I, The Villainess, Will Seduce All The Heroines Instead -
Chapter 75: Tarot Reading
Chapter 75: Tarot Reading
The woman across from Verena was a sight to behold.
White wavy hair cascading like a waterfall of moonlight, ruby-like eyes that gleamed with a knowing glint, and pale skin so perfect it almost glowed under the light.
Her soft smile was almost too serene, and her soft eyes carried an enigmatic warmth.
Her beauty was undeniable, goth-like, with an otherworldly elegance.
She radiated that classic, almost dangerous allure... like a vampire protagonist in a late-night romance anime.
Hold on a moment...
The reason she felt so familiar was suddenly glaring at her like a neon sign.
"Pardon me, my lady," Verena began, her tone a little more formal than she intended. "Are you perhaps... Rosalinde Everthorne?"
The woman’s smile widened into something that could only be described as mysterious.
"Oh?" Rosalinde purred, a soft giggle escaping her lips. "It seems the Conduitor knows my name?"
Rosalinde Everthorne.
Beautiful. Mysterious. A stunning soothsayer with the kind of elegance that made Verena feel like she was in the presence of a legendary heroine.
Except... she wasn’t.
In the volume that revolved around Rosalinde, Verena had probably screamed more times than she cared to admit.
"MOTHERFUCKER!! AUTHOR, LEAVE HIM!"
"Who cares about his character development?!"
"THAT’S LITERALLY RAPE!"
"Woman, WHY would you forgive him?!"
This woman, Rosalinde, had one of the most extreme cases of Stockholm Syndrome Verena had ever witnessed.
The male lead was an absolute garbage fire wrapped in a pretty tragic backstory.
He had a nasty habit of getting physically aggressive and treating Rosalinde like a punching bag.
Thrown away by her own family, she was handed over to Sir Leopold, the notorious Viscount known for his terrible behavior.
At first, of course, she fought back.
But the problem? Sir Leopold was a special kind of awful.
He would force himself on her, and she accepted it because, well, she thought she had to.
She was just this useless pawn in her father’s eyes, after all.
Slapped, beaten, tossed around like a ragdoll... and, naturally, used as a sex object. Fun, right?
But wait!
Hold onto your hat.
Plot twist.
Apparently, Sir Leopold was just a tragic figure who had a terrible childhood and needed character development like he needed oxygen. Cue the redemption arc.
Rosalinde fell in love with him.
Why? Because apparently, his character development (after the abuse) made him... not completely irredeemable?
The fans were demanding it. They wanted that redemption arc, that "He’s Changed!" moment.
And, surprise, they got it.
Well, fuck that.
"Of course! How could I not know someone as extraordinary as you?"
"Surely, you jest," Rosalinde chuckled, her voice lilting with amusement. "I’m no one special."
"Oh, trust me, you definitely are. And you absolutely need someone who knows how to treat you right."
Rosalinde raised an eyebrow, a soft laugh escaping her lips. "You do have quite the... impression on people, as I’ve heard."
"And I heard that you are quite good at reading. Give me your best shot."
Rosalinde placed the deck in front of her and laid out the first card. She turned it over with a flourish.
"First card, the Fool. Ah, a promising start! Are you planning to just wing it?"
"I’m... not sure if that’s a compliment or a warning."
"Depends on how you take it," Rosalinde smirked. "But don’t worry, the Fool is often about taking risks, so maybe you will manage to scrape by with sheer luck."
She continued, flipping another.
"The Tower. Oh, this is fascinating. It indicates a sudden, unexpected change. Maybe something will fall apart unexpectedly during the exam?"
"Great, so now I’m doomed to fail and be publicly humiliated?"
"And lastly... The Star. It’s a symbol of hope, guidance, and a reminder that you’re not entirely lost in the dark. You’ll get through this, somehow."
"Wait... so there’s hope?"
Verena stood up, placing a shiny gold coin on the table, her fingers brushing the surface with an air of finality. "Guess this wasn’t a complete waste of time after all."
Rosalinde’s eyes briefly flickered with something that might have been recognition or maybe it was just intrigue.
Either way, Verena caught it.
It wasn’t the first time someone had reacted to her words like that, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last.
"Thank you for your patronage," Rosalinde said with a smile that hinted at something deeper.
As Verena walked out, she felt an odd sense of satisfaction.
It wasn’t the most conventional of sessions, but the cryptic vibe left behind would linger for a while.
She had no doubt that her next steps would be interesting.
Beatrice was waiting by the door, casually leaning against the wall.
Evelyn, however, had been pulled into some extra lessons, likely to catch up on everything she hadn’t absorbed in the first few weeks.
"Ready?" Beatrice asked with a smile.
"Let’s go," Verena replied, straightening her posture.
The first class of the day was on the Celestial Houses.
She felt a quiet confidence rise in her chest.
Given her stockpiled knowledge from her past life and the lessons she had already absorbed, this subject would be a breeze.
Time to ace this.
Verena plopped down into an empty chair, sliding next to Beatrice.
No assigned seating meant she could settle in right where the vibe felt best.
As she adjusted herself, she couldn’t help but notice the tension in the air. Exams had that effect.
The door creaked open, and in strutted Professor Sirius.
He cleared his throat dramatically.
"Do not cheat. If I catch you cheating, you will get an instant zero!" he boomed, his voice carrying a threat of doom.
Verena’s first instinct was to just use her powers to breeze through this. After all, who could stop her?
Professor Sirius, that’s who.
He was like a hawk when it came to magical cheating, and last time, she’d barely escaped detection.
No, she wasn’t going down that road again.
She glanced over at Beatrice, who looked entirely too smug about the whole thing.
Oh, she was definitely getting cooked today.
The papers started circulating, moving from the front of the room to the back like a wave of doom.
"I’m so cooked..."
