliot drew a deep breath, ignoring the faint gunfire outside. He focused on his situation but kept in mind that shots were fired elsewhere. This could mean many things. A glint flickered across his eyes, pistol over the barricade, breaths heavy and controlled. Not just him, but the people with him had their eyes fixed on the entrance. They could vaguely see movements outside through the little holes their enemies created.
BAM!
In no time, the door was forced and kicked open. Without wasting a second, Elliot and his team opened fire at the people coming in. They didn’t consider it could be an ally. After all, if the people outside were part of their team, they would know that kicking the door open without saying a word could cost them their lives.
This was a battlefield.
The sound of gunfire echoed loudly in the enclosed space, sparks flying from each end. More holes appeared on the metal walls, and some of Elliot’s people let out a grunt after being hit. But Elliot didn’t stop, nor did he bother. He focused on taking down everyone in sight, stopping when the last person by the entrance fell to the ground, lifeless.
"Ugh..."
"Are you alright?" Elliot quickly faced his comrade, eyes shaking as it fell on the man’s shoulder. The latter was clasping his shoulder, blood squeezing through the gaps of his fingers.
"Damn it," Elliot breathed out, peeking over the barricade to make sure the entrance was clear. "Stay here. I’m going out."
His eyes lit out as he looked at everyone. "You two. Stay here with him. I’ll divert their attention. Take him out of here when they started following me."
"But Boss —"
"Listen to what I say," Elliot cut one of his subordinates before they could argue. "Once you get into a safe place, see to it that everyone is in formation. We’re going to seize those containers and, if possible, the members of the Sun Organization."
His subordinates carried a look of disbelief and concern. They could almost understand Elliot. Normally, Elliot’s safety should be prioritized. He was the man in command. Without him, the special elite team formed by him would be in disarray. However, it was as clear as day that these people were after him. If they stayed, all of them would die. If Elliot diverts their enemies’ attention, their chances of survival would leap. In that case, someone would oversee their mission. Not to mention, Elliot could easily fight back without being held back by the injured.
This was what mattered to Elliot. This mission, not his life.
"If you understood that, then do as I say." Elliot nodded at them encouragingly. "I’m heading out."
Elliot took a deep breath as he turned his head. He peeked over the barricade, catching someone approaching it only for him to fall to the ground. He didn’t know who shot the man, but for sure, that was a minus of his enemies.
Without a word, Elliot mustered all the courage he had for a lifetime and jumped over the barricade. He reached out for the rifle on the floor, marching out to where the battle was raging. As soon as he stepped out, another person was sprinting from his side.
He shot him in cold blood.
He didn’t even blink.
As mentioned, this was a battlefield. If he wouldn’t put a bullet in their dome, they would.
"I’ll be on the field," he breathed out as he put his earpiece back on. "Give me a quick summary of the situation..."
Elliot trailed off as he heard a loud noise from somewhere else. Turning his head, deep lines appeared between his brows. His eyes fixated on the ship, or more specifically, on the container slowly going up. He watched the specialized cranes stretch until the container was hovering over the port.
"What?" he squinted his eyes mildly, watching the movements of the container.
Time slowed down for everyone who was staring at the container. For a moment, the bloody battlefield they had been in took a moment to pause. All of them could only stare at the container hovering over the port, moving slowly until it was circling over the area.
"Son of a..." Elliot blurted out under his breath, mouth gaping slightly.
"RUN!"
Everyone snapped back to their senses when a resounding yell in the area echoed in the air. They didn’t know who it was or where it came from, but for sure, that message was for everyone to hear. Elliot immediately turned his head inside the container, yelling;
"Get out of there!" Panic dominated his voice. "Get out!"
The people he left in the container looked at each other in confusion. But they still followed. Carrying the injured, they slowly made their way out of the container. This time, Elliot returned inside the container to help them. When they reached outside, they realized what caused the panic.
The container was spinning even faster now, and it appeared as though it would fall at any moment.
The question was, where would it fall?
With the force it carried, it could land anywhere. And anyone underneath it would face the risk of being crushed to death. Quite ironic that none of them seemed to be so afraid of getting hit by a bullet, but were running for their lives at the thought of getting crushed.
"Run!"
Elliot and his crew snapped back to their sense, ignoring the enemies who were fleeing the scene.
"Come on!" he yelled, urging his men to go to a safe distance.
Without looking back or anything else, Elliot and his men rushed as far away as they could. All they could think of was to leave the area. As fast as they could, and hoped it wouldn’t fly in their direction. As Elliot and his crew fled, they caught some of their enemies also running. But this time, they seemed to forget they should be killing each other.
There was unity for a moment. Everyone seemed to have agreed on one thing.
"Hey!" Elliot yelled at one of the members of the Sun Organization. He lifted his gun to take him down. When he pulled the trigger, he missed because the ground shook. The container landed several meters from where Elliot and his team were headed.
BAM!
