Chapter 1003: Love in sadness

"Oh, my little spawns of devils. Just how much more will you upset your dearest mother?"

Deborah’s pistol shook, gazing back at Hera. She still held the gun at her, but then dropped her hand. This could turn from bad to worse. Hence, Deborah mentally prepared herself to do what she must if Hera’s plan — whatever that was — didn’t work.

’Hera...’Deborah whispered to herself. ’Just what are you planning this time?’

Deborah didn’t have so much faith in Hera. Especially after finding out that Hera was simply playing like a fool all this time. She heard many things about Hera Cruel, but the Hera Cruel she met months back was different from what she imagined. Hence, she thought those rumors about Hera were simply exaggerations.

However, those who knew Hera couldn’t agree with Deborah.

[Mother.]

Some members of the Reapers, who were now working for Dragon, looked at Hera with wide eyes. Others even held their breaths, losing their stance at how that sentence was constructed alone. It reminded them of what Hera would call herself during the Reaper’s era.

Dragon, on the other hand, squinted his eyes. He assessed Hera and that deadly look in her eyes. Those familiar eyes who had always looked down on him, the eyes that never showed satisfaction. However, instead of shock, his face darkened.

"Is this another of your acts?" Dragon scoffed in ridicule. "I’m not falling for it."

Heaven Liu, whom he believed to be in this body, was an award-winning actress. As someone who fell for her acting like a fool, Dragon could vouch for how convincing this ’mere’ actress was. He wouldn’t fall for it again. Never.

"Another of my acts?" Hera laughed. "Did you hit your head or something? As far as I know, you fried my brains, not the other way around. And I suffered from amnesia as a result! What act are you talking about?"

"Stop."

"Frankie, did you take your medicine?" Hera cocked her head to the side, her pupils constricting while her irises dilated. "It seemed to me your problems in the past are catching up in the present. You’re being delusional."

"Shoot her," Dragon ordered without thinking twice, eyes wide, gaze fixed on her. "I said shoot her!"

"Go!" Hera roared back. "Shoot me!"

Her lips stretched as she laughed, glancing at the people present in the room. "If you dare."

Deborah felt her heart raced, looking around with shaky eyes. Dragon’s men were looking at each other, hesitation apparent in their eyes.

’These guys...’Deborah set her eyes back to Hera, taken aback. ’Is this really... is this what she meant when she said if I could trust her?’

Right now, Deborah was shocked and confused. This wasn’t the Hera she knew. The Hera she knew was almost like a coward. Deborah was more than disappointed when she heard Hera was just waiting in that mansion like a princess waiting to be saved by a knight in shining armor.

What was going on?

What changed?

BANG!

Deborah’s thoughts halted when a loud gunfire echoed in the room. When her shaky eyes searched where the fire came from, all she saw was one of Dragon’s men lying on the ground. The shooter was another person — a former reaper.

’Did he try to shoot Hera?’Deborah deduced, confirming it when the shooter cast Hera a determined look. ’That guy worked for Dragon and so, he listens to him. But the rest...’

The brief occurrence that ended with a person’s life split Dragon’s men in half. Some who were recruited later pointed their rifles at the colleague who shot their comrade down. The other half (who were also former members of the Reapers), however, pointed their guns at those who were on Dragon’s side.

’Impossible,’Deborah staggered back, almost amused and terrified at how the former members of the reapers switched sides the moment Hera talked. It was as though they understood something that those who never worked for Hera didn’t.

"Frankie, what made you think that after taking my people hostage and forcing them to work for you, they would keep listening to you once their master came home?" Glancing at the tense situation in the room, Hera scoffed. She snapped her eyes back to Dragon, flinging her legs out of the bed.

"Don’t tell me you believed your own stupid hype?" she added, tilting her head to the side. "Did you forget? How you always drag me to your side, hiding behind me, knowing my loyal little minions will unhesitatingly take a bullet for me? Oh, my little Frankie, you really know how and when to piss me off."

Hera paused as she smirked, dawdling her words that sent a shiver down everyone’s spine, even to Deborah. "I can reclaim my power, and I wouldn’t even call it a power struggle."

Dragon took a step back, sweating buckets of cold water as he held those pair of devious eyes not far away from him. He glanced at the people in the room. Some surrounded him to protect him, while the rest pointed it at them.

’How?’ Dragon wondered. ’I know what I heard. Hera is in Heaven’s body and Heaven is in this body. This is just an act! Heaven is just copying Hera!’

When Dragon glared back at Hera, his expression turned blank. "No," he whispered, shaking his head. This was not an act. No matter how he would deny it, he already knew the moment he locked eyes with hers that this was the true Hera. He was just in denial. But now, he couldn’t deny it anymore.

He loved her more than anything and hated her just as passionately.

He would never mistake her again.

"Drop your weapons," Dragon breathed out, dragging his foot forward.

"Stay where you are, Frank!" one of his "men" immediately shifted his rifle in Dragon’s direction. "Take another step and it’ll be a bloodbath!"

"It’s alright." Hera glanced at the other person, waving dismissively. "Shoot down those who want to fight. But not him."

She slowly raised her chin as Dragon was a few steps away from the bed. "After all, he doesn’t seem to have the will to fight anymore."

The second Hera’s remark flew out of her mouth, almost everyone furrowed their brows. Even Deborah couldn’t believe what she was seeing. There, down on his knees, was Dragon.

"Do you have anything to say, Frankie?" Hera lowered her head a little, brows raised. "Hmm?"

Dragon held his breath until his neck turned taut. His lips quivered as he forced his words out. "Can you... forgive me, Hera?"
