So this is it, huh?

This was the turning point.

The moment nestled right in the middle of the volume, where Evelyn would finally find the resolve to forge her own Novae Covenant.

It wasn’t just a club or a clique. It was a declaration.

A prestigious, high-functioning team built around shared magical affinities, intellectual synergy, and strategic vision.

These Covnants were more than just social alliances; they were battle-tested units, ready to take on Celestial Trials, academic duels, and inter-house competitions that shaped the power dynamics of the academy.

In simpler terms: it was time to build her hero squad.

The first semester had been little more than theory: dense lectures, magical law, and foundational doctrine.

But now, with the second semester underway, things were shifting. Practice was replacing pages. Action was replacing analysis. It was time for the application of theories.

At least this time, things were off to a better start.

Evelyn was no longer just drifting in the tide.

She was swimming against the current, slowly becoming someone of her own, even if it had cost her blood, sweat, and more than a few quiet breakdowns.

Standing at the front was Grandmaster Kaelium, the esteemed head of Irasios Academy.

Time had carved lines into his face and drained some of the strength from his posture, yet there was still a spark in his eyes. A kind of ageless fire that refused to die out.

"With the second semester upon us," he began, his voice calm but commanding, "most of you already know what time it is. The formation of your Novae Covenants begins today. Choose wisely, whether you lead or follow, for the team you align with will remain with you throughout the rest of your years here at Irasios."

As the ceremony ended, the students filed out of the gymnasium in chatter and murmurs, excitement for the new semester crackling in the air.

But beneath that surface, odd things had started happening again.

Every time one of these grim scenarios unfolded, straight from the pages of the original novel, where Evelyn was destined to be broken down, each one ended before it could begin.

It was almost unnerving how efficient it all became.

Verena barely had to lift a finger anymore.

By the time she would arrive at the bullying scene in the storage room, ready to unleash holy hell—

"E-Evelyn?!" Verena gasped, seeing the chaos.

The girl turned around with a serene little smile, drenched and standing over a pile of unconscious students. "Verena? Oh, don’t worry... I didn’t do anything. I just made them pass out."

In the original novel, those bullying arcs dragged on forever, pages upon pages of filler content, melodramatic confrontations, and drawn-out suffering that felt more like the author stalling than actual plot progression.

Raphael was supposed to show up dramatically during one of those scenes to "save" Evelyn, but at this rate?

The pacing had been completely derailed.

With how fast things were moving now, Verena could only make one educated guess:

"Seventy percent..." Verena murmured, staring blankly at the floating text.

She hadn’t even had a lunch break.

"By the way, I’ve decided something..." Evelyn said, her voice unusually steady. "I want to create my own Novae Covenant."

There it was. A flag raised. A shift in tone. Finally, plot progression.

"So? What is it you wish to say? Let me guess, you’re about to invite me?"

Evelyn looked her dead in the eye. "No. I’m saying I want to be free from you."

"...Free from me?"

"Yes," Evelyn nodded. "You told me I was destined for something great. You’ve helped me so much already. So now I want to prove I can stand on my own. That I can be strong and independent... without needing your help all the time."

What... what was happening? Was this character development? Was her baby bird leaving the nest?

She was speechless.

Not because Evelyn wanted to be free.

But because it actually sounded like a main character moment.

"But why so suddenly?"

"Because... you made me believe in myself," Evelyn said, hands clutched to her chest. "And right now, I want to try believing in me the way you believe in me..."

"That’s right. You punch assholes and assassinate playboys with flair!"

"However..." Evelyn took a deep breath. "If I do prove myself..."

Verena tilted her head. "If you do...?"

"...Will you..." Evelyn stepped closer. "Will you be my wife?!"

"WH—?!"Somewhere in the background, someone dropped their lunch tray.

This girl really said "self-growth" and "marriage proposal" in the same breath.

If Verena remembered correctly, her affection points with Evelyn weren’t even maxed out yet. They weren’t anywhere near it. Still sitting at a solid work in progress.

This girl was probably still a dangerously clingy menace with a moral compass that spun like a roulette wheel, especially now that she was rediscovering her powers.

But how could she give a perfect answer to such an absurd proposal?

So instead, she smirked and flicked Evelyn’s forehead. "Fine... until then, impress me."

Then, with a slight tilt of her head and that glint in her eye, she added, "Let’s see if you can actually make me fall in love helplessly for you."

"You don’t love me yet?"

"Love takes time. But... there might come a time when you won’t be the only one. Will that be alright with you?"

It was a genuine question, one that felt like the truth had to be said. She knew, deep down, that she’d have to love someone else besides Evelyn. It was just the way things were going to unfold.

"I always knew."

"What do you mean?"

"You make people fall for you so easily. I couldn’t accept it at first... but then again, I also stole what you loved. So I guess that makes us even," She offered a small, teasing smile. "But still, I’ll accept the fact that you’re a playgirl."

"I’M NOT A PLAYGIRL!"
